AMD announces FSR4, available “only on Radeon RX 9070 series”

I want to to upgrade my 7900xtx for VR flight simming…. 5090 it is!

I’m not surprised that they will want to push adoption of these, but something in my gut is like “nope”. Maybe during the presentation they will offer some price and performance figures. If they don’t, and just wait for nvidia to do their CES presentation before dropping their own numbers then that tells you everything.

I am assuming the fsr 4 for Xbox is a joke ? Or this is a stunt move MS and AMD trying to pull to say MS has something against PSSR ?

Confused

AMD didn’t announce the price so they can wait and see what Nvidia will announce today and then go 100$ below what is directly competing with their card . Same typical move every time.

Also lol at FSR4 not working with 7000 series. They announce FSR4 been in development for more than 1 year few months back and don’t want to enable it for the 7000 series… talk about a shitty move not even Nvidia did pull.

Let’s hope it’s as good as DLSS2 because I am quite sure they are going to be murdered against DLSS4

They pick the worst price points every time, just cheaper than Nvidia but not enough that it’s a good value. And they wonder why people want AMD to be better so they can buy an Nvidia card at a better price.

I got a 7800xt on Black Friday that’s sitting unopened, ready to be returned.

Fellow BF Powercolor Fighter holiday return policy?

The Mac mini is an amazing machine but certainly not for gaming? I’ve got one and while the efficiency is unmatched, there are very few games available so I end up using cloud
I’m not planing on playing anything more complicated than Civ VII. I use PC gaming for its intended purpose: boring never ending games that got me hooked.

Considering how incredibly underwhelming FSR3 was, it's hard to get excited. I don't even understand why AMD hyped FSR 3. Public perception would be so much better if they just quietly released it as FSR2.2. It certainly looks more like 2.2 rather than 3.

but can be better, because RDNA4 have more tops + pc optimize
The problem
Is actually making use of those tops. The bandwidth requirements are currently insane (several TB/s hence why they are re-using the register files to hold data and trying to keep the algorithm running as close to a single roundtrip to memory and back as possible… fully fused network is what they are targeting but they are still not there)

I dont mind the 'exclusive' to 90 series route. But, if it turns out worse than DLSS 3, that won't end well. At the bare minimum, they've gotta match NV.

They know that right.. ?

lol why would anyone even want this? Even the early versions of DLSS destroy FSR3 in image quality and performance gains.

You are not limited to the RTX 4000. This mod allows you to use previous generations, GTX 1600, RTX 2000 and RTX 3000 series.

DLSS3/FSR3 refer to the frame generator.

According to Nvidia, only the RTX 4000 hardware was capable of this, but obviously that was bullshit.

Is it?

You can bench optical flow on Ampere and Turing if you want

They perform vastly worse than Ada.

Could they have taken shortcuts and make a more glitchy version for previous cards? Sure. But look how peoples already look through the microscope anything Nvidia does, frame by frame and critique the tech, while AMD gets a "aawww, that's cute, 2 years late but it's ok if its glitchy, good effort"

Given the popularity of the FSR3 framegen in mods I see out there, I don't think most people care much.
The issue is that Nvidia always forces the upgrade. The RTX 3000 sold a lot and as the performance gain for the RTX 4000 was not very large, it was necessary to create this gimmick to give reasons to upgrade.

It does not matter man. The public perceptions is cemented now, and no one can be persuaded anymore. Look at response #79 and extrapolate from there.

I cant keep up with these numbered names anymore 😩
Yea, its BS how they lump everything under a single buzzword.

DLSS 1.0: pure ML upscaler
DLSS 2.0: pure ML upscaler. w/ TAA motion vector cleanup
DLSS 3.0: pure ML upscaler. w/ TAA motion vecotr cleanup. w/ 2-frame interpolation insertion
DLSS 3.5: pure ML upscaler. w/ TAA motion vecotr cleanup. w/ 2-frame interpolation insertion, w/ RT de-noiser
DLSS 4.0: who knows? maybe the kitchen sink.

FSR3 is inferior not only in image quality but also in frame stability as it literally turns off if there are too many changes from one frame to the next, like during fast camera motion.

releasing a lower quality DLSS frame gen would probably be identical in quality to FSR3 frame gen, which I yet have to have a single good experience with, as every time I tested it in anything it was either just about tolerable, or it was straight unusably bad.

but especially now a downgraded DLSS frame gen would be basically obsolete anyway as FSR frame gen already fulfills this functionality... and doesn't do it all that well.
