Looks good but I'm getting a bit of concern when the director mentioned that they've been looking at AC Odyssey for inspiration. That game was the most copy and pasta game out of all copy and pasta games ever. After 30 some hours you've seen everything the game has to offer. Only problem is that the game is 150 hours long. Ubi bloat stretched to its absolute limit.

In theory, a galaxy is the place for that kind of design. I'd expect it to be even bigger honestly. People just need to stick to the main path.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Visually, the game does look pretty good... godawful main character aside. Ubi can't design a game to save their fucking lives, though, so I'm not expecting anything other than some musings about AAAA or some such, followed by people's crushing disappointment.

Wait and see to possibly do Ubisoft plus to play it.

I think for me the biggest “need” is for it to not run like shit. If it can do 60fps without looking like a blurry mess I’ll try it.

I'm keeping an eye on this. Massive are a great dev, and odyssey was the best modern AC.

Could go either way but the potential to be great is there, I hope they stick the landing.

well, not completely true:

& it's these guys (massive) who've made outlaws...

They're Swedes so I'm going to follow this game until release, but from what I've seen it looks painfully uninspired. Not because the main character is a woman, but because she seems boring. I felt the same about the main red headed guy in Jedi Fallen Order. That guy was a wet cloth.

I hope it isn't Star Wars for "modern audiences" but if stuff like The Acolyte is what Disney/Lucasfilm pushes for then there's a risk for it.

LOVE that Odyssey was part of the inspiration for the open world. Best AC game in terms of gameplay and exploration.

Well if there was anything to salvage from the BG&E 2 development the open space system would be an easy pick...that and the hover bikes 🫠

It looks okay and I may buy it if the reviews are good. I would have much rather preferred a gritty action game starring Darth Maul, but here we are. My one concern with this game is that its going to be very "safe" (i.e. predictable story, bloated and empty open world, cheap humor influenced by Disney, etc...).

You are 100% guaranteed to get above. Throw in storytelling for “modern audiences” as a free bonus.

it looks to be very family targeted to me (in the same way that the original trilogy was). whether they pull it off is another thing. but i really like massive, & am hoping for the best...

I am going to wait a year for patches and maybe buy the game for $20.

This is the way with every Ubibore game brother since they're half the price just a few months after release - 1 year later ? You'll definitely grab it for 20-30 Eurodollars during a sale 😉

PS : I've absolutely zero confidence in this game

I hate Ubisoft as much as anyone else here, but this is false lmao. Odyssey is also used as a tool for education when it comes to its locations/environments. That game is one of their best games ever made. The DLC locations are insane.

If that game is used as a tool for education when it comes to environments and locations then God help us all. Absolute trash.

Fuck this ad..

Anywat, I was positive about this game until I saw it being played. Fuckin janky outdated game design. My open galaxy dream? That's a lol.

They also made Avatar Frontiers of Pandora which turned out to be, IMO, a mediocre mess. Loot design and crafting was crap, enemy AI was braindead even on the highest damage levels, and the story was meh. Visually it looked fantastic and they get points for using all of the haptic feedback features of the DualSense. But gameplay wise it was the typical Ubisoft "go clear enemy encampments and gather half a dozen collectibles to earn skill points" copy/paste formula. Certainly not The Division level of quality.

Not to mention the game launched as a buggy mess and it took months of bug fixes to clean it up.

Its already hitting a lot of those notes for me.

  • Large open world
  • Traveling from land with the speeder bikes to space with the ships
  • smuggling outpost, like black market to sell your stolen goods
  • interesting narrative where you can betray factions

I can already see the loop here and it sounds really fun.

Open galaxy*

*with loading transitions between surface and space. Limited to a couple of planets

The loading part is not much different than Starfield, except they hide a loading screen with a "too cloudy" transition, etc. Old trick in the book.

nobody's perfect? didn't even bother playing the game (1 avatar movie was plenty, thanks), but it's as likely they were directed by ubi to fit the game into the far cry template. hopefully they have a bit more freedom with outlaws...

AC Odyssey had the best world building of all the AC. The game wasn't perfect but I've never had so much fun exploring ancient greece.
So a Star wars game with the same team I'm totally ok with it. Also I'm puzzled at the hate against the main character? She's not ugly at all maybe a bit conventional. The red head in SW survivor was so much more bland though.
Anyway I'm cautiously optimistic.

That's fair but since it's their latest outing, it's what I'm most likely to compare it to. The Division is almost a decade old at this point. I'd love for it to be more Division and less Avatar, but I'm concerned it'll likely be the latter.

Either way, I'm gonna do a one month Ubisoft+ sub at launch to give it a try. If it stinks, I can play other games. If it doesn't stink, I can finish it and still play other games.

Bought Starfield day 1, only issue I had with the loading was not hiding it with some video or something.

Buying this day 1 and don't really care lol

I just don't buy that going to space in real time was going to change anything for most on here tbh

Ubisoft in this case is conquered by Massive.

Massive knows how to make a great game. Day ~30 for sure.
