Wait, so I cannot copy PS5 save files to a USB drive? I need PS+ to upload them to the cloud?

Support page says all data.
  • When restoring data, your PS5 console will erase all data saved on your console.
Make sure you don’t erase any important data by mistake. Erased data cannot be restored.
On my end it says that my data on my SSD won't be deleted

The data comes mostly from my old PS4 Pro. Even if it didn't, wiping out the last two months to keep a single file isn't exactly something I wanna do. It's not the end of the world. I can do without. I ain't giving Sony a penny for this though.

Huh?

If you back up your data to the USB it's going to be restored

What is it that you're worried about losing?

So you have 2 PS5'S but the save file that you want is on the PS5 that you haven't played for awhile or something?

I’m worried about wiping out the entire system? I only need the save data. Either I back up the entire system including the save data and that will take ages or I only back up the saves but upon restoring, it will only recover the saves. I can’t even just copy that save data to a USB drive, paste it in another PS5, log in to my account, and continue my playthrough there.

But you mentioned it comes from a PS4 Pro? PS4 saves you can move in and out of the PS5 freely via USB and not worry about anything. If it's the PS5 games you want to backup (because you're moving to another PS5 or something) you have to just back up your entire saves. It's all tied to accounts now. In the old gens you could just download somebody elses save file.

My entire PS4 Pro has been restored onto my new PS5 Pro. This isn’t a problem. All I want to do now is to back up the saves of Demon’s Souls on my PS5 and play it on another PS5.

Well that makes more sense. I think this is why he's asking

"So you have 2 PS5'S but the save file that you want is on the PS5 that you haven't played for awhile or something?"

Since he thinks an entire backup/restore would solve your problem. It's not that easy though if there are 2 PS5s that are out of sync in terms of save data. It's a pain in the ass without PS+.

Couldn't you just use the PS+ trail & transfer that file then cancel?

I don’t think there’s a trial and if there was, I probably used it up years ago. I recall having one when I bought my PS3. I certainly don’t have a free trial with the Pro.

More than a penny but check online if you can get a cheap short sub or free trial or something.

I paid for a month to do the PS5 to PS5 Pro system transfer. Then I forgot to deactivate recurring billing so they charged me for a second month…. I hate everything about these online pay walls.

Best work around if you just want to play your games on another PS5 and keep the progress without PS+ is to just remote Play your PS5 using the other PS5.

Sure thing.
Another limitation is the need to be born, as someone who doesn't exist cannot buy video games.
What the hell are you talking about? What has this got to do with the cloud saves not being unlimited as you claimed? You only get a certain amount of storage.

This is one of the reasons that led to my decision to cancel PS+ and stop giving Sony extra money. I don't like being held hostage and be forced to pay for the cloud saves when the same system allows for free USB backups of PS4 games. Wanting to fight modded saves is just a poor excuse to implement this change.

Obviously it's not a universal solution to show Sony the middle finger, but in my case if I go back to some game after a long break I start it from scratch anyway.

It's for protection from foreign code being injected via USB. The PlayStation userbase are like 300. We hold the line by shielding the players next us.

Trying to do USB save backups means you are like Ephialtes and would introduce a weakness into our strong ranks. We simply cannot allow it, we are all Leonidas.

It is a pain in the ass though. But.....

Seriously just pay the 5 bucks, you pay way over the odds for a GPU for your productivity machine. Easiest solution.

I always wonder if posts like this are paid posts to drive engagement. It must be. It certainly is on Resetera. They state it in the 'job' description.

So then it's better to backup everything and not just saves unless for a very specific reason you want every other data erased/reset in case you restore.

This seems all needlessly restrictive to me.

Even worse for me, you can't even copy/delete single saves of a game like you could do on PS4. You can delete/copy the entire gamesaves bulk, or nothing.

No idea of the exact figure per game, haven't touched xbox in almost a decade to care.
Then let me (as someone who touched his Xbox just yesterday) tell you that in practice there is no limit that you can run into.
MS don't make it clear how much you get for each game. They make it clear that it isn't unlimited:

It says that the available cloud storage increases with the number of games in the library. Since most games have a limited amount of save slots, running out of cloud storage is a purely theoretical case that I have yet to experience.

The guy just wanted to back up his Demon's Soul's save, so he'd have it in case anything happened to it. He's not trying to do a system transfer, or delete anything from his console as part as a consequence of making a copy (it's supposed to be a copy, not a move).

Since day 1 OP.

Also blame save editor programs like PS3 GG and PS4 SW for that.

Both which I have of course. :messenger_winking:

I backed up my whole system, including saves, with a USB drive and restored it when I got my Pro, no problem.

Didn't realize you couldn't easily do a single save. As others have said, it's probably to avoid problems with hacking or exploitation.

"You've yet to experience" and claiming it's unlimited are not the same thing. I've seen several people run into the limit so why are you claiming it's 'theoretical'? The problem is that MS just doesn't provide numbers for how it works and it seems to vary from person to person that hit it.

I dont understand how Sony can get away with it. Its so bad for the consumer, it should actually be illegal.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were unlimited storage. Death Stranding had a bug where the save games would exponentially increase in size, which caused some people to max out their PS+ storage just with their DS save until they deleted it from the cloud and it was patched.

Yeah, sadly Sony fuck up this option. At a point that is simply more easy just pay the PSN. And I know, I know, that's exactly what they wanted.

You stated the reason in the OP, and unfortunately you were right; Sony wants you to pay them for the right to back up a save. It's scummy, it's shitty, and it will work because gamers just eat up whatever shit Sony dumps on em with a smile on their face.

One of the very reasons I've skewed heavily to PC gaming these last few years..

Sick of having to pay subs to game.

Do Nintendo do the same?

Wouldnt it still delete the whole save after 6 months even if its unlimited size? My issue I dont trust myself to remember the 6 months date after unsubbing, and losing all my gamesaves, and not so much the size of the saved games.
