AMD is sidelining its RX 6xxx series and 7xxx due to FSR 4 being only supported on the RX 9xxx series while DLSS 4 is supported on RTX gens.

Tim from Hardware Unboxed asked about an assumption based on a footnote that might have suggested that FSR4 was going to be 9070 exclusive (or minimum) and asked for clarity. David stated that there’s nothing about FSR4 that makes it exclusive to a specific model - the RDNA4 updates include better MLOps that makes technology like FSR4 a lot better than it would have been. We should expect AMD, as it rolls out FSR4, to lean into the Navi 4 architecture capabilities. Tim then asked for confirmation that FSR4 would improve performance, and David confirmed that compared to the analytical approach of FSR3, it’s a significant improvement.

DLSS 4 is an update to great existing tech.
FSR4 is made from scratch using different tech and new hardware cause previous version sucked. Now AMD can begin competing with NVIDIA and Intel upscaling
Maybe they should have called it something other than FSR4 if it's so new that it won't support any of the cards it did previously. That's why I believe there has to be a WMMA path for FSR4 because anything else wouldn't make sense.

I can already see this video aging poorly.

Hardware Unboxed really are Radeon shills, I almost want AMD to have a good GPU just so HUB can finally have a win and not sound desperate to be excited.

If Sony can run PSSR/FSR4 lite on PS5 Pro, then no reason why it can’t run on at least the 7000 series. As far as I read, PSSR isn’t using RDNA4 AI tech.

Of course Nvidia shills like Digital Foundry will be foaming at the mouth and release a dozen videos crying about it but who cares? An insignificant portion of PC gamers watches their videos.
To be fair DF is a joke, they said PSSR was as good as DLSS and it IS worse than FSR and always contradict themselves, I would be a fool to trust them.

You are so delusional, it hurts.
HUB does objective reviews with white being white and black black.
They don't get "super early preview" cards, unlike that PF shill bitches either.
They piss on AMD cookies a lot.

In fact it is specifically HUB that has the most comprehensive "DLSS is better than FSR" review available on youtube.

I keed, I keed.
Im sure the RX 9070XT is gonna be an amazing card and FSR4 will achieve wonders.
Whether it actually works on prior generations at launch........nah i dont see it.

Tim from Hardware Unboxed did speak to AMD and they sort of hinted that FSR 4 will be backported to older generation RNDA. But will be on 9070 series on launch.

Edit: Ah was beaten to it.

There is exactly 0 evidence hinting at that.

As for butthurts, greenboi keep forgetting that anus entanglement that they have with Huang is their specific feature, it does not necessarily work the same way with people that do not share the green orgasms with them.

As some others have said, you can't patch in AI cores. FSR4 is finally using proper 'ML Upscaling'

That requires a specific hardware design that Nvidia has been doing since the RTX 20 series, that AMD is now finally catching up to.

It's a bummer, but there's no way around this. If you want AMD to compete with Nvidia in this space, this had to happen.

I don't think DF ever said PSSR was as good as DLSS, since right from the start they pointed out the temporal instability present in PSSR but not DLSS.

I'm far from an Nvidia fanboy, I had an RX 6800 for a couple of years recently because I genuinely thought it was the best PFP product at the time, but AMD are probably going to get mauled this next gen.

They realised last year that they couldn't compete with Nvidia anymore at the high-end so targeted the mid-range product stack instead, and now with the RTX 5070 RRP and potential performance, it's likely going to destroy them on the mid-range ones as well.

Competition is good, and AMD will probably own the CPU market in a decade if trends continue, but the industry needs a proper competitor in the GPU space.

There probably won't be much of an x86 CPU market left in a decade

Both Intel and AMD have nothing going on with ARM so the future is bleak for both companies in that regard
