They need new hardware, not because of the need for prettier games, but for performance purposes. The hardware in the Switch was already pretty underpowered back in 2017.
So what mobile chip do you propose they should have used instead? They need new hardware, not because of the need for prettier games, but for performance purposes. The hardware in the Switch was already pretty underpowered back in 2017.
Bloomberg is full of shit. It's not "fanboy dreams" either, they are deliberately attempting to smear the OLED's launch.I don't believe this one bit, to me it just sounds like fanboy dreams and nothing like what I expect from Nintendo.
But regardless of what I believe, all of you who are expecting DLSS support, do you actually think Nintendo would force every developer to add DLSS support to every game, or what? Since support needs to be added on a game to game basis.
Or to patch every previously released Switch game? Or just to a few select first-party games perhaps? I mean, DLSS is super neat and works great in some games but for Nintendo, of all companies, to make an effort and really invest in it?
To me it sounds incredibly far-fetched, or what am I missing?
Just want to hear your thoughts, since everyone seem so convinced this will be their thing.

Nintendo Developers Reportedly Working on 4K Games for Unannounced System

Prior to the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch OLED, Bloomberg reported that a new Switch model would be released with 4K capability, and a bigger, OLED screen. When the OLED version of the system was announced over the summer, many were surprised that the 4K aspect of that reporting did not pan out. However, a new report published by Bloomberg alleges that several developers affiliated with Nintendo were given dev kits to work on 4K Nintendo games before the OLED reveal. Bloomberg claims that Nintendo pivoted from this plan, possibly as a result of the global chip shortage that has led to struggles across the video game industry.
Bloomberg has apparently identified 11 developers of varying sizes using these dev kits to work on games for Nintendo, despite the fact that there is no compatible Nintendo console. In Bloomberg's reporting, the only developer identified was Zynga, Inc., which is the team currently working on Star Wars: Hunters. Some of these developers apparently expect to release their 4K Nintendo games "during or after the second half of next year." This could mean that another Switch model is currently in development, or the successor to the Nintendo Switch might be released towards the end of 2022, or in early 2023. The Nintendo Switch released in the first quarter of 2017, so that would mean a six-year lifespan for the console, if that were to be the case.
Bloomberg apparently reached out to Nintendo about these reports, but the company called them "inaccurate," without going into further detail. Nintendo has always been notoriously tight-lipped, and has often intimated that it is always working on new hardware. A 4K console from the company is basically an inevitability at this point, but whether or not that was ever the plan for the Switch OLED is impossible to say for certain.
The chip was ok ; they should have customized it more. I.E. 6gb ram with a 96 bit bus, all 4 cpu cores for games at a faster clockspeed. These 2 would have helped substantially. That would mean ram capacity on par wit ps4 (because it used 1gb for os as opposed to 3 for ps4), better graphics esp. in docked mode and less cpu headache for devs.So what mobile chip do you propose they should have used instead?
It will output 4k, doesn't mean all games will be native. Although I could easily see smash being 4k native or mario kart even. Though I would rather see better graphics than native 4k.I really really doubt 4K. That just seems to totally go against Nintendo's philosophy and not pursuing the most expensive graphics.
Higher res sure, but not all the way to 4K. I'd be shocked.

In order to use an external gpu you'd need a high bandwidth connection to the dock, like through thunderbolt. I don't think anything like that is possible on the current switch. The Nintendo Switch already gets a performance boost when you dock it. That means Nintendo understands how to make the two components (the console and the dock) work together. What they really need to do is get external GPU support, and then put a more powerful GPU in new dock that you could purchase separately. You don't need 4k on that tiny screen, so there's no reason for the 4k features to be baked into the console itself. Just let the additional horsepower be handled solely by the new dock. They could release a 4k Switch that would include the console plus the 4k dock for people that don't already own a Switch, and they could also have the 4k dock sold separately to milk more funds out of the people that own a Switch.

