Microsoft have old classics that make sense on PS5

What would you like to see?

There are games Microsoft paid a lot of money to keep off playstation at the height of the great console war.

Games that made sense on playstation or at least do now since the series or Devs moved back to playstation already.

Games like:
Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive
Remedy's Quantum Break,
Cryteks Ryse Son of Rome
And Ubisofts Splinter Cell conviction.

I think it would be wise of MS to port these over. And ironically it's much easier to port a 360 game to PS5 then a PS3 game.

What else would you like to see?

Edit:
I should have said if they don't own the IP at least give the other publishers freedom to port them over.

Meh, only thing I liked about Sunset Overdrive was the box art

Keep the rest

I mean, personally, the only shit I would care about from their classic games are Fallout 3/NV remasters so I can play on my PS5, KI, Forza Horizon, and I'd consider $20-30 for a Gears collection. Most of the rest is straight up meh for me.

Update : I'm gonna go ahead and add Viva Pinata as a franchise that I'd like to see revitalized while we're at it.

Would any of those sell enough to justify the cost?
If MS want to launch an EA play type sub service on ps5 they need to build up an attractive collection. As it stands ps premium regularly gets old games ported. I'm sure there's a market especially with the slow rate of games development these days.

Having someone like Sumo Digital port Sunset Overdrive to PS5 probably makes sense for all involved, but I think Insomniac's roadmap is just too packed to really focus on that franchise.

Insomniac are usually trying to keep some staff busy with remasters instead of letting them go. Could make sense and with insomniacs name a collosus these days and ratchet on the back burner could be a good addition to PS Premium.

I mean they remastered Spider-Man. What else did they remaster?

I think they're probably too busy to be doing this themselves. Venom, Wolverine, Spider-Man 3. They're definitely busy.

I don’t really have any strong feelings for most of the old Xbox stuff, but I’d love Project Gotham Racing to get a remake/reboot. Including Metropolis Street Racer on Dreamcast, those 3 games were fantastic (with PGR 1 and 2).

Ryse: Son of Rome was a big part of why I bought an Xbone. I was already getting the PS4 but a game where you got to play as a Roman centurion swayed me into getting the Xbox as well. I don't think we're ever getting a remaster or sequel because MS and Crytek fighting over the IP and Crytek's new direction as a company. I would love to see a remaster/remake/rerelease or new entry though.

1. None of those are "old classics" lol
2. None of those came out at the "height of" the console war outside of maybe Conviction. By the time the Xbox One came out the war had already started to die out.

Do any Playstation single player games released on PC justify the cost?

It hasn't stopped Playstation from porting them yet, so I don't see why MS wouldn't be at least that obtuse.

On topic, there could be a few.

Maybe OP should use his efforts to look at dormant Sony IP’s and what Sony are doing to port them over?

Killzone for one. C-12 another.

The PS games on PC don't sell tons, but they do probably sell much more than any cost considering Sony even has a dedicated in-house port team. The question here is much different. We're not talking about big-name games, but small releases that sold little even at release and they're very old by now. I also doubt MS has a dedicated team for doing ports. Having to find an in-house studio that isn't already busy with a project or having to delay them from their next project is costly for little gain. So is trying to find an external studio to fill the role. It's not just a matter of wanting to do a port and pressing the corresponding button, the logistics involved can be daunting to be worth it for these sort of old games. Even something as recent as Hellblade 2 might not see a port for similar reasons.

I've tried to like SO twice now, and I still don't stick with it.
Ryse I tried once and plan to get back to. That has some interesting gameplay.
Never gave QB a chance, but I meant to eventually.

Rare replay should be ported to PS5 as well as Switch, though with the latter version I'm guessing they'd have to leave out Goldeneye so it doesn't clash with the NSO app.

Just gimme Panzer Dragoon Orta so I can throw my Series S out the window already. Tried Gears 5 on PC and felt transported to 2008 in a bad way.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I know it's a Sega game, but it was/is an Xbox exclusive. Panzer Dragoon Orta..

Sony could maximize Microsoft’s classic potential, to me even if let’s say Microsoft classics are on ps plus, there’s collectors to have those games in physical.

Conviction+Blacklist remaster could work. Especially the last is supposed to be fairly good.

Ryse could work for its graphics, its held back by X1. But I didn't find it particularly engaging.

Killer Instinct would be the best choice here, its probably the best 3D 2D fighter of the past generation and while its enhanced its still locked to Xbox/PC. KI simply did everything right, esp. after all the updates. The game has meaty SP, good netcode, lots of characters, good training mode. Its an excellent game really.

Those games bombed.

They were great for console war lists. But they were bombs that did not make money or even lost the studio money. That is why no one will touch them with a 10 foot pole.

You can bet your ass that if execs thought there was money in these dead horses, they would already be out here on PS5 being beaten.

These games are average at best.

Port actual good games on PS5 and STEAM :

- Rare Retro Replay
- Lost Odyssey => even better, remake it and add enemies on the map instead of the egregious random battle rate occurence.
- Ninja Gaiden BLACK (and real NG2 360 version please, not that Sigma shit again)
- Tenchu Z (From Soft) => Still not retrocompatible ffs...
- Ninja Blade (From Soft) => ok I'll admit, it's not great but still better than your list, and it's locked on 360. Still not retrocompatible.
- Steel Batallion (Remake with the cockpit controller, I'd love to experience it)
- Call of Cthulhu (on Steam but could see a remaster like The Thing)

It these games are remastered, they will be released on all the moderns platforms anyway.

But I personally don't need any of them.

Quantum Break is definitely Remedy's little gem. Can you name any other game with 20-minute live action cut-scenes?

I also really liked the story and having fun with the powers (like in Control) and only the last boss fight was bad.

Give me Phantom Dust, Blinx, and I also would LOVE to have Quantum Break on the PS5. Don't know what would happen with the Lance Reddick portions or if they would just kill all the FMV (which would be a shame).

Project Gotham Racing would be awesome but doubt it ever happen due to licensing. Panzer Dragoon Orta was awesome as well when we talk about classics. Really Sport Challange, and many more that MS refuses to reboot.
