Thought Trainwreck was pretty damn hilarious. Cena and Lebron were surprisingly good
Marvel will continue to make money but with DC looking to be getting things going right and Xmen and Star Wars on the horizon they certainly have competition. Ant-Man shows us that any random Marvel IP isn't guaranteed massive numbers.
You know that times are changing when 3 of the top 10 highest grossing films of the weekend worldwide are Chinese films only out in China.
Maybe, it might just be me but in the UK it feels like after all the HUGE hype for the film's release everyone quickly just forgot about this film =/
I wonder if Jurassic World will reach 1 billion.

Minions or Antman?
I'm not familiar with how the box office works, does Sunday not count? Or is this an estimate for the whole weekend?
Not really, it's just 1 film. Guardians made more than Supes.
Star Wars, yes of course.
DC has a lot to prove.
What's the deal with Inside Out's worldwide gross? Does it still have some major markets to launch in?

MoS made more money than every first phase movie outside of Avengers. Shit, it made more than Thor 2.

I enjoyed Ant-Man quite a bit but I'm not surprised it wasn't that big. Just anecdotally, but my theater was only half full at a pretty prime time, and very few of my friends had any interest at all when they're normally all about Marvel stuff.
Ant Man doesn't seem to be doing that well internationally as well
Any word on tracking for JW in Japan?
Interested to see if it will be able to hit $1bn just from international numbers
Wait - is Genisys gonna cross 100 mil domestic before its pulled?
People like to rag on about Guardians' marketing, but that Hooked on a Feeling trailer burrowed its way into far more people's minds than... Whatever the hell they were going for with Ant-Man.AM's marketing was a mess from the beginning. they tried to shove a movie about about a dude who can talk to insects and shrink to their size, as some epic new heroic entry in the MCU.

And was coming off Superman Returns which had toxic audience reception, but seems some love to spin it as a disappointment because it didn't gross Avengers level cash.MoS made more money than every first phase movie outside of Avengers. Shit, it made more than Thor 2.
This JW total is blowing my mind, is there something going on with that movie besides being a serviceable but interchangeable sequel to JP?
I don't know how anyone could think GotG's marketing was bad. "Hooked on a feeling" and the mugshot profiling sold it so, so well. (and I don't even like the movie that much)People like to rag on about Guardians' marketing, but that Hooked on a Feeling trailer burrowed its way into far more people's minds than... Is Genysis out in China already? Will it make more than Mad Max WW?
It's doing fairly well in comparison to some other MCU films as kswiston has pointed out. It still has a bunch of openings.
Sunday counts but all of it is just a pretty close estimate based on data collected. Actual numbers are released on Monday and adjustments are made.
those MCU films were released years ago when the international market was weaker and Marvel was not as well known compared to the juggernaut that it is now
anyway, i think this is just a matter of expectations. Any other $130m film that had had an opening weekend of $60m would have been seen as been doing reasonably ok but expectations are a lot higher for Marvel films now
Minions not that good? I like the minions in some ways, and Sandra Bullock, but bleh. Glad that Inside Out is doing pretty good.
You do realize though that Ant-Man is a B-tier superhero film though. A decade ago, b-tier comic films like Daredevil or Ghost Rider made about $200M worldwide. Even X-Men films were topping out in the $400M range. Ant-Man has a pretty good shot at outgrossing all of the X-films except Days of Future Past. Not hitting $700M doesn't make it a miss.

Decent numbers for Antman.
But that crow thread, holy shit was that embarrassing. It was more sad than funny.
So basically while I don't think a sequel is guaranteed I certainly don't think its out of the question either
I don't think Marvel launches IPs with the idea that they are going to be "B-tier" though. AntMan is far, far from a flop, my only concern would be if Marvel decides that similar movies won't be worth their time in the future and sticks to the formula even harder now to produce mega blockbusters.
We need a Rocket Raccoon solo movie..if Ant-Man can sell..
I'd personally love an Antman sequel. I can personally do without Thor standalones.
