Nice Trojan horse strategy get all the ps users hooked on their games and then pull the rug right underneath them.
Cracking Up Lol GIF

I think you're confused on who's about to be rug pulled.

It's pretty clear.

If the 64% from Playstation is an indication of how things will be going from here, imagine if they lose Playstation as a platform

I highly doubt shareholders would be happy about that.
That's nice but 1 year ago Microsoft was doomed according to this forum.

This industry changes quickly and is going to reinvent. Sony needs to watch out. They are making the mistakes Microsoft already made.

Xbox's situation is ironic, from wanting to take Playstation out of the market to having the console dead and depending on PS5 users buying games because they themselves have ruined software sales with the GP.
I think it's a co-dependency. Sony also relies on CoD and other IPs under Microsofts umbrella.

So if I am understanding the narrative of XBOX correctly they want to be the STEAM of the console space and just put the games out on whatever can play them or is this a more sinister move... like give everyone the games they want for a few years and then have a change at the top and the NEW head of Xbox says that all the games you have been playing are now exclusive to the "XBOX OS" client that can be installed on certain devices including the NEXT GEN XBOX SURFACE X?

(Sorry if it sounds like I'm taking out of my ass it's just hard to follow the XBOX messaging this gen)

Well of course they're the biggest. They now own CoD and every other trash that Gen Z and millennial casuals are buying in droves.

If I were Sony I'd charge a higher platform fee /commission rate for games from Microsoft being listed on the store.

Remember Microsoft's intentions from the email leaks, they want to outspend Sony out of business.

As for Microsoft, this is the perfect Trojan horse to owning the whole industry.

They'll take EA next.

Sony needs to respond by taking Square Enix and Capcom.

Where my PC bros at? Surely yall aren't gamepass people? I thought you were cool.

I guess all MS plans are for naught becasue even if they do overtake steam, apparently PC gamers don't buy games. Even the super small PS5 userbase can vastly outspend the PC one when it comes to MS games.

The problem with PC ever being a major player and getting GTA on day 1 is that PC gamers don't buy new games, full priced games, and will need to be locked down with Denuvo to prevent people from just stealing the game and playing it for free. The day PC players can get over trying to nickel and dime the industry for content will be the day we no longer need Sony. That day will never come. The reason we have to suffer f2p games is because of you.

Oh No Baby! What Is You Doin?

PS users have been playing Call of Duty for years.
it's going to be alot more than just call of duty and they never took it away. If ms were to become like playstaions number 1 pub for the next 10 years it'll be interesting to see how people would react if the games were to suddenly go away after that and be a pc or nintendo exclusive.

I'd love to see them try. That'll probably be the end of COD, as it's already on a decline.

It's also why Sony is after their own live-service games and why Jim Ryan secured the 10 year COD-deal.

They still make considerably more $ percentage wise on Xbox players so that's probably their most valued customer. Just sayin.
I doubt it. Game Pass does not have enough subscribers / revenue (only 10-15% of Xbox's division total revenue). And they sell hardware at a loss.

Most of their profitability, if any, must be coming from PlayStation.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Is the Best-Selling Game of 2024 in the U.S.

It's a return to the top for Call of Duty after Hogwarts Legacy took No.1. spot last year.

Jim Ryan didnt force the deal, LOL. It was CMA

Microsoft will get so much money selling games that they will keep doing hardware even at lost and they wont care if the hardware sales are bad because the core bussiness are games.

This %64 PS percentage will only increase with time imo. They haven't released the big 3 Xbox franchises + Starfield on there yet.

You also have to factor storewide sales here (PS and Steam both had a big one in December), this revenue is depressed by anywhere between %15-40 depending on the game.

Most of their profitability, if any, must be coming from PlayStation.
What's shocking to me is how low PC is in that split.

From memory, I recall how Activision Blizzard used to have PC as its highest revenue platform. They still haven't really released any big Bethesda titles since they bought them either (only HiFi Rush so far, right?).

So did the PC revenue flatline or what?

Microsoft will get so much money selling games that they will keep doing hardware even at lost and they wont care if the hardware sales are bad because the core bussiness are games.
If current trends persist, the Xbox hardware will become a pure cost center for Microsoft and Nadella will jettison it or make drastic cuts.

I wonder how first party Sony games sales stack up against Call of Duty profits on PlayStation.

Did Sony profit more from their own games, or from Call of Duty and its microstransactions?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Concord, Until Dawn remake and Lego Horizon have all seemingly bombed, with Concord sinking $400m or so, and Astro, while good, didn't burn the charts .. so very likely not.

CoD came out at the end of October and became the top selling game in just a little over 2 months, for reference.

This is why PS is trying to make GAAS titles.

It all makes sense now. They seem overly concerned about this.
None of you stop to think that revenue from PC and Xbox might be declining, hence why Playstation share is increasing?

It's not like those PS gamers on COD never existed before MS bought ABK.

They were always Xbox gamers. They just didn’t know it yet.

They have been exclusive (except for PC) until recently. They bought two multiplat publishers and they can't take away CoD for a long while yet (and it would be fucked without PS). The 64% is from CoD "It also includes the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which launched in December." Indiana Jones hasn't launched on PS5.

If Microsoft are that stupid and want to lose money, sure. Because that’s not the case, this will forever be a zealot’s dream and nothing else.
