Alright just watched the trailer. It was pretty
decent. I mean, there's not much you can mention in a two-minute trailer, but I think the larger audience watching it conveyed what the product is pretty well, similar to the PS5 Pro's reveal. Though like the PS5 Pro's reveal, a trailer or commercial-like infomercial sizzle reel doesn't do too much for me personally.
Also while I'm still thinking about it, maybe the Switch 2 trailer reveal has a similar "issue" I had with the PS5 Pro reveal? That being, with the PS5 Pro reveal I think SIE didn't do a great job actually showing the performance gains of Pro over base PS5 with most of what was selected in that trailer. Similarly, I don't know if Nintendo's really communicated what makes the Switch 2 a large upgrade over the Switch 1 vs. seeming like more of the same. Yes, they showed it's slightly bigger and has new improved sticks & some controller buttons, but if they didn't specifically mention "Switch 2" in the trailer I wouldn't be mad if someone thought it was just a Switch XL.
This might just be me, but when you're revealing a new system, show off (even as some teasing snippets) a new game to go along with it. Something that can really sell we're about to jump into a new experience. I'm not saying the trailer reveal is bad by any means, but again, similar to the PS5 Pro's reveal (where IMO it needed more games like GT7 showing off its improvements, and less like TLOU2), it could've been quite a bit better. Even having said that, well, we know Nintendo's going to share more about Switch 2 over the next few months; it'll have its proper full-featured presentation and new big 1P exclusives, so ultimately my critique is on nothing more than the trailer itself.
I'm not expecting a Mark Cerny-level seminar into the technical specifics of the system, because that's something which worked (and was needed) for PS5 Pro; Switch 2 isn't that type of product. But I
am expecting a more fully-featured Switch 2 Direct at some point at least comparable to the Summer 2020 PS5 Showcase. Whether that's with 1P games, 3P games, or a mix of both...I'll be expecting something to that degree.
EDIT: Also hopefully they clear up the bit about some Switch games not being compatible. I figure all games would, so I'm curious what the exceptions are. Maybe it's similar to the PS2 not being able to play a (really small) handful of PS1 games like MK3 Trilogy for some odd reason, but otherwise it's less than 1% of the total library. Could be the games that relied on cloud streaming to be playable on OG Switch, that won't be exactly compatible with the new system.
After everything has been leaked (design, motherboard, specs, etc...) this presentation feels like too little and feels rushed, this MK9 is almost identical to MK8, I hope it improves a lot for the final version.
I don't think that was MK9.
what differences LOL
oh theres a new way to put your controllers on and the docks the same, i cant believe what im seeing online lol
this is also the same video format they've been using for almost a decade
Yeah like, the trailer for me was overall pretty decent, but without them specifically mentioning "2" near the end I could have just as easily assumed it was a Switch XL.
You know, similar to the 3DS XL model that came out for that system. Then again, I have very specific standards for new console reveals, just like for mid-gen refresh reveals (in fact some of the issues I have with this trailer are analogous to issues I had with the initial PS5 Pro reveal trailer, too).
