I just hope there's more to it than the usual. I never cared about Fire Emblem, Splatoon nor Xenoblade, so I'd love if they went back and revisit some of their older IPs, like F-Zero or Starfox. That would do it for me.

2 million in sales up to now, as I said niche at best. There is not a lot of point to it as most will simply play PS5 games on a TV to get the best experience.

not lame or a scam at all, I only play my handhelds at home and it is a far better device than the switch in every possible way for my use case

The PS5 gen first party wise is terrible compared to PS4. They don't even have a generation defining game yet.
For PS4 we got these games:
Marvel's Spider-Man
God of War 2018
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
The Last of Us Part II
Horizon Zero Dawn
Ghost of Tsushima
Bloodborne
Just to name a couple, PS5 has been nothing but a remake/remaster box.

I’m already prepping my clown makeup, but I’d bet there’s a new F-Zero on the horizon. I feel like F-Zero 99 was just testing the waters and preparing us. Hell, they’ve even released all of the GBA F-Zeros (including Climax!) recently.
Star Fox feels kind of dead, though. I would absolutely love a new one…

Well a big issue for both those platforms was that they go nowhere near the first party support Switch 2 will get. WII U never got its own mainline Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion, Zelda etc. Even when it got Smash and 2D Mario, it got those franchises just months after the 3DS did.
Switch 2 on the other hand should get Nintendo's full attention.

Haven’t even seen Mario on Switch 2. I keep thinking of those Unreal engine Mario videos on YouTube. This thing is going to sell like crazy especially if we see Pokemon and Animal Crossing.
Their console can now address a lot of limitations of the Switch. I don’t actually care but I wonder what’ll happen to stuff like MK1 and Alan Wake where the games looked like pure

I'll say yes if we're defining success as 100m units though it won't last 8+ years like the Switch unless it does a legit mid-gen refresh.
I think there will be more direct competition this time around. New PC handhelds are getting released all the time and Xbox has basically confirmed they'll be coming out with something in the near future. I know those aren't hybrid, but Switch was pretty much the only "high powered" portable when it released.
I'm also less certain about how the gaming landscape is changing. I have a few younger relatives that only play games on their PC or phone, no consoles. Every big tech company is wanting to be the Netflix of gaming including Netflix. Niche emulation devices are being released left and right. Social media as the new king of dopamine releases. It's a healthy console market, but it's not an automatic these days that everyone of a certain age demographic is automatically going to want or prefer a console.

Not sure if you are being serious.
It's not a full handheld when outside of a Hotspot, but if you have internet connectivity it's basically a mobile ps5 but limited to ps premium game streaming at $18 @ month. And then if you have a ps5/pro no need to pay for premium just play gta 6 wherever you feel like within internet range once it comes out.
It's the new videochartz...
Edit to add: Nintendo will be making healthy hardware profits from day 1, I'll say at least 80 million at $300, 50 million at $400, 30 million at $500.

It's gonna depend on how they market it and if they can convince current owners to upgrade. Price point will be important. If they go heavily on cross gen titles, I don't think it will do very good. Most people will stick with their current model if they can just play the newest game on it.

It will not be anything close to the first Switch. I was fighting people off 8 years ago here saying the SW1 would be successful compared to the wiiu around -60m and I even way underestimated it. But I do not see this as a 100+m seller like the first one.

PRobably going to sell fewer units. Given it was a new concept. Given the pandemic gave it an extra boost. Given others are doing handheld consoles now. I doubt the audience can be expanded. Unless it's further into China or into new regions.
I wouldn't be surprised if 1st year sales are higher tho.
IN the end depends on the games. But they broke new ground or had such big iterations of their big franchises. Hard to see them topping those so soon with a similar system.

If success means matching the og switch, then it likely won't for a lot of reasons.

You have a point. I'm kinda hoping for them to make a serious splash with some serious games - I don't think any of the sorry handheld attempts from others are going to cut into this too much, but if it's just another spattering of same ole Mario Kart, same ole Mario and same ole Pokémon with a wave of late inferior third party ports, I definitely agree that enthusiasm won't be as high.
