Monster Hunter Wilds Launches on Steam with Over 1.38 Million Concurrent Players and 'Mixed' Reviews (48% Positive)

The graphics and performance are absolutely dreadful, and not just technically either. The washed out tonemapping LUT filter (a la Starfield) is nasty AF, and the lighting is comically bad in many shots. The fake wannabe nanite geometry looks like a PS3 approximation of UE5 and many of the textures are straight out of N64.

I don't know, man. Looking at the Steam hardware charts and player numbers, I get the feeling a significant chunk of those complaining that the game won't launch are actually below the required specs.

Edit: Think of it this way: if you have a decent rig, you're likely to post more than just 'Game won’t launch, FU Capcom.' I highly doubt anyone using a PC they actually paid good money for, rather than the one their parents bought them six years ago, would not list their specs.

Steam profiles and reviews should show the specs of the machine the game was playing on... sometimes people write them in the reviews, but most don't. Even more hilarious is PC gamers disabling comments on their reviews.

Kinda happy for the series succes, kinda sad that it was at the cost of appealing to a more casual audience.

Wtf is this actually shit then? I got the super deluxe edition on cdkeys.
For what it's worth, the same happened with MH World when it launched on Steam so this is not a big shocker.

It has "rushed out before the FY ends" written all over it.

If a western AAA studio released a game in this state (like DD2 last year as well), they'd be torn to pieces.

It's reviewing at 11% with the Chinese, who clearly DGAF about Capcom's rep.

Why can't capcom ever get a game on pc working normally.? Dmc5 seems like it was the last one
Huh? Did I miss something or most of their games work well? The standouts are DD2, and Monster Hunter Wilds. As I recall, most RE games launched in an okay state. I think Village had some minor problems, but that’s it.

It could be I’m misremembering though.

Not sure how much I trust Chinese reviews. Those guys will review bomb a game for localization issues and inflated Wukong’s score. The game is technically subpar on PC, yet they were showering it with praise. Are they complaining about the technical state at least?

Worse than dogma 2 while looking even worse, capcom is on fire.

I thought the fucking up of DD2 was because they were focusing all their efforts on MH. Guess that wasn't the case and it's just incompetence.

"runs fine on my PC"
I was able to bruteforce the beta into running fine but the final game run much worse than the beta apparently.

The thing with pc gaming is that people have so many different configurations or software/hardware problems that a game can run in 100 different ways in 100 different pc.

Then why have so many people bought it? Supporting mediocrity again smh
Because it's monster hunter, the best game in a genre that has basically no competition.

And people with monster pc always try to bruteforce broken games, the beta was running fine on my end so i thought the final game was about to perform better.

I'm part of the problem, no excuses.

They built a lot of goodwill with MH World.

I turned down a lot of chances to play world cause I wanted to wait for this. Guess will just catch up with World at this point.

Yeah, go with world+ iceborne if you are in a rush to try the new shiny thing, i envy you, i would gladly ignore wilds if i could experiment world for the first time again.

You don't even have to fear for the graphic since wilds look like a very minor upgrade.

Just as bad or even worse than World was a launch, that is a high bar.

Tried to use reshade to at least attempt to fix the washed out visuals, but the crapcom anticheat wont even allow that. Hopefully modders fix this 70€ mess just like theyve fixed World.

This just shows that gaming market do not need consoles with their dystopian closed systems, forcing you to pay for multiplayer. I'd rather make a donation to the NSDAP in 1933 than pay Sony for playing online in fucking 2025

Followed that and its a nice improvement, still wasnt enough, ended up having to use rtx hdr filter on top.

Edit: Finally managed to get reshade running with SpecialK, also used it to switch to unofficial FSR FG since dlss FG caused issues for me, their anticheat is nuts, but finally:
youtube the evil is defeated GIF

Much better frame pacing now, i shouldnt have to go through such lenghts, the game is using FSR3.1, yet they wont let us freely switch between DLSS and FSR frame gen and upscaling separately which is supported by the tech.

Could this be Steam's biggest moneymaker on is first day-week?

I guess it'll do around 1,5M on sunday, far from Wukong, but i bet 1m CCU on MH Wilds means more sales/players daily than on Wukong, since this game was all about the chinese market, the highest daily CCU count during that country's peak hours was so much higher than it was any other time of the day.

While on MH's case, it's extremely popular in China, in Japan, in NA and Europe too. Also the game's price is higher ofc.

There will be gazillions of steam and pc users who bought MHW not just the gazillions of console users who bought this game. Capcom has to send a tsunami of updates and fixes asap especially for PC and Steam users.

The game had two beta tests, if their PC were underspecs, they would have known by now. You think they would just spend 70 bucks to review bomb this game? This is nonsense.

And the minimum specs listed is
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-10400 or Intel® Core™ i3-12100 or AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1660(VRAM 6GB) or AMD Radeon™ RX 5500 XT(VRAM 8GB)
Come on now.
yeah cause game was made with RE engine and it runs like adamsapple adamsapple 's gamefly with gtx 960 :p j/k