It's also nintendo. The longer the next Switch takes, the better the tech will be

Sure, but using 6gb ram and a wider bus wouldn't affect that. Also, I'm not sure what the logic was for neutering the cpu in docked mode. The gpu is far faster docked, why not cpu? They still had to balance for battery life which isn't the greatest in the first place.
They weren't talking about the OG Switch w/ an OLED screen that's releasing next week, but about the Pro model that at one point was planned for this year & got pushed back, of which the Switch OLED is sort of a replacement.Bloomberg claimed that OLED was going to be 4k before it released.
Obviously they're the ones who are full of shit.
Nintendo won't force developers to use it, it will be optional. Some third parties will use it and some won't. Likewise for past games, the big, evergreen first party games will be patched but the vast majority of titles will not be.I don't believe this one bit, to me it just sounds like fanboy dreams and nothing like what I expect from Nintendo.

Exactly, so the results would be a small impact, and there would be almost nothing "4k" about this console then. At least nothing close to what some people here are expecting from a DLSS enabled Switch.Nintendo won't force developers to use it, it will be optional. Some third parties will use it and some won't. Likewise for past games, the big, evergreen first party games will be patched but the vast majority of titles will not be.
Those are my expectations anyway.
Bloomberg haha have ye learnt nothing?
You're setting yourself up for disappointment again
I'd expect every first party game released after the model to use DLSS, and a large number of third party games too. May even be a couple of games that run on this model but not that other models.Exactly, so the results would be a small impact, and there would be almost nothing "4k" about this console then. I wouldn't count on it. Those Nintendo devs really like sharp, unprocessed pixels.I'd expect every first party game released after the model to use DLSS, and a large number of third party games too. May even be a couple of games that run on this model but not that other models.
Resolution isn't something I care about, but I think DLSS will be a great tool for Nintendo for their successor system that will help them get better third party support.
I mean they definitely have access to Nvidia chips with dlss.I wish people would quit with dlss. This is Nintendo, not some dream machine you thought up.
People were making up stuff about a switch pro in 2017. Your wishful thinking is not reality.

Well, at least this time Nintendo debunked it quickly. They aren't working on another hardware and they aren't sending devkits for a supposed 4K Switch:
Oh my god, it’s happeni —
Oh.
Very carefully worded.
I don't expect it to be called Nintendo Switch.
I think it's more likely to be the SCD/Pro dock concept.
I'll wait to see how or if Zynga denies it, before I get my hopes up.
What, me? Believe that? No!Don't tell me you almost fell for it after 2 years of Switch Pro rumours on "News" websites.
They weren't talking about the OG Switch w/ an OLED screen that's releasing next week, but about the Pro model that at one point was planned for this year & got pushed back, of which the Switch OLED is sort of a replacement.
I don't believe that's been their philosophy at all, really. It's, to me, been more of a "do what no one else is doing" philosophy. So, who knows...I really really doubt 4K. That just seems to totally go against Nintendo's philosophy and not pursuing the most expensive graphics.
Higher res sure, but not all the way to 4K. I'd be shocked.
So Bloomberg doesn't know what they're talking about, or intentionally misleading people.

Nintendo Plans Switch Model With Bigger Samsung OLED Display
Nintendo Co. plans to unveil a model of its Switch gaming console equipped with a bigger Samsung OLED display this year, hoping the larger touchscreen can prop up demand in time for the holidays, people familiar with the plan said.www.bloomberg.com
What Bloomberg Intelligence says
“The release of a more premium version of Nintendo’s Switch console with an OLED display and support for 4K graphics for the holiday 2021 selling season could drive the company’s sales above consensus for the fiscal year ending March 2022 and extend the life cycle of the Switch platform for many more years.”
So Bloomberg doesn't know what they're talking about, or intentionally misleading people.
Nintendo lying to their investors, even mentioning them directly in that quote?"Debunked" lol
They are lying.

I think both Switch Pro rumors and a major MS acquisition rumors for this month are the same: bullshit fan wish fake rumors with no facts or credible leakers backing them that only will cause dissapointment between their fans.1. Nintendo denied the new model
2. Microsoft major acquisition rumors few weeks ago
