The Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially unveiled, but there is still a lot that remains a mystery about the console. One major detail that fans are curious to learn is the price, which could make or break the new hardware.

Various rumors and analysts have previously discussed the possibility of a $400 and $500 launch price. While Nintendo has yet to comment, the company’s president has assured fans that affordability will be a major focus with the new hardware.

As per President Shuntaro Furukawa, the Nintendo Switch 2 pricing will take various factors into account. The gaming giant will be careful not to ignore Japan’s increasing inflation, and it will also consider the evolving exchange rate.

Above all, Nintendo intends to retain its historic appeal of affordability which has been a common theme throughout the years. While the company’s president had nothing else to say, he certainly gave fans hope to cling to.

We must take into consideration the affordable prices our customers expect.

If this comment is anything to go by, the console is unlikely to be priced above $400. While this would still make it more expensive than the original Nintendo Switch, it would put the new console on par with the likes of Valve’s Steam Deck, which received a price cut after the OLED model launched.

Taking into account Japan's currency tanking, they'll have to be very considerate when pricing. Anything over $400 will scare off potential buyers, as they might think they're better off sticking with Switch Lite as the console is going to be supported by Nintendo for at least two years.

Sony should be watching carefully if they're interested in snatching more of Nintendo's hold of Japanese gamers' attention to their console. I could see them discussing a price cut by the time the Switch 2's price tag is announced.

I think they get away with a high launch price as long as they do gradual price cuts this time. It absolutely can't launch and sit at a price like five hundred bucks, of course not.

I think it's apparent, it will be between $400 and 450. Not much else makes sense. 500 is clearly too high, 350 is a Switch OLED. Maybe the deluxe sku will be 500.

For me the question is, will the SKUs be 400 and 450? Or 450 and 500?

I feel like the smart money has always been on either $399 or $449 and I don't think this statement gives us much additional insight on which it will be, though maybe it tips the balance a bit towards $399.

$399 would certainly be perceived as being more affordable than $449 by your average consumer, even if the actual difference isn't that great.

PS5 is selling great at $500 so it must be affordable. There’s a big difference than when the $599 PS3 dropped, people are using things like Klarna or AfterPay to break up the cost over several weeks with little to no interest.

Even if it’s more expensive than usual, you know you’re getting a steady flow of great games over the long term. The thing pays for itself over time.

You getting one?
Yep, just not at launch. Way too much backlog to work on...

But who knows, if the direct in April reveals some killer launch titles I guess I'll be biting the bait.

$299 to $349.

EXchange rate is still killer for them. Want to come in low. Ongoing and growing online service gives them some leeway to price hardware more aggressively. Very similar form factor should help keep manufacturing costs down?

Vs inflation. And that's the xfactor.

I mean, I don't care. All the money will be spent on this.

After pro controller, 3 games, accessories, ect, I'll be looking at 800 bucks with a smile on my face. Nintendo is something I don't skimp on(Unless I go broke before it comes out in which case I'll be sticking to XBCX on Swtich1 for a while.)

I can afford any price but I would prefer under £400. Annoyingly over Christmas I might have offered my OLED to a younger relative so there’s no trade in value there.

Couldn't agree more. FOMO for new Nintendo hardware is something I've never missed out on.

Still using my launch Pro controller. Thing still holds a charge for several days. What a beast.

$299 in 2017 is $384 in today's money.

Here is the thing. There is no way they sell Switch 2 for $399 and Oled Switch for $349, that math just does not work. So Switch either Switch 2 is $429 or they drop the price of the OLED Switch to 299 or lower.

There needs to be a significant price difference in the models and $100 sounds like the starting point but I think it should be closer to $150 but I doubt it this soon.

I am expecting this to be £349, but am not all that bothered what it costs. If we get another eight years out of the blighter it's going to be worth it at even £500.

I'm hoping that mercifully old Pro controllers still work. In which case I skate by on the Mario Kart bundle and 1 other game.

They aren't willing to cut the switch price when though it's much older hardware and I an suppose to believe Nintendo Will make a good decision with the price? $500 confirmed.

Well, they seem to be raising the price of Switch Online so multiply that by the number of units sold. My guess is $450 with the Oled later at $500.

If it's £350 then it's day one without a doubt. Any more than that then it absolutely needs to launch with a killer looking game.

That being said, my 7 year old daughter saw the reveal and calmly looked at me and said 'that looks so good, can you get one?', so being a reasonable dad I'll probably just buy one for the house (I probably won't get a look in!!) anyway.

Gotta factor in the exchange rate too. Compared to 2017, Nintendo receives ~35% more yen per dollar of sales today.

IN 2017...$299 gave them 33000 yen.

Assume 30% inflation for them and that they want ~43000 yen now.

With today's exchange rate that's $282.
