The BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Official Thread [360/PS3] - Be Ready for the Rebel

Oh no good sir. At first he may seem to be straightforward but or little bi-polar knight can mix it up quite well. Zone long to mid range and etc., etc.
Well, I still have a lot to learn. I only rented it, so I'm trying to figure out who I'm going to play as so that when I buy it, I can really buckle down on that character. Right now, it's Jin, but I'm still fighting with all force and no finesse.

I'll keep Jin and Noel in mind, though it's likely I'll try some difficult character and have no idea what I'm doing for a while just because they look cool. :lol

Thanks for the help guys. I'll probably grab the game this weekend, probably on 360. :D

Easy to learn; hard to master.
I'm not sure "learn" is the correct word.

It's easy to simply pick up and have fun with for sure.

but good luck having a person new to the genre "easily learn" about rapid cancels, barrier blocking, throw escapes, when to burst, ukemi, instant guard, counter assault, etc. It's overwhelming to learn at first.

Can they really do that this generation though?

My guess is some will be DLC, and some new games. Hopefully AKsys realizes that their fanbase mainly wants it ASAP, and is willing to pay for that.

All but Tager

Lies. Tager is one of the easiest characters. Sure at high level play it's a pain in the ass, but he can easily dominate online. His combos are simple, and his moves are devastating.

I cannot stand him. Everybody loves him. He just nothing but another version of Raiden of King of Fighters and Zangief of Street Fighter.

I didn't know Raiden or Zangief could attract their opponents...

WTF is this..............Raiden spits...uh.....FIRE
Zangief spins around like a helicopter
Tager has MAGNET HANDS, and if you knew anything about grapplers in past fighting games, then you would know that magnet hands +720 = greatness

But yea Ragna = Ryu= Chuji from Tobal 2 = White side Karate Champ =WTF SERIOUSLY!

After a bunch of bouncing around, I've finally settled on Noel since I'm still relatively new to the genre. Her combos are the easiest to chain IMO. I've also had a much easier time managing high/middle/low counters with her basic moveset than with other characters.

I find myself playing too defensively with Jin and find his combos a bit more involved.

Regardless, I totally suck and have only eked out a couple of wins in ranked matches. :D

I have been playing Fighting games since 92. I remember the SNK cabinets. I look at Tager as that guy who have no chance until that one grapple, similar to Raiden and da Gief.

Noel's chains are easy to do, but if you don't know how to sequence them, you're at the mercy of jab spam/high block/Tagers mashing BC. At that point, you'll need good fundamentals or you're stuck with a low range fighter with troubles getting in.

Well I mentioned grapplers specifically. Tager is pretty unique, if only for the fact that hes the first Arc System grappler to use a 360 motion for his normal big grab (The first 360 motion was Donvalves super I think). Also I think his command grab can be broken? Hes got a crazy good projectile and can charge it whenever people are scared to rush in. Compared to SNK style grapplers like Clark and Shermie (my favorite), and Capcom style like Hugo and Birdie, Tager definitely has a unique feel and play style. For some reason I have more trouble pulling off 360s reliably and the 720, maybe Im too used to cheating the motion a bit in other games..

I also disagree with Gief and Raiden being "one-trick ponies", but it differs from game to game.

360's in this game are about as easy as they are in SF4, which is really easy compared to most other games with the motion. 720s on the other hand, are one of the hardest in any fighting game to date, you have to hit all four cardinal directions (B, D, F, U x2) without ever going to neutral on the joystick/joypad. Most 720s (save Super Turbo's) typically allow you to "cheat" and go to neutral (allowing the double 360 method).

The fact that Tager's command grab is a 360 is actually a huge advantage in the long run, compared to Potemkin. It allows you to go from back to up back (much faster than going to forward). Making attempting a command grab in a block string much safer. I'm glad they made the change.

Tager is easily the best made grappler to date. You can actually be really creative with him, something that can't really be said for most other grapplers.

I'm coming around to this idea as well. Tager's my main and I've found him really satisfying to use -- reminds me of some of my favorite SNK grapplers since he's more mobile than he looks and he's got some good combo options. The magnetism effects of his Drive moves open up some really interesting possibilities. I love using the magnetized Atomic Collider (anti-air grab) against Arakunes, Rachels, and whoever else tries to stay in the air too long...

The fact that Tager becomes rather 'fast' when used correctly puts him in a different category than normal grapplers. The way his 2D closes ground and 236A moves him forward quickly while going through other moves gives the player in control a lot more options. Tager can whoop your ass without ever grabbing you. Magnetism is his main killer. It makes blocking seem like a bad idea at times. Combine that with a vicious anti-air game and the best projectile in the game and he's damn near unstoppable in the right hands.

