I think we had a similar topic already...

I'm gonna buy one when the next zelda open world is out or if metroid prime 4 look unmissable or if they reveal an unmissable third party of my liking like a new monster hunter just for sw2.

There are some Nintendo games i'd buy if they came to PC, but I'm not going to buy hardware I don't want just to play them. What's a Switch 2 as a platform getting me that I don't already have in better form on the Steam Deck?

Nintendo games?

You buy Nintendo hardware to play Nintendo games. That's how it's always been.

No, it actually makes perfect sense. Most of us have bought every Nintendo console that has ever been released. Over 75% of this board is currently answering YES we want to buy Switch 2. Lord willing, over 75% of us will be buying this when it comes out. How is that crazy, my man?

Seems like most of the comments are the mad 25% who always hated Nintendo and never gave them a chance. My bet is that most of those 25% grew up during the Playstation generation and did not have a Nintendo when they were a kid. If they did, they would be part of the 75%. They are just too young to appreciate what Nintendo actually is. Not caring for Nintendo and calling yourself a gamer is crazy.
I mean… it’s going to be more powerful than Switch 1, it will have first party Nintendo games from franchises we love, and it’s backwards compatible. It’s not like this is some mystery device from an unproven company. Makes total sense to buy it day 1 for Nintendo fans.

Really depends on the games though. I really disliked the switch, was my least favorite Nintendo console ever and the new one seems like much of the same. I'll probably get one once a good number of games are out after a year or 2.

Maybe? I don't really see the need now. Maybe if the new Mario or Zelda looks good and it doesn't work on Switch 1 (which I'm assuming will be the case) I'll get it.

A platform includes games though. So I'm confused by what you're saying.

Are you asking what Switch 2 offers over a Steam Deck from a hardware perspective?
I addressed Nintendo games first, so I don't think the post was confusing.

It's not only hardware, it's also the system functionality. Nintendo is not only deficient in graphics horsepower. They're also really bad at online connectivity.

Wanted to get a Switch for a year and a half but didn't want to pay launch price with Switch 2 so close. I may get this but now I'm eyeing Steam handhelds.

Yeah. Switch for Nintendo games, PC for everything else.

Sure maybe you just have different tastes, but honestly that's a woke snowflake mindset imho. We aren't special. We all have the same tastebuds. I've played your games and found them lacking. I need Nintendo to soothe the savage beast inside me.
I was playing Nintendo before you were born. But this is 2025, you’re just blindly following a company. Has nothing to do with Nintendo. And woke snowflake for saying you should know a product before just blindly buying? Lmao.

Let’s just be ridiculous and say if it’s revealed no backwards compat, same graphics as switch 1, 90$ games, and it’s 900$. You still just throwing our money at it? All I’m saying is fucking wait to see what the thing is before just blindly following a brand. Look at the ps5 pro, how many people changed their mind once it was actually revealed)

At potentially upwards of $650CAD?...nope. Certainly not anytime in it's early lifecycle...

Might just look for a used Switch 1 OLED honestly...

I usually buy Nintendo's consoles at the end of their life cycle or after. Switch being the exception (bought it 2021). Switch 2 feels like what Switch Pro should've been if they had decided to make one. Nothing that interests me out of the gate, but we'll have to wait for the games and the price of the thing, obviously.

I usually get Nintendo stuff for my wife but she said not to get the new one, as she barely uses it. She uses her PS5 more for astro and ratchet. She wasn't too impressed with the recent Mario games.
She loves animal crossing, maybe if there is a new one of those?

Hardware looks like ass, as all handhelds made by them ever since they abandoned the GameBoy line. So for a customer like me, they're 100% relying on the software, which we haven't seen anything of, yet. I don't care for AC, Mario, Zelda or Pokemon. The next MK seems to be shit, but I'll reserve my judgement for later. If they announce an F-Zero, WaveRace, 1080 Snowboarding or something the like I'm in.

I love the whole concept with the switch it's the reason I got the first one. What I quickly realized is I'm not a Nintendo guy. Other than the Xenoblade chronicles 2 I didn't really enjoy any other game I got on that system. I basically just played and beat the games I did get because I was playing during my lunch time. It must be how Xbox players feel about PS 1st party. They understand a lot of people love it but they just aren't into it.

After how boring Nintendo was in the switch era and with how the switch 2 announcement seems to be doubling down on low effort, lazy Nintendo I see no reason to buy one anytime soon. I only got a Switch because of deadly premonition 2 and Dread but seeing as DP3 isn't happening and I'm done with Metroid I can't imagine what could get me to buy a Switch 2. Most of my switch library is retro game collections and I don't really need to upgrade for those.

Why do we keep making these threads when we have no idea what launch games are?

I can't seriously take a guess without knowing.

I will definitely have it one day, I won't be able to resist Metroid Prime 4 or the following Zelda & Xenoblade sequels, nor mario 3d. But if at launch its MK9 only from their side... I can wait. I certainly won't be fighting scalpers and bots to get one.

Yep 100%, I'll do whatever is necessary. Would be interesting to see what this poll looks like after April 2nd when they presumably reveal a bunch of exclusive games too.

Does anybody know if the memory cards we use for the Switch 1 are compatible with the Switch 2? All of my games are digital, so I have a large memory card I purchased and would hate to need to buy another large memory card just to move my games.

If we get an up rez and a stable 60 on Zelda everything else is gravy for me. I had to stop playing because of how shit it ran, looking forward to picking it up again. Don't let me down Nintendo.

It takes Switch carts so I don't see why they'd change the storage. It was just SD cards right?

I don't follow? Its a hardware reveal. What were you expecting to be new and exciting? And how do you know what they've got cooking?
Its clear they went the safest route possible (understandibly so)

And if they had been cooking anything exciting, we would have heard it 6 months ago in the leaks.

What we got is a Switch with bigger screen and underwhelming specs.

So nothing exciting for me.
