Ice Car isn't too hard to counter, especially if they're just spamming it... just instant block the 2nd hit and you should be able to counter easily (block right before you get hit and you should flash white)

Ice Car? More like Ice Crutch.

Just when I think I'm getting decent at another character, I go back to Jin and do 10x better.

Oh yeah I met a Litchi online, haven't played one since Kyori. Still no Carl, level 32 (or 31 I forget) and still going Carl-less!

Also a Rachel who didn't know how to use traps, a Rachel who did (Proto's Rachel helped me win that one!), and two Nu's that knew nothing of using sword attacks.

I'm level 38 now and have seen a decent amount of Carl. I actually think I've seen more of him than Bang, though the few Bang players I did fight usually kick my ass. :p

Tried score attack and actually made it to Ragna without dying once. Holy fucking shit, I had to use the 2nd controller trick on that son of a bitch for two hours until I finally beat him.

There ya go! Easily the best Jin I've come across. I could not, for the life of me, get out of his combos...he'd always start another one up before I hit the ground. :lol

It's Dreavus, actually. :lol

Really great games last night. I always seem to have a bit of trouble against Noel because her jab seems to beat anything I can throw out at close range. And I gotta work on incorporating those Fubuki's into my game (that diagonal slash move) to stop dash-ins.

What's with all the ice car hate? :lol It's the easiest thing to punish if you don't use your barrier. There were a few times last night where I'd accidentally "Musou Senshouzan" into a blocking opponent, and I'd have to desperately rapid cancel or eat a combo. It's pretty simple, you just have to be a bit wary I guess. In Jin mirrors I just block it, and proceed to combo the shit out of them on their way down.

Any tips on tagers 720 super grab?

Anything in particular about it?

You have to buffer it into something, a jump is the easiest but also the most obvious way. It's not too hard to do it from either sledge, but if the sledge connects then the grab will have the purple !! which, if the person is paying attention, they'll probably break. The most useful thing to me is that a magnetized opponent can get sucked in from about half screen into it(assuming they just stand there wondering what the hell is happening, lol), so it's good to atleast magnetize them beforehand so you don't leave yourself wide open if the grab doesn't connect, or if you're just a little short they may get pulled into it.

hope to see you guys online this weekend, we had some good matches this week. Got KoF tonight, was trying that out, that's why I wasn't on BB.

There's a tourney August 15th in my area...so Kiunch, Dreavus, Proto, I need you guys to keep destroying me to get me ready :D:lol

Im getting the hang of it, i can do the 720 grab fine, it"s the distortion version that im having trouble getting off when i want it. Im slowly learning the character though tager may be my chosen sub.

The distortion is the only 720, I'm guessing by the other grabs you mean the 360?

What's with all the ice car hate?
Speaking strictly as someone who plays online a lot (PSN is Fygu, I'm one of the... six Litchi players), I'd venture a guess and say that most of the ice car hate stems from how its effectiveness increases magnanomously as soon as things get the least bit laggy. Since it becomes tremendously hard to IB when there's input delay, your ability to punish ice car goes out the window rapidly (especially if you are being ice car'd on the tail end of a jump as even if you do manage to block the first hit, the overhead swing will still hit you most of the time). As Litchi at least, your only practical option becomes the very dangerous practice of preemptively punishing ice car with moves that are easily punished with a slightly delayed ice car (JC/JBC, Tsubame, maybe even a 2D). It is, however, very true that in a lagless environment ice car really isn't that great of a move.

I'm a Litchi player as well. :D

But yeah, the reason why people hate Jin's Ice Car is because it's so easy to connect with, and significantly harder to defend against. It just acts like a crutch for a lot of players because in order to counter it effectively (in a lagged environment), you're going to have to practice against it. It, combined with huge invincibility frames on counters, a lightning fast distortion, and very effective freezing tactics/mixups makes Jin a nightmare to fight online for beginners. And the person playing as Jin hardly breaks a sweat. I know because I'll usually play as Jin against a Jin player that beats me, and outcheap them. :lol

I do too, but I've noticed that if I face a Jin with a modicrum of skill, who doesn't abuse the moves, it's easier to take them down than careful players who spam three moves.

I get this with pretty much every fighter ever. My brain kinda just switches off against move spam and my playing tends to get really sloppy. Ah well!

Makes sense.

I dunno about "hardly breaking a sweat" though. Many of his bigger combos take a fair bit of dexterity to pull off (I shouldn't be saying this to a Lichi player, but still! :lol ). But I do agree, in a laggy environment, the ice car in particular can be pretty effective on it's own. But you can say that about many things in the game, which is where I think the hate for Nu comes from as well, being that it's tough to navigate the labyrinth of swords when your reaction times are cut down a notch.

