NSO Game Vouchers won't work for Switch 2 games, Nintendo discontinuing Gold Points March 25th

Which would mean adopting the Tears of the Kingdom price tag for every game they release.

I would say it's going to be $70 for all of their top games: Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong, Splatoon, etc. Variable pricing for lower tier titles like Warioware, Clubhouse Games, and Nintendo Switch Sports.

$70 has unfortunately been normalized and I don't see Nintendo being an outlier.

Wtf, I have over $15 in Gold coin points. Is this a "use it or lose it" situation? 🤔

Gold points expire after 12 months. I've accidentally lost a small amount before since I mostly buy physical.

Losing the Vouchers would be pretty bad. That's basically how I bought all my digital games since they were introduced back in 2019.

That + buying discounted eShop cards made me save quite a lot of money in the end. Purchasing Vouchers also gives you Gold Coins.

I hope they do something similar for Switch 2, even though I'm doubtful.

I wonder about Metroid. On one hand, they charged $40 for Metroid Prime remastered while charging $60 for DKC Returns ( Metroid never being a huge seller, they probably felt it wouldn't sell at $60). On the other hand, they charged $60 for Metroid Dread.

Yep, gotta get the bad news out of the way first before all the Switch 2 news in April. Smartest way to handle it. Obviously they’re not gonna let people stack up Game Vouchers and shave $40 off two Switch 2 games at launch. I’m sure something like it will come back eventually, probably $119.99 or something. But it’ll be a few years.

And I don’t remember exactly but Game Vouchers weren’t a thing til like 2019, right? They certainly weren’t a thing at launch.

Always seemed like it was a bad idea to buy digital on Switch. This proves it.

Huh? You could get gold points from physical games too if you claimed them, though I think you got more for buying digital.

Losing the vouchers and bonus gold points is going to making buying digital less appealing in the future, for sure, but I don't see how it would have been a mistake to take advantage of these deals when they existed.

I usually use my coins as soon as I get them so it's whatever for me. I might apply the 43 I currently have to that $8 Radian Silvergun so I can play it on the go.

Voucher system going away sucks. I had used all of mine. But man what a cool deal.

I have 300 gold points. And that is no big loss to me.

It was more the rumor that digital games won't work on Switch 2.

Nintendo has already confirmed digital backwards compatibility for the Switch 2 multiple times, both to investors and during the reveal trailer.

They've also said that existing Nintendo accounts will carry over to the new device. This was actually one of the first things they confirmed about the Switch 2.

They will bring back vouchers years later, more expensive and limited offerings. No way in hell they are going to let you use a voucher to get Mario Kart 9 when they will be making $70 on 75% of all Switches sold during the first couple years.
This. There were no Game Vouchers anywhere near Switch 1 launch. Honestly can’t remember the year they even started but it was way way after launch.

It's Furukawa's wet dream to have people buying vouchers 5 years into the console's life cycle and forgetting to redeem before expiration, or otherwise being forced to use it on an evergreen game that goes on sale regularly for $30 or $40

Yeah I always redeem mine for games launching in the same year. I don’t buy a voucher until I know the release date for the second game as well, and it’s in their system and redeemable. Which sometimes isn’t until a month or two from launch.
