No doubt there is some internal fuckup going on at Konami regarding this. Doesn't sound like a policy thing, that's for sure. There simply is no good reason not to let people preload. Someone fucked it up.

Fucking stupid as fuck, no doubt the game will have over 40gb of cutscenes to inflate the size at any rate.
They're real time! The audio takes up less space than MGS4 too apparently. Total game size is like 25-30gbs or something on PS4/XB1/PC and like under 12 or something on last gen

can someone tell me if the NZ unlock time is for everyone or if i need a VPN to unlock it. if yes, can someone tell me how this whole thing works? simply use a NZ VPN, steam will detect the IP address of NZ and start Preloading?

Yes, XB1 is even up I think, PS4 the sunday before it releases.

Sunday?? god dammit, I gotta move on Sunday :( why are they doing this to me... Not only is releasing on a bad day for me, but I was hoping I could at least preload it before I moved. Ill have some kind of internet where Im going, but I doubt it'll be a good speed like I have here.

Steam still hasn't updated the available time, if the new Zealand release is true

The time on the steam page is how long the pre-purchase period is. You can pre-purchase MGSV to get the prepurchase bonuses up until 10AM PST on Sept 1st. You can, however, download the game starting at 00:00 NZ time on September first (8:00 am Aug 31 EST) if you've already pre-ordered it.

Nice thanks for clearing that up!

Is this 100% confirmed now?

While not a GREAT example, preloading means you can still play day 1 despite that long ass download time

Wait. That's basically my connection speed, which means that if the game is 28GB i should be able to download it in 12-14 hours. While it's kinda shitty, i'm fine with that, especially if i can really start downloading the game at 00.00 NZ (2 pm in Italy).

Anyway we know that Steam downloads are often smaller than the full size of the game installed on the hdd, so maybe the dl will be a bit less than 28GB?

At best the game will probably be 20gigs on the download file.

I have 400kbp download speeds too so it's kinda awful.

For the people with really shit speeds, but who have access to a university campus or something -- what I've done with stupidly big downloads (i.e. 44GB Shadow of Mordor) is download the games on campus with the cray speeds they have there, either with a laptop or to an external drive, and then copy & paste the files onto my desktop in Steam\steamapps\common. Start the download on your home system, Steam will see you've got all files already and you're ready to go.

I'm getting the PC retail disc version then.

What you'll most likely find is that it has either only a download key in it, or a disc that installs about 25% of the game and then asks you to download the rest with a key.

If my computer can run Ground Zeroes comfortably, will I be good on The Phantom Pain? Can't decide between PC, PS3, or waiting until after X-mas for a PS4.

Preloading MGSV on Steam would cause Steam to crash.

It is that big.

They can't do it.

MGSV will be a big game. It's not that big though. The GAF hype doesn't translate to the rest of the Steam userbase I'm afraid.

MGS2 sold 7m worldwide, MGS3 3.6m and MGS4 4.3m. Good sales, but not Steam breaking by any measure.

How do I check if my MGS5 Nvidia code has all the Steam pre-order DLCs?

It should. I used an Nvidia code and have the pre-order stuff, except for a copy of GZ. To check, Go to the game in your steam library and the page should have DLC purchased and whether or not you want to install it.. otherwise right click on the game's name and look at properties there should be a DLC tab.

Welp, no luck, bought my code second hand, was there supposed to be a different code for dlc?

Edit: I have no DLC tab when I right click on Phantom Pain, also no tabs when I scroll down the library page

You get all the DLC, you don't get the free copy of GZ.

Yeah, I also have the game thanks to NVIDIA (and NewEgg) and I'm not seeing DLC listed and no properties option to check DLC.

Any new info on the NZ wide release?

It's still not clear what's to happen. Peeler's tweets are a little all over the place (there was a lively discussion about this in the Steam thread yesterday) and the game is still set to unlock at 10am PT worldwide, NZ included.

do we know exactly when I'll be able to click Download in the UK?
I'm leaving for a(nother) week in a hotel room on Tuesday morning at 6:30am & I'd like to bring my PC with a fresh copy of MGS already downloaded to play in the evenings. I really hope it launches at midnight or some point on monday

The game is available for download at 00:01 on Tuesday 1st September, New Zealand time. So it should be available for download from 12:00pm on Monday 31st August in the UK.

Except the game is still set to unlock worldwide at 10am PT and while Peeler answered in the affirmative that those outside of New Zealand will be able to download the game as well, he also said that the pre-order period will run until 10am PT, which not only directly contradicts the former comment but also further supports the current unlock time.

So... we still don't know?

It's been a while since I pre-ordered a game on steam but surely they don't normally leave them until 5:00pm to unlock on day of release? That's ridiculous.

EDIT: Or is that 5:00pm on the 31st, not the 1st? I don't know how to timezone.

Nope. If nothing changes, then it's 10am PT for everyone.

Games release at 10am PT by default since it's Valve that has to change release states of apps and 10am is when the store updates. Changing release states is still one of the very few things publishers can't just handle themselves using the Steam Partners frontend. At present, TPP is still 6 days, 22 hours and 10 minutes away.

Must wait and not buy the game twice( digital/physical)...I got my SE coming with release date delivery.

Question guys, how reliable is release date delivery from Amazon? I'm new to the states so this is new for me.

considering robert was asked specifically with the caveat of "i'm not in new zealand" (or thereabouts) when he answered the question for unlocking at NZ time, i think we're safely getting the start downloading when it goes live at midnight NZ time.
