So this game is 70 dollars in canada... what I"m wondering from you devout followers in this thread- is it worth 70 dollars ? After having a runaround given to me by NCIX I finally have an arcade stick shipping to me from their competitor newegg that will apparently show up on tuesday and as much as I like SF4 I'd like to buy another fighter. I played KOF12 at a friends house and wasn't much of a fan but BlazBlue actually looks like quite a bit of fun... I"m just really hesitant to jump into it for 70 bucks...

So try and sway me gaf.

I buy fighters once in a blue moon, and I can say this game was worth every penny, especially if you can one or more of your friends hooked on the game, too.

For those that primarily use Bang how's that working out for you? I was BSing yesterday at a buddy's place and I put in some training time with him felt very natural and smooth. I think I'll learn him after Jin

I know this may be late...

He has amazing pressure strings that allow to keep pounding away at your opponent. One blocking mistake can easily cost you at least 33 percent health even though his combos are pretty short without repeat moves(think 6-10 hits). He also his good anti air, and even a bit of immobilization going on thanks to the bouncing shuriken, explosive shuriken, and web shuriken. Double air dashes, quick backflips, and good anti air attacks like that dropping palm, shuriken, his medium kick, and strong kick all guarantee a close range fight. I have a pretty fun time keeping my opponents grounded, and confused since I'm using nearly all the tools in my arsenal. What I like best about him is that his combos aren't as over the top as noel, or even jin so his handle doesn't feel unfair, but challenging. You already know about his burning heart's counter abilities that have enough priority to counter even distortion drives, and he is able to teleport when his counter acts as a shield against a move in split seconds (press x,y, or z after your counter blocks a move). He also his quarter circle forward B(strong button) grab that does a good bit of damage that can be worked into, and his running special which takes priority over a good bit of distortion drives, and is easy to get trapped in.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

I'm kinda late in saying this, but BB is definitely my favorite fighter now.

Also, the English voice acting for all the characters is just so damn good! I'm glad Aksys actually dubbed it since I always wanted to know the little character-specific conversations that would happen in GG (and for the game itself to be spoken in English).

I pretty much prefer BB over GG, even though I started with GG :p It's just so vibrant and awesome...and purdy.

Anyway...WTF! >:'( Why won't my D-Card change!? I've been using Hakumen as of late and have won a lot of matches, but Litchi and Jin are still the characters displayed on my D-Card respectively, even though I've used Hakumen way more than I ever did Jin  I want him to show up as my main, dammit! :'(

I'll probably go sign up on Aksys and bug them with this question if someone else hasn't already.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Tager didn't show up as my main until he overtook Noel, so I'm guessing you need to use Hakumen until he passes Litchi in ranked. The sub never updated for me until the main character changed and was bumped down to that.

Yeah, but, see...it already feels like I did surpass Litchi. I even checked and I have more wins with Hakumen than Litchi...unless you surpass the characters by spending more time with them D: In which case, I have a looooong way to go, since I'm positive I got the Achievement for 25 hours of play time while using Litchi. But if it's determined by actual play time, Jin should've been replaced by Haku-poo already since I only used him, like, five times </3

AKSYYYYYSSSSS! Forward this to Arc immediately kthx :D

Anyway...Papercuts, I feel so dirty D: I played a ton of ranked matches and there were some god-awful people :( And I only say this when all they do is spam moves (which is rare, thankfully). I went so far as to negatively review a Noel user who did nothing but her Drive move, even though I always countered it!!! Seriously, no normal attacks in sight!

Actually friend, that is what I was looking for, thank you.

Unfortunately with a busted PS3 I don't know when I'm going to play BB soon again.

I forgot to cover a couple of topics that I should have covered...

Most people already know about the Bang-install or "super mode", but I don't think that they notice that Bang can't perform a normal block. It is a bit of a weakness, but you can do without it as long as you learn how to barrier block on demand. His strength also allows 20% more damage with every blow, and grabs even though he doesn't have any new moves. Super mode is all about taking everything up a notch not about a complete style change so it's mostly an uplift for all of his moves so if you know regular Bang the match only becomes easier for you. One thing no one notices either is that super Bang has an easy time gettin behind you, because of that dash. He doesn't need to jump over some, all he needs is just a phase through which means going in for throws is a joke for him. With the extra damage on all attacks, easy throw opportunity, and an already depleted health bar(four burning heart requirement), you are just about guaranteed victory at transformation. I would comment on the bumper strategies, but I'm not well acquainted with those yet.

Sorry for the long posts:lol

Edit: sorry about the PS3 :(

Finally got the clap loop down I think! Just need to practice all of the setups and then I might switch over to Carl from Noel. My thumb feels like it is going to fall off from practicing it so much this morning =/

Yeah I need to figure out standard Bang combos that end with the drive. Just got schooled by one doing that, and really doesnt seem complicated.

Also getting to where I dont panic as much when crap starts flying everywhere :lol

I've been checking how the pools are going and this is the status:

XBL:
Pool 1: Only my match with jdub remains
Pool 2: Greatly delayed
Pool 3: 50% done or more
Pool 4: Seems they just started
(In the OP Pool 3 and 4 were accidentaly mixed up, Pool 4 is Teknoman's Pool)

PSN:
Pool 1: About 25% done
Pool 2: Abot 60% done
Pool 3: Barely Stared
Pool 4: Complete

In the events of this, I am going to delay the Deadline to Sunday August 16th at 9PM EST. I know college or school has started to some, work and weekdays don't go along well and another weekend will benefit you guys for a lobby gathering so I think this is best. August 17th will begin the next phase of the tournament, the Double Elimination bracket. I hope no one has a problem with this!

