Are you attempting it from a neutral state? If so, that might be the problem. Try buffering the motion during a backstep or a jump.hidepsyence said:

Good incentive to get better anyway. Have read the Carl dustloop guide like 10 times. Not really helping! Will def start putting more time into training and learning. What do you think helps you get better faster? Beatings online or training mode?

Fastest way to improve? Getting whipped online all the way. I can take the CPU to school on HELL with no problem (except unlimited Ragna, but he doesn't count), but I often run into trouble against other real people.
Part of that I can chalk up to LAG messing up my scrubby 6C->5C->JC->jB->jC->JC->jC->D->ICE CAR combo. I only managed to get it to go once or twice yesterday in player matches. Lag for ranked matches is almost nonexistent though for some reason...
Has anyone from AKSYS ever posted on what the deal is with getting locked out (stuck on "Connecting...") on PSN and then having to quit the game which resets my PS3? It just seems like something really blatant unless it's something on my end that's causing the problem.

Both. If you don't know all your combos and setups or have the execution to pull them off, you're not really much of a threat. Likewise, without playing against other characters and players and gaining that experience (landing a combo in a game is way different from landing it on a training dummy), you're a sitting duck. Also, playing other players will teach you about their character and if you don't know the matchup and the other player does, they're just going to run you over.

I keep thinking I'm good at this game 'cause I played Guilty Gear back in the day. I certainly improved a lot faster than everyone else as I understood the game mechanics a lot more.
Anyway, that self-image got shattered today as I played this equal level Rachel who butchered me over and over. I just can't seem to get an attack in. Even Arakune seems easy compared to this b... eh, broad.
So after I lost the second time, -horribly-, I just shut the console off and started thinking "Man, why do I even own games that make me this mad?" and started thinking of cashing in by selling it since it's rare now.
So what do I do? Just play Rachel's until I know her?

Man up dude, losing is an integral part of learning. By exploiting your weaknesses your opponent is doing you a favor of sorts by pointing out the flaws in your game. Don't get mad, try to understand what you are doing wrong and change it.

Rachel DEFINITELY needs time (note: A LOT of time) to get good with her. I whined so much when I first started with her (you can ask FMF, Tek, Ferrio, etc). She's definitely one of the harder characters to use, BUT, all your hard effort does pay off at the end. It's so satisfying to have non-stop pressure on the enemy... She has so many traps that makes her really dangerous, but it requires a lot of set ups (wind, pumpkin, frog, lightning rods) and doesn't have a lot of defensive options.
Are you guys all on PSN? I haven't met any other GAF Rachels other than Exodu5 but apparently there's a lot of you out there. I would love to get some matches with you guys.
You should look up MSY on YouTube. He has a sick Rachel and should give you an idea on how to use him... I'm nowhere close to his level.

But her attack/pressure strings are soooooo oooooo long. Feels more like a chore than something that's supposed to be fun.

JC = Large letters, so usually something special, ie. not an attack. In this case Jump Cancel.
jC = Small letter first, means the jumping version of that move.

IMO, Rachel has one of the most flexible combo strings... You can get really creative with her because of her wind.

ok I'm a real fighting game newbie. I've really just played DOA and I really never learned anything but the basics from that game. Besides a couple of matches in Marvel Vs Capcom BlazBlue is my first 2d fighter and I've never been good at combos or really know how to string them. So to my really newbie question.
How do I do a DD without the easy method. I can do the d-pad movements and then I'm supposed to press the drive button. Do I quickly press drive at the same time that I press the last dpad button or I'm just inputting a pattern? I'm playing with Noel btw.
