They had a lot of issues with stock stuff initially, but from what I heard most of it has been addressed. If you don't wanna risk it, you could always get the Hori Ex2. I think it costs around $60 - $70. Harder to mod in the long run though if you decide to do it cause you have to de-solder and grind down the Sanwa jlf cause its too long for the case.
the Hori Ex2 Is far worse, and far less reliable then the Madcatz SE.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the standard Madcatz stick, it does the job, and if you want something better later you can always upgrade the buttons + stick

The Hori EX2 seems to have a really, really small base too. Doesn't look big or heavy enough for lap play as comfortable as the Fightstick SE.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm just gonna go ahead and get the SE Madcatz one. I probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between it and a higher quality stick.

Also, I think it's the 360 version that's $80. I believe the PS3 version is $70.

I think they fixed all the issues, such as the washer problem and the buttons sticking and not responding.

I never had any probs with my ex2. Even after I passed it along to my friend, he's been using it without probs. But then again..my fightstick hasn't had any probs either and I got that the day it came out...even though I never touched the stock stuff. :lol

The main problem with it is that the stick has washer probs... not sure if the latest model resolved this issue. I also know that the buttons will die at one point so you do have to change them.

If you have ps3, you should check out hori fighting stick 3... it's not the best stick but it's a great beginner stick imo. I used to use that until I switched to a sanwa modded SE.

Then again, I was able to snatch one at $35 when GS was getting rid of theirs a while ago.

Woo, reached 300 ranked matches exactly. My most recent match was against a Nu named RAAAGGGEEE or something like that which I thought was funny, until I fought him because Nu can burn in hell. D:

Also, I had one of the most ridiculous fights earlier...I threw someone, walked forward, did 6C, 5D, then 236C which is the trap if you tech in midair you get sucked into his throw. He teched into it EVERY single time for both rounds then sent me a message calling me a cheater. :lol

Lol...I hate that trap. I think I fell into a few times when I played against you. Took me a little to realize what was happening :lol

Still a noob to the fight game lingo. Feel a bit dumb asking, but what is "teching"?

It's when you recover quickly, you're probably doing it all the time. For the move I was doing, if you tech in mid air(air recovery basically) it's a trap, if you don't recover then it won't do anything.

Jeff Gerstmann put up his BlazBlue review over at GiantBomb. Gave it a 3/5. His main complaint seems to be that it's just too much to understand, and he didn't like the way it looks. Gerstmann's fighting game views are kinda odd to me, he gave MKvDC a 5/5.

Gerstmann is spot on. Also, why does Chess have so many pieces? I'd give it a 5/5 if every piece was a queen.

Gg's Grifter. Sick Noel :D
Gg's to everyone else in the room too! My bad memory forgot who left before I did :lol

GGs! You and your Ragna buddies were really tough! I took some hard beatings. =)

Considering I avoid pretty much every fighter for being complex and found BB easy to pick up(on the standard controller no less), I really don't agree with him there, but to each his own.

It's interesting how a lot of his negatives are positives for me, like
This makes all of the characters feel pretty different, though it had the side effect of making me want to stick to one or two characters, rather than experiment with the entire roster. I'm sure Rachel's wind control is good for something, but I was left with zero desire to find out what.
I loved experimenting with all the different drives, and figuring out how Rachel's wind works was one of the first things I did. It's one of my favorite things about the game, and it seems like everyone being different promotes experimenting with other characters a whole lot more than everyone being similar.
I found a lot of the character designs to be uninteresting. Sure, they animate well, but other than Iron Tager attempting to use a teensy cell phone in his win pose, I didn't really find a lot of charm with the way it all looks.
Seemed like if there was one thing BlazBlue had, it was a lot of charm in the animation and characters. I'd say at first glance the characters look pretty anime-boring but they definitely grow on you with all the personality stuffed into the game.
The story mode wants you to play through a series of poorly written tales for each character.
Eh, I can see the plot being overly confusing and left unexplained but I thought the writing was pretty good and I definitely enjoyed playing through story mode.

Well, I just got my copy of the game in the mail today. I looked over the game manual and found some interesting errors in it...

I finally beat Score Attack using Ragna, I never want to play against Unlimited Ragna ever again. :lol

Your 360 manual looks a different from mine. Besides not having that error and your cover being a bit different (the Arksys logo, no ESRB rating), my controls page is two pages away from the modes page and the fonts aren't the same as yours. Not only that, but based on your controller page, you have at least 55 pages whereas my manual only has 51.

I was scanning the sentence for spelling errors and found none...

I've got 61 pages in total in the game manual. Also, the reason my version of the game is a little different is because I've got a Japanese copy.

This was honestly what turned me off to Blazblue as well at first ...and yeah, I got used to it and indeed the roster and overall "attitude" of it all grew on me.

Also as I've said before, it's pretty damn easy to get into ...especially if you modest experience with fighters in general.

I have to say, even though I'm a huge fan of Gerstmann, this has to be the worst review he's ever written. It's downright terrible. Nothing in the review explains exactly what's so wrong with the game that its worth a 3/5 stars. No real negatives are really mentioned in the review about the game itself, in fact there are mostly only positives mentioned about the game. The only thing he says is that there are other fighting games to choose from, so he just didn't feel like playing blazblue, which really isn't even a negative at all.

Bad review is bad.

I got the game today. Played a few rounds with my friend but he got off early because he was playing on pad cause his stick is broken. Game seems okay I guess. I like Guilty Gear X2 #Reload more at the moment. I went back to SF4 for the night. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Fighting game reviews are always really iffy- seems most of the time they don't really "get" it. Gerstmann in particular just has weird taste in fighters

MKvsDC getting a 5/5 is :lol though.

That's probably the lowest score BB has got so far though, huh

Oh snap, I just pulled off my first Astral finish online. The poor Hakumen player I was facing had already double jumped into the air and came down at same time the sword froze everything. Really close games too. :D

Kiunch's Noel is fucking amazing (i still prefer his rachel, though), my jin still sucks so much. I'm trying taokaka right now, she's really fun to play with.
Anyway ggs to everyone i played with yesterday night, hopefully we'll do it again

Kiunch likes to say "let's pick characters we dont know how to use"

So when I pick Noel, he picks Rachel... he can use her =(

Also, when I pick Tager, he picks Nu... TRAVESTY

FMF, get HDTV so we can BB and you can fap to my Rachel... And where did Q go? I need some more spanking by Bang. Ferrio should ditch his work to play BB

Just started playing ranked online. My record is now 3 wins - 17 losses

The most hilarious thing about that record is that I got all 3 wins in a row by some fluke and unlocked the "3 wins in a row" achievement! :lol
talk about not deserving it!

Would you guys prefer a "pool" tournament and then a bracket one with the 2 winners of each pool... or just a straight double elimination bracket?

I have to agree. I don't have anything against Gerstmann but this review was basically: I'm not really in the mood to play this game, so I didn't bother to figure it out or play it that much. 3/5
