The BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Official Thread [360/PS3] - Be Ready for the Rebel

"Doubt it, most characters didn't even have one in the Arcade version. However, I did remember Arksys Podcast saying Tager had more than one....guess they were taken out."

I think you're confusing Distortion Drive with Astral Finish.

Finished up Megaman and now back to blazblue! 100% noel's story and got about 70% on Taokaka and Litchi. Man, Teach me Litchi is so hilarious, hell, Tao and Noel's were pretty hilarious if you took the right path.

It's more like an ice surfboard, really.

And here's a fun activity: spend 5 minutes in Training mode, and have Jin do his ice car over and over again. Block the first hit on his attack, then do an Instant Block on the second hit. The timing's the same between all of his ice cars, I think.

My friend has been going on and on about this game but I Haven't had the time to check it out. Is it really that good and worth my $60 or is it just another rental? Thanx

Yup, good games dragon and grifter! We seem to have those moments at least once per match, lol.

Those were fun games! Too bad I got in near the end but I like testing the dynamics of the Litchi and Tager matchups

I started with a better percentage than now but went through a combo of being busy with work and trying to rebuild my game (I was playing basic SF style to start) and am slowly picking my percentage back up. Think I just need to play a lot more to get really comfortable.

Yeah, Tager is my weakness. I've had better luck against randoms the last few days but I know if I play Lyte Edge again I'm gonna be fucked and humbled. He is dangerous!

Im surprised about the many noel/ragna users online. I thought it would be Nu-13, Arakune, and Rachel.
I run into Jin far more than any other character. Not that may Noels. I think I see more Ragnas and Hakumens.

I think I'm mainly getting paired up against Japanese players since I'm playing on a j360. It's either that or barely any Americans bought the damn game. I set the filter to local and I get nothing but blue pings and obviously Japanese tags. It's killin' me trying to find low ping games. Doesn't help that I mostly play at odd times.

I've run into a few Carls and they scare me because you gotta know what you're doing to have a positive win % with Carl. I salute them. I wish I was good enough to play him!

Uh, well we don't know much about your gaming tastes and how much you get into fighters. Information on what you like would help!

Probably won't be playing many online matches until I actually get a hang of things, but if you've got it on 360, feel free to add me!

If it helps, this is the first fighting game I've ever enjoyed this much since the SNES era.

Pick Jin.

Ice car-> walk forward, throw-> Ice car -> walk forward, throw.

Win.

Throw a Distortion Drive every now and again. Even if they block or throw tech out, you have room to navigate.

It's another reason why I hate Jin. Even the computer doesn't know what to do with his Ice car. :lol No joke, I beat Score Attack mode without retrying, doing this on my first try.

That said, I only lost a round to Unlimited Ragna. Have fun with him, guys. Either he or Unlimited Rachel take the title for hardest CPU.

Yeah, I hate fighting Carls online so much. Sometimes I can't tell if they're setting up the clap trap so I tend to barrier burst way too early. Apparently Tager vs. Carl is the most one sided according to dustloop(In Carl's favor, so it's worse than Nu or Arakune), the only part that is good is his life is the lowest in the game so it only takes a few good hits to end it quick. I should probably see videos on how to do the claptrap so I see when I should burst, whenever I get hit in the air and see that robot move I get way too cautious.

Yeah, it wasn't that bad with Jin, but I can't believe you beat Unlimited Ragna on your first try! Damn, I couldn't really do the ice car stuff on him, I would even try jumping back and doing it over his head to get the hell away from him and he would read the inputs and leap up smacking me to the ground and corner fucking me. :lol

The reason why the throw is so effective is because pretty much every character in Score Attack will tech out after they get hit by the Ice Car. The reason why this is so important is because they will never be grounded... so while they're teching out, you can simply walk forward and throw. It sets you up perfectly. And since they're frozen after the throw, you can just Ice Car again.