I fear a good Tager waaaaaaaaaaay more than a good Nu.
but only slightly more than a good Carl

For beginners though, its very hard to jump right into the game with Tager for a lot of reasons.

Is the LE Gamestop exclusive? I called 4 in my area and they're all sold out.

Nope. Any place that is selling the game is selling the LE, including online retailers. That's the only one there is.

Good games, Icana, Papercuts, and shiki (GAFfer?).

What was my win-loss ratio? I think when I left it was 3:24-7, no? :lol That's pretty good, though, considering the people I'm playing

Anyway, I totally improvised and came up with some new combos! And I remember them! Anyway, I've gotta practice the inputs themselves...for some reason I forget what direction to do the full/quarter turns. I'm progressing, though, since before I couldn't even utilize Litchi's stick like I do now! :D

From the front page:

The DLC box in the current Story mode is blank, but it's still there. I'm guessing we'll get a new character or two by the end of the year, along with their respective story modes.

And is anyone else getting sick of playing against Noels and Jins online? I haven't played against a single Nu in ranked yet, and I've probably played at least 2 hours of ranked.

Still losing most games I play online. I've got the special moves down but I'm still having trouble chaining them all together. This game is dominating all of my game time so far it seems like.

Nope, Nu and Hakumen have their own spots below the other 10. You just need to get Clear Ends on everyone else to unlock them.

Semi-spoilers:
there are actually 13 story paths in total.

Papercuts

Yup, good games. Your Litchi is getting hard for me to handle now, I need to stop being so offensive and try defending more. :p

Icana's Noel is nearly unbeatable for me right now, or atleast it seemed like that. I need to practice backdash 360 grabs more because I was butchering that horribly. :lol

Oh, and Jube's Hakumen is good. I still need to learn how to fight that character in general though.

Ice spamming Jin's are getting ridiculous, but I haven't seen as many Noel players recently. I see a lot of Ragna and Taokaka, and some people reflexively try to counter me with Nu and Arakune so I see them fairly often. I have ~250 ranked matches and am still overall surprised at the overall variety people pick now, though it started off with pretty much 99% of the matches playing the trifecta of Ragna, Jin, or Noel. I think Carl and Bang are the rarest for me to see.

Nice.

And thats also easily the best Bang I've seen in that first video as well.

The thing with Inoue is that they use that rolling sword special attack a lot. I can't tell why really. My only guess is the delay ability on it and the fact that it can be used as a anti-air in some cases but even then it leaves you open forever. Inoue is still a zoning beast though.

Spike chaser (the rolling sword attack) is *great*, that's why. Leads into big damage combos, stops dashes and IADs, and makes opponents who are knocked down think twice about teching forward.

I'll need to work on incorporating that more then. I think I play a bit too much faith in Nu's standing C attack at times. The range is great and often times it allows me to keep a guy in place while a dash to wherever I need to be at but its not all that great when it comes to comboing into the more damaging combos.

I have not played Story mode that much. I love playing online. I have a problem with finishing the match. If I get ahold of you, then you going to feel the wraith of NU

Good games. You're Litchi is really picking it up. I'm trying to stay ahead. :D Personally, I find using the analog stick for quarter motion stuff a billion times easier than the 360 D-pad. That's just me though. :)

I don't believe Shiki is a gaffer. He was some random person I met online and he game me (doesn't that sound cool) his GT and we became game friends from there.

Sorry, Griftor. :( I didn't think the lag in our first match was that bad, but maybe I'm just getting used to it. I don't know what happened the second time around. I will say, once you left everything went back to normal with not too much hitches during play. :)

Papercuts, I'm finally breaking into your Tager! Rawr! Good matches, buddy.

Jube, nice to meet you. I hope to play with you more sometime. I haven't fought much Hakumen before so those fights were fresh to me. You're pretty dangerous with him. :)

The content is already on the disc, so they see the Unlimited character or color scheme but they can't use it.
Nothing has been said about any original character DLC.

Yeah, I like being all over the place with Litchi; it's very effective.

Ooooh! Don't get me started on Icana's Noel :( I should've burst out over the mic with, "CRAAAAAWLING IIIIIN MY SKIIIIIIN!" D:

Oh hai, Icana :D

Man, you changed up your combos to be more devastating (I don't recall you ever incorporating the down-heel kicks)! I want to say "good job" because your Noel's even more amazing now, but...D:

Seriously, great job! You're amazing

Yeah, Papercuts's Tager is all kinds of awesome. I seriously wish I could dodge those volt tackles he does more often after you land from a throw! I don't know how I managed some of my escapes from those, but it's possible...!

They could use it to update BB to the next version, like #reload for GG. So anyone who didn't buy it would still be playing the old game.
