Nintendo Shares Plummet following Switch 2 reveal.

Both of you are wrong. “When people sell stock the price goes down” is factually, mathematically, and logically incorrect.

Volume movements have nothing to do with price.

A stock can see the most movement it’s seen in a decade, and the price could be going up, not down.

You could at least read a HowStuffWorks page before coming here and schooling us, Jesus. It's not necessary to embarrass yourself that badly. Or maybe, read an article, or watch a movie with any stock trading. Anything.

No thanks. I don’t get my financial information and knowledge from a Reddit or Discord investing group.

Investors were waiting since it sat on the 9$ per share range this is nothing new. Sell the announcement and buy back the mass selloff of people that wanted to close their position. It'll jump up again when Nintendo unveils the direct then go back down till the console launch.

Oh noes! Nintendo is doomed, they gotta go 3rd party!

Just like the RTX thread about how Nvidia is doomed because no one will buy the new RTX cards. Only merging or selling to MS will save them.

These kind of thread reek of console wars.

People literally burned them for overcomplicating the gimmick and name from Wii to WiiU. Now being safe is a problem ? To a Console that sold nearly as much as the PS2 in 8 years? And is a marketing juggernaut ? Like come on I like a good trolling, but basing this off on a small reveal is dumb

It's definitely because the Switch 2 is just not exciting.

There's nothing obviously new. It's slightly bigger (not necessarily even a good thing), slightly more rounded, and... the trailer alludes to a mouse function.

It's so very safe.

Now, it may well be the more prudent move, and the stock market is very fickle, especially short term.

This happens almost every gen with Nintendo. Can’t blame the OP for the reports that are out there.
I'm genuinely surprised that people seem to think I'm attacking Nintendo or their product and not just sharing something I saw that I thought was interesting. People must feel threatened by everything now.

I gotta admit, I haven’t seen the hook yet.
If Switch plays the same games (cross-gen), and the graphics are only slightly updated due to handheld limitations, why not just spend that money on games instead of buying a new console?

It’s still early but they need to show a bigger reason to upgrade.

I agree with you. Completely reasonable take. Just don’t post it on a Nintendo Reddit. Or Reddit in general.

It was a whack reveal, and pushing the real reveal out to April is dumb as hell. Had they shown some games, and given some more info I think people would be more pleased. Unless this thing is launching holiday 2025 they are taking way too long to show it off.

People forget that while the reveal and release window for Switch was rather short, they had nearly a year of built up real hype for Breath of the Wild from E3. That drove excitement for the console. There is nothing like that here, we have no idea what is launching with the console besides probably Mario Kart.

Stocks fluctuate at any given moment, for reasons that make sense, and sometimes no sense.

In the end this doesn't really mean anything. Nintendo is more than fine.

Nuance is not our specialty all the time. It’s a story as old as time that Nintendo stock always moves based on announcements more than the other 2 majors since it is a less diversified company.

Not really news, as it spiked and went back. Shit like that happens all the time, just look at nvidia for the past few months.
Now if the stock dropped like ubisoft...

news its a knee jerk reaction to people having to now wait another 5-6 months for it. If you got money invested in their stock you may want to sell it or move it to something that might be generating increased % right now. I also see it as an opportunity to buy more. There is now way the switch 2 is going to be a failure.. Unless they price point it out of reach of casuals.

the war chest tho, they can coast a flop as long as its not bleeding money like the ps3

My point is Nintendo have no backups now, they used to mask N64, Gamcube, WiiU flops with their handheld devision which generally been very successful throughout. Now, a major blunder means there is no safty net and they will burn through their cash reserves fast.

Look, don’t read too much into this. Apple stock often goes down after revealing iPhone’s or other new products.

I wish Nintendo would have had a commercial like the Switch 1. Showing new games 1st and 3rd party being played, show Switch 1 games being played, and show some games using mouse or mouse and keyboard. Like Civ VII.

I believe the stock will go back up after investor meetings if the holiday numbers are good. If not, it will be after Switch 2 reveal in April.

If they are not taking losses on each console sold why would they burn through their reserves? genuinely asking
The Wii U era was close to that, Wii U was a flop and the 3DS was nowhere near the success the DS was

All of this is hypothetical btw, worse case scenario i dont think switch2 will do that bad and they still have the switch1 as safety net they can drop the price on that and continue selling like Sony did with the PS2

This we don't know, and dont forget that their chip supplier is Nvidia (scummiest and most aggressive vendor)

But yeah I agree with you on Switch 1 being sold and generating revenue.

That is true, but don't underestimate nintendo they are equally stingy when it comes to getting deals lol
I imagine their first priority when designing consoles since the wii and their entire handheld history was cost cutting and cost effective

Switch 2 leaked specs are not cutting edge by any metric and if they are truly using a Samsung 8nm chip it should be dirt cheap