It's a loop that won't be broken unless they decide to tech out of your throw, which still makes it risk free since you can block afterward.

Is anyone using these controllers for BlazBlue? According to some of the reviews, they aren't great for half/quarter circle movements. I've been considering getting one since I'll never buy a stick...

Or are there any other reliable 360 controllers with a great d-pad?

Edit: Actually, weren't there some easy 360-d-pad mods out there? Gah...then again, I don't feel comfortable jeopardizing my only controller D:

i still await another match with you TEKNOPATHETIC!!!!!!! I'M CALLING YOU OUT!!!! WOOOOOO!!!!

Edit: i was unaware of "Teknomans" presence therefore i have edited my post to avoid confusion.

I don't have a Ragna D:

I do, however, have a mediocre Rachel which FMF was fapping to.

Anyway, Exodu5... I remember that towards the end of our mirror matches, you were getting better because I remember I had to resort to barrier burst... so keep at it!! :D

Dunno how it would feel when playing BlazBlue, but I had one for a little while to test out on SFIV. It felt... kinda cheap and wrong, honestly. :/ The buttons were decent and properly spaced, but that D-pad...

Other people in the SFIV thread seemed to enjoy it, if I remember correctly. So YMMV.

The people who can't hit the corners or have stickiness on their d-pad have defective controllers and automatically wrote it off as a design flaw. That's where you see the criticisms and they're mostly unwarranted.

Mine's perfect and I use it for Blazblue all the time. I think the new batches should all be fixed, but Madcatz will send you a replacement if you get a dud.

Just want to make sure people having trouble with Score Attack mode know that you can use a second controller to interrupt the matches if you're close to losing. So if you're needing more practice to find a way to cheese a particular match, that's your way to go. :D

It was the first controller I tried when I started the game, and I had a very difficult time doing Distortion Drive motions (half and quarter circles basically). I had no problems with that in SFIV, so it might just not be a good choice for the speed of BB.

If you're unwilling to learn stick, that SF4 pad is the best alternative by far just for the button layout.

Yeah this is how you do a thread....

One question though- XBOX 360 or PS3?

I love LIVE but the PS3 has the better d-pad....

Whichever system your friends are on. If it's just with GAFers, then PS3 if you don't want to invest in a new controller. If you're playing on the 360, get yourself a Fightpad at the very least.

The Dualshock works incredibly well with this game for some reason though...it's really quite magic. I'm sticking with my stick though!

The 360 Pad works surprisingly well for BB. I've heard that the fightpad isn't "responsive" enough for BB's twitchy movements. YMMV

started playing this yesterday, still have no idea what i'm doing, can't execute basic jin air combos in a real fight -- but i'm starting to win ranked matches against better players with basic jin zoning tactics. fireballs + freeze + srk = play blazblue like it's sf2! :(

I've been playing with the fightpad and I like it so far. It took a little getting used to, especially the DD moves, but I've gotten a lot better at them and now prefer the fightpad to the normal Sixaxis

I swear I don't get it...

Nu is my main, and I just absolutely obliterated this Tager for the majority of the round til I get caught with the spark and get manhandled - I burst out of it then the guy cancels my burst with a burst of his own, sledges my swords then 720s me into hell. Round 2 I didn't even get a combo going. Just got sledged and pounded for a hot 15 seconds...

Tager's magnetic charge move will negate the knockback on a barrier burst, but it's only really viable if you were pretty obvious when you were going to burst.

In my opinion, Nu can only take a solid three combos from anyone until its a wrap. Two from Tager - but the magnetism can stretch one combo into some helldeathstormarmageddon type shit.

I guess playing the legions of Noels is getting to me. You can burst against them just fine then resume to picking them apart in gravity wells.

Well, against Tager with anyone barrier burst is something you need to be careful about. It depends when you're doing it, but especially against him you should wait until the end, doing it early then eating a 720 usually means death, and Nu already doesn't have much health to start with.
