It depends on price and launch window titles as to how early I buy in.

Getting one eventually is inevitable unless Nintendo pulls a Sony and starts putting everything on PC.

Launch window since I believe won't be released in Brazil on the same date

Outside of that, Mario Kart 9 and Metroid Prime 4 at launch? Tears of the Kingdom at 60fps? GTA VI maybe? Sign the hell of me for day one. I'm hyped as shit

No.

I haven't loved any core Nintendo console since the Gamecube. The Wii era had a lot of disappointment for me with most core Nintendo franchises getting worse outside of maybe Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart 7. Zelda got worse, Animal Crossing got worse, Metroid got worse, etc. Since then a lot of stuff has just felt stale and even the stuff that's really well polished is kinda the same old same old (Mario Kart / Smash). There's the odd game that seems like a fresh step in a new direction (Metroid Dread, Bowser's Fury, etc) but it's not enough to move me on buying into the ecosystem again.

Nintendo is also really arrogant about their pricing models these days as well so the idea that I pick up a Switch 2 down the road and a bunch of games at $30 each isn't gonna happen. Nintendo will keep all their 7-8 year old titles at full price so the value proposition is terrible compared to any other gaming options out there.

Maybe. Price, timing, launch games all need to be known. Curious whether there will be frame rate or upscaling benefits to backwards compatible games without an extra charge. Also want to know if there will be a fun hook to it that differentiates it from the original Switch. I have a Steam Deck now so this would be for local coop and Nintendo exclusives mainly.

Anyone voting yes with literally no info on the console is crazy

edit all I’m saying is don’t be a Nintendo addict and wait and make them earn your money

Eh.

Nintendo have, very wisely, built up a collection of exclusive IP that they release regularly enough.

If you like any of those IP, then it really doesn't matter when you buy the console.

Now, exclusive IP alone isn't enough for a successful product, as the Wii U showed. But Nintendo haven't exactly rocked the boat here.

Eventually, I will own one. Some day. Mostly because they seem to be ticking most of my boxes -- comprehensive backwards compatibility within Switch ecosystem, and a good update in terms of power. Only major miss is OLED screen. That said, I still need a killer app. Or perhaps even two.

I'll cave earlier if there's an amazing-looking Mario 64-style game, and also maybe a really compelling Zelda (not BOTW-inspired) OR a Metroid Dread sequel. That would be what it takes... if it launched with those 2 games, I'd very likely buy it at launch.

Mario Kart and Metroid Prime 4 (not that we even know when this will be out) do not even come close to counting as games that I personally must play immediately. And it took until Metroid Dread for me to get the original Switch. Since I doubt they are straying from BOTW Zelda, and it might be a minute for Dread 2, and their Mario games aren't as good as 64 these days... it might be awhile for me to get this system, too.

But if in some amount of time (2-2.5 years?) we have Mario Odyssey 2 and Dread 2... and also I can finally get to MP4 & Mario Kart, at that point, it's must-buy for me.
