Wait, so I cannot copy PS5 save files to a USB drive? I need PS+ to upload them to the cloud?

Wait, they delete saves after six months? What the fuck.

I still have Xbox 360 cloud saves.
Have you ever unsubbed and never logged in? The 6 months is data protection laws if you don't ever log in. Same with Nintendo. They don't delete it but state they keep it a maximum of 6 months. I have PS3 saves from 2007. As long as you use that NSO/PSN account you're fine.

Why do you wanna put it on usb?

Just upload on cloud and forget about it.

If its paywalled, then pay the toll. Simple.

Sony probably wants more money cause their first party titles are expensive to make. I thought everyone knew the drill by now.

Are you stupid or something? Recently they set on fire 400 000 000 dollars with Concord release.

You say it was ps+ money?

Not true. I've got game saves on PSN cloud from 2013 that I can download right now and I wasn't subscribed for more than a year from 2023 to 2024.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, nope. You can’t manually move save data off the Switch to an external device. There is one exception: Transferring data to a new Switch. Otherwise all save file backups require a NSO subscription for cloud save access.

Even worse: not every game gets backed up to the cloud with Switch Online. Some of them purposely block online cloud save backups. None of the Pokémon games support cloud save backup, for example.
Yep. None of the recent consoles allows for USB backup. MS offers free cloud storage, however.

Wait 'til you hear about the 100 games limit on Cloud saves..

Don't think that is correct. The limit is 100 GB, not 100 games.

"You can save up to 100 GB of PS5 saved data and 100 GB of PS4 saved data. The number of PS4 saved data files you can store is limited to 1000."

Everybody has free cloud saves except consoles.

Yeah, cloud saves for games is the most stupid thing to not be free. This is just corporate greed at max level. To think all this BS started with a horse armor, which made them realize they could milk people wallets' dry. They are just focusing on finding every way possible.

Well, 100 Gb. isn't enough neither nowadays, in fact, I reached that cap years ago

I have over a hundred PS5 games saved and it’s not even using 5% of the cloud data. This includes big bois like GT7. Most of the saves are from games we all won’t ever visit again. Save files aren’t that big for the majority of games. You’re talking 5-15mb on average not counting larger outliers.

You’ll be in a new gen before coming close.

Yeah, 100GB is more than enough. The biggest save file I got is Gran Turismo 7 at around 250MB. Demon's Souls is less than 10MB.

For cloud saves? It's plenty.

I’m already at 5GB of saves and I haven’t event played that many games, especially those with large save files. They will need to increase this though it will probably be locked to a higher tier.

Yet there are hundreds of trash games in the PS Store made solely for trophy hunters, often without any real gameplay. Or there are games with multiple versions which can autopop trophies as soon as you launch a different version.

But yeah, it's more important to go after the minority who tries to edit saves, surely there's no other motive.

Must be a little more than 100GB now looking at my screenshot above. Says I have 102.4GB available. But it looks like it is 100GB (or whatever it is) per generation of PlayStation. Below shows my cloud saves just for PS4. PS5 has its own separate space in the cloud. This is obviously plenty for me.

lol....Sony took USB game saves away? I had no idea either. So if I want to backup my saves I have to have storage large enough to back up the whole damn system? That's just shitty. Already stupid that they put cloud saves behind a damn pay wall like Nintendo, but at least Nintendo still has manual save backups.....right?

I didnt know this either lmao. what the fuck? Whats next? Pay for PSN to save more than once?

Aparently given how many people are complaining about cloud saves... For Trophy Whores, save scumming is a big deal.

Apparently this is an across the board console thing, not just PS.

But MS has free cloud. On PC you have free cloud (even from fucking EA and Ubi) and you can do whatever you want with your saves.

Sony can go fuck themselves. For PS4 games you still have USB stick option on PS5...

We went through some stuff to get my daughter's Animal Crossing save file moved over when she had to swap Switch consoles (for a second time). I believe Nintendo has lost her as a customer.

Yeah, having free cloud makes it less of an issue, but it would still be nice if consoles allowed for USB saves. At this point, with the lack of competition, I don't see the cloud save paywall being removed from PS any time soon, unfortunately.

Yep, I've had longer periods where I've not been subbed and they're kept. They can legally delete after 6 months but they don't. The only time this becomes an issue is if you don't interact with your account for extended periods and GDPR laws might come into play.

Saves are encrypted, although if you manage to get a console/user-specific decryption key then all bets are off.
Honestly, the 99.9% have to suffer for the vast minority of hackers who manage to do this. Sony should allow for USB transfers.

I had no idea either, didn't realise until after setting up my pro and wanted to transfer my saves over from my OG model (including demons souls incidentally).

I didn't find a solution, got pissed off, gave up and went right back to playing stuff on PC.

Their loss.

Sony was against industry standards with cloud saves (required PS+ from day one in 2010) but they were very pro consumer with that USB copy option. Now they removed it and we are only left with cloud save behind paywall.

Arrogant Sony is back and if someone don't believe it, here is one of examples when they limited consumer experience on PS5. I still don't like lack of web browser vs. PS4...

This is what happens when there is nearly zero competition.

But as noted, you can still back up. You just can't Save Scum.

Sony has their best engineers working on it. Simply put: the technology doesn't exist. There are whispers of a collaboration between Raytheon, SpaceX and Sony to figure it out. But you didn't hear it from me.

I said it a while back when I had to resub to PSN+ that this is one of the most anti-consumer things Sony (and Nintendo) do. I'm still waiting for the EU to do something because the FTC can't seem to get things done.
What is the FTC going to mandate?
None of the console manufacturers offer USB file backups and they can't force them to offer something for free that costs them money either. Sony just really needs to figure out how to make transfers more seemless. Make it so you can do partial restores better without having to wipe the system. Even if it's just a wired connection from one PS5 to the other like Switch does. There is no reason why that is not possible.

I do agree that it is intentionally designed that way to get Trophy Whores to sign up for PS+.

How is it 99.9% when most people will never try to copy there game save to another Console that's not their new main console while not being a PS+ subscriber?

Also there is Remote Play if it absolutely has to be your own saved progression that you use while playing on someone else's PlayStation.