So I've decided to pick Taokaka as my sub. Thing is I can't do anything with her!

Tao players how the hell do you get in on the enemy? With Noel I just tap A when close to get a combo going. But it seems like Taokaka's hands are way too short or something. Like I'd literally be right up close to someone and her 5A would whiff! Wtf? I can do a 5A5B6A5D combo and start her air loop going when I'm offline, but online damn! I can't even hit people with her standing A. I have to rely on her "counter special" to get the air loop going but that's too slow.

So yeah. How the hell do you do it?

I usually dust cancel right next to people. The B cancel where you end up behind them is really nice.

Down+A is a great way to start a combo too. It seems like it has a farther reach than the neutral A.

Toward+B is another good one. You can combo that into down-forward B as well, which works nicely.

Toward+C works really well too. You can do a down-forward C after that as well to start a combo.

Nevermind that Noel...that Hakumen was great! He certainly knew what he was doing.

Back to Noel: Damn! I can get behind a Noel user that can win with minimal Drive attacks.

Also, I found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKnN211MXbU&feature=related

That Hakumen was pretty beast, too.

Being that I'm trying to sub Noel (fucking John Woo Gunkata and all that), I noticed that she avoided Hakumen's Cs while rushing in from full screen stopping just short. Nice self-control. And like what Dragonlife said, minimal Drive. More self-control.

Seeing that Tager chainblock hoping for a 360/720 opportunity hurt. I see myself there. I do keep in mind to at least try to get in the air and not filterfeed mistakes, ESPECIALLY against a ground pounder like Noel. "Give the gift of Guard Libra today!"

Speaking of good Rachel players, I went up against a really high level player about 8 times today in ranked, and couldn't win a single match. I took a few rounds of him, but otherwise no dice.

MidnightSerenade I think was his name? Basically he just blocked any rush down I had and then found a spot to counter back. He really only used one of 3 combos depending on how he counter hit. If I don't be aggressive he just sets up all of his projectile crap and THEN attacks, which is generally bad news for me. I could never seem to predict that diving dress move (j.2C?) and I was getting hit by it a lot. So annoying!

I need more practice against Rachel I think.

Haha, you got it man. That room we had going last week was awesome. Hopefully sometime tomorrow we can get some games going again. :D

I'm officially the worst Carl player ever that can do the throw loop =/

Tried playing him in player matches last night and I think my win percentage dropped by 10% or so... and not against good players. C. Viper has nothing on Carl.

Just as I think I'm getting halfway decent at this game, I have a solid week of nothing but losses. I picked a real doozy of a game to get into the fighting game genre!

Finally at around 130 ranked matches played, I start getting my win percentage over 30%. But over the past three days, I've won 1 or 2 of 20-30 matches.

So.... someone else who's scaled the enormous fighting game learning curve care to give me some hope? Some reason to keep at it? :D

I started at like 20% for BB starting with Rachel with GAF player matches. I got it up to 48% and probably staying around there. I started Ranked matches at around 30% player matches, but was able to get to 55% quickly.

It's really rewarding to see those numbers climb up, especially if you haven't really checked in a while. You remember 20%, play a few, check, 30%. Feels sooo good :lol

I really recommend looking up videos, especially if you have the basics down. It really helps me out figuring out some tactics and what to do. Dustloop really helps out, they have matchup discussions and links to videos.

This is the only fighting game where I feel like I want to win (Still without being too competitive). I've even gone so far as to write down Hakumen's combos on paper and stuff :p I have never done that. I also went on Dustloop for the first time yesterday to really look at their Hakumen threads and stuff.

I still don't think my Hakumen is that great (There's definitely room for improvement) but I'm pretty good at reading opponents sometimes and can punish them greatly. I've gotten a few Perfects on Ranked, too :D I think some Jin was trash-talking over his headset at me because I would always punish his mistakes, but I'm not sure since I never use my headset for random matches. All I know from hearing the mumbling on my TV speakers is that he sounded heated :p

Also, I hate Ragnas :( It's no exaggeration when I say that they all seem to do the same combos (I can see why since they're effective). Sometimes they do win matches that way, sometimes not--all I know is that it gets on my nerves more than Jin players (But then again, Jin players don't bug me as much as others :p). Whenever I see one that doesn't fall victim to conformity and still manages to whoop me...it feels awesome. Also, I fucking love Hakumen mirror matches! :D Sooooo awesome! They're definitely my favorite match-ups and, thankfully, I always manage to win :D

/rant

Anyway, I'd like to get a room with at least five GAFfers, dammit!

Did you report it yesterday but only posted about it today? I ask because yesterday it fixed itself, which was great. I was going to rectify my post with the update but other things got in the way :p Thank you nonetheless, though! :D

I still cant get into this game... I mainly say this cause I'm not the type that likes bullet hell games and I see this as the fighter version of bullet hells... not for me but good game.

If you're playing against an Arakune who has cursed you, it pretty much is exactly that. :lol

So I just discovered something awesome today.

Noel has an on-landing attack! Basically if you input any of her drive finishers so that you are finishing the move as her leg is touching the ground, you will execute the finisher without having to go through her drive!

If used right it could add a whole new layer to Noel's game. Especially her bloom trigger with its massive range. Imagine jumping forward, then dashing back and the other player starts rushing towards you. BAM! Gun to the face from across the screen. Did that to the AI today.

I guess we'll have to keep it to five participants from now on, though...:lol I'm sorry you had to leave early Xero :( I'll know next time so you don't have to give up your spot.