I dunno, I'm clearly pretty biased. Maybe I'm feeling slighted by the fact that my character of choice is coming off as a "crutch" to everyone else. I like to think I've stepped up my Jin game rather nicely (was doing quite well in the GAF games the other night) and I hate to think that I may be coming off as 'just another easy-mode Jin player'.

Now I think I know how legitimate Ken players feel in SFIV.

I have some trouble with ice car spammers online while playing as Nu. It's hard to get her drive swords to connect with a Jin that's zipping around the screen because of the long delay between unconnected attacks. Her spinning ground sword goes right under ice carz. If a Jin is speeding towards you, her only reliable counter is her neutral C. The problem is, you really only get one poke in with it and that does shit for damage. So the only strategy I've come up with is to try and do extensive melee, which is difficult because her C attacks can all be easily countered.

It's certainly not impossible, but the amount of effort I have to do to counter it is nowhere near the effort the Jin player does to execute it.

Pick Ragna... you can punish icecar without even instantblocking. :D

That said, icecar spammers are often weak to rushdown I think. I haven't encountered one in a long time now though, now that I'm much better. Also, my lag is mostly good so I don't fear spam.

Oh yeah, first ragequit yesterday, how annoying. His card said Jin, I thought "Nice, Jin vs Ragna" but he picked Arakune. He won the 1st round well, but I did slowly adapt in round 2 and managed to win and then perfected him in round 3.
"Ragna wins" "Connection lost".

How about spikes. You know he will use icecar. This will make him do more air icecars. Wait, bait, do jumping C combos. Should work well.

Sorry guys big thread and I know its been asked before but how is the online play. Is it silky smooth like SSF2HD. I just bought the new King of fighters game but I haven't popped it open yet. I'm thinking I should have bought this instead. Good online play is a mandatory must.

The netcode is top notch. You'll see some lag before the match starts here and there, but when the match starts, it's smooth as butter!

This, as long as you are not in a room with spectators. Then it gets really laggy even during gameplay.

Yeah, these are just things I'm saying because I'm frustrated with him. :lol I just need more practice. There are obviously awesome legitimate Jin players out there, and Jin spammers can be countered with relative ease once you're used to it.

Like someone said earlier, despite me practicing significantly more with Litchi, I can consistently get more wins with Jin and have an easier time doing it. I guess it will just take a while for the old muscle memory to know how to react in those situations.

Is it me or is this game impossible to find? 2 weeks now I have yet to find a copy in any gamestop, best buy, etc. I found one copy the whole time and it was a 360 one, but I only have PS2/PS3 fighter pads.

One of the things that really gets me in this game is that some people just refuse to block. Like, after you do a combo that ends with ice car, if they tech, they're in perfect position to start a new combo, which can be blocked. I played this Nu player who never blocked, he kept trying to counter. All the would have to do is block the hits and be in perfect position to start his sword spamming. but instead, he gets hit by the same 4 hit combo over and over until he finally bursts. There's a whole high/low game that most characters have but I hardly ever get to practice that since there are all these players who won't block. :(

I think the first shipments were the limited edition which came with the dvd/blu-ray. I believe this week the stores will get just the game in.

I'm guess I'm lucky I never really fought a ice car slammer. I actually never really fight jins. I always get tagers and nus. I'm still having a hard time fighting nu with my bang. Tager matches are always fun

Always amusing to find not so great people sometimes. Just fought a level 35 Ragna that just couldn't do much against me, even perfected him in the second round :D

Also, sometimes I accidentally end my own (Noel's) DD at the start (she starts it, but even with no hit from the opponent, just stops), but I have no idea how...

how do people ragequit in middle of game? pull internet plug? whats the point of going through all that hassle. A better way to quit is just let the match end.

pretty sure it's not...i have 1.5x the number of matches played on my Japanese account with only 4-5 disconnects. Would expect an overseas connection to be less stable than a local/within-continent connection.

By "spikes" I assume you mean her neutral C? The one where she fires a volley of individual spears? I mentioned that. Doesn't do a heck of a lot of damage.

Trying to stop an air ice car in the air is also difficult. The ice car has the advantage over her air melee attacks, so I either have to time her drive swords or her "alterating space" (air 214D) perfectly, or I have to do her ground 214D attack to slap him as he's coming down off the ice car.

Let it be known that today, at level 34, I met a Carl in Ranked matches!

I think he kept trying to set me up for the ClapTrap, but I always made sure to never get between him and Nirvana.

I think I was cursed because the first Carl I ever fought was extremely aggressive and got me into the trap right away before I realized what happened, I've probably fought ~10 or so and nobody else ever tried it. Even though I'm on the lookout for when they try to get you into it, I still get nervous anytime I get hit in the air and see Nirvana do the clap attack, even if they aren't grabbing me into it.
