The Last Guardian review embargo lifts on December 5th at 7am PST/10am EST/16.00 CET

I do actually. Didn't really like Ni No Kuni much but I bought it based on the Ghibli thing.

I'll check this game out on that recommendation.

Cool! I think you should. Didn't care much for NNK either, but I strongly feel that Famito Ueda is gaming's Hayao Miyazaki.

Ueda games are closer to the spirit of Ghibli movies than NnK, despite the art style differences.

Agreed!

Ueda noted that My Neighbor Totoro was an inspiration for this title.

Well there it is. Didn't know that!

As we get closer to 10 AM I expect a lot of posts like these:

15 Minutes
5 Minutes
2 Minutes

So beautifully blasted by the Brodeo:
GFW Radio - 100407 - Heroes of the Web - Halo review hype

If I had any creativity I would have just re-interrupted all the Halo references and wrote my own review using this template...I just don't know enough about Japan.
Haha I remember reading that post in the halo 3 review thread. And then GFW reading it on the podcast. Good times

I'm urinating just waiting.

And then there is this

So excite!!

Will buy regardless of review, but I'm still looking forward to see how the main stream media will react.

..is it still safe to buy games on my (secondary) US account?
I want it one day earlier, even though I won't have time to play. :(((

Man, I was wondering why the fuck everyone wasn't going wild at 10am, then I remembered that the country I lived in actually changed time zones and we're no longer EST, lol.

Another 50 minutes, then!

I see a lot of people interested but didn't play ico and sotc, like please go play those timeless classics.
Is it just me or does Ueda seem significantly less known by the gaming audience at large than someone like Kojima? Arguably, Ueda is just as influential as Kojima, but you rarely hear people talk about the man, his style of games, or his influences very often.

Like Ueda basically influenced or had an impact on everyone's favorite series and games. Uncharted and The Last of Us. Half Life 2. Zelda. Metal Gear Solid. Prince of Persia. Halo. Demons Souls and the rest of Miyazaki's games. Fez. Inside. Journey.

Well yeah, Kojima has been around longer making games, he's got a larger portfolio and he also seems like a guy who loves the spotlight.

It was nice to see Ueda get recognized at E3 2015 by shu.

It's probably because Kojima is known as a rockstar in the game industry. He's on camera a lot. Ueda? He's never in the spotlight like Kojima would be for his games. Ueda let's the game do the talking for him.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Its like comparing Stanley Kubrick to Stephen Spielberg. Both masters in their craft but with very different focuses and audiences. Kubrick/Ueda is the more art house creator that is absolutely beloved by fans of their art but can also put off others because of how strong an uncompromising a vision they have. Spielberg/Kojima generally makes easier to consume movies, while also doing some crazy out there stuff but they make stuff more easily digestible and enjoyed by a casual/general audience.

Edit: I also realize the movie director choices aren't the best parallels for Ueda and Kojima but just using them as loose examples for the kind of creator they are and who they appeal to.

Edit 2: Maybe Terrance Mallick would have been a better choice instead of Kubrick considering the kind of creator he is and the movies he makes.

Well, gaming and its auteurs have gone very mainstream in the past decade and Ueda has basically been a ghost that entire time.

Posters above me appear to have forgotten that :)

I hope the first review is a 4/10 so we can start with a bang

I am kidding, I dont care for reviews for this game, but I hope it reviews well so it can sell decently from word of mouth

No, I'm sure Kojima would love that you compared him to a movie director.

Yeah, don't be fooled by people who love things and are looking forward to the next work of art by the people who made those things.

You have to wait for the opinion of someone who doesn't love those things, because that's better somehow.

Seriously is this bullshit for real

You make it sound like the only reason to hyped is because you're a fan of Team Ico's games and the game itself has not merits of its own

Wow, easy. I'm not disrespecting the game. I am a big Team Ico fan and I am looking forward to this game. But it is true the hype this game is generating is mostly from fans of the studio. I don't think people who buy this game just because of the fans adulation will be too pleased with it.

Team Ico games have never had mass appeal and from the previews and impressions the game seems to be very simple but with an emotional core. I don't think everyone will be into that.

I prefer the Ueda approach to it vs Kojima. Let the games speak.

Is there an interview or something where Aonuma-san or Fujibayashi or someone on the Zelda team talks about Ueda's influence on their games? I'd be interested to read that. Thanks!

Your entire argument is silly. Who else than fans of past games would 'generate hype' (that phrase ugh)?

Also, you have entirely no idea how crowd-pleasing this game will turn out to be.

New page edit:

40 minutes left, wahey!

I prefer the Ueda approach to it vs Kojima. Let the games speak.

Ueda's games haven't had a chance to 'speak' for nearly a decade, so that might explain a little about how well-known Ueda is compared to Kojima.
