Chris Dring: Microsoft was the No.1 games publisher in the world last month | 64% of spend on Microsoft games in December came on PlayStation devices

Time and time again this forum has been bitching and whining about Microsoft. But when I said multiple times that going 3rd party was a win for everyone and that they were going to be the biggest publisher around, I was laughed at.

Without Microsoft Sony players (me included) have almost nothing to look forward too. Everybody wins here.
You're telling me MS bought the biggest publisher around and now MS is the biggest publisher around for the month or so their biggest game released?

I'm going to hazard a guess and say whoever it was laughing at you was laughing about your takes rather than that fact.

Crazy reading some of the lost posts in here. Microsoft doesn’t need PlayStation? Just “its players”. Whatever semantic you need to sleep easier, but the numbers don’t lie. Without PlayStation, COD wouldn’t be where it is and Microsoft’s position as a 3rd Party publisher wouldn’t be what it is. Trying to shit on Astrobot doesn’t change that.

Pulling the rug on billions in revenue each year after spending nearly $100B in acquisitions is the quickest way to kill your brand and set $100B on fire

Not going to happen. But the fantasizing of MS doing such a braindead business move at this point is hilarious coming from some of their delusional fanbase

Pretty much the only takeaway from this
That and that Xbox games likely sell more on PlayStation than PlayStation first party games too.

And it doesn't really seem to be paying off if spending on non-playstation platforms is declining, while not boosting GP subs in a significant way, if at all.
It’s an investment. Takes time. Could have been worse, like buying the studio Firewalk.

I wonder how first party Sony games sales stack up against Call of Duty profits on PlayStation.

Did Sony profit more from their own games, or from Call of Duty and its microstransactions?

I think Sony makes way more on third party royalties, PS+ subs, and money from PSN transactions. That explains why software wise, they’ve been extremely lazy the last two gens. That’s also why MS will fight off dropping Xbox hardware as long as possible. Their own ecosystem they control where they get all those royalties and subs and digital cuts is way too enticing. But the next hardware won’t be cheap, they’ll have to offset lowered sales projections with a higher price tag.

Fully explains Microsoft's No Red Lines strategy.

Wild that Playstation went from being Microsoft's biggest competition to the entity keeping the lights on at Microsoft studios.

They need Playstation to keep the MS gaming division running.

Ironically as MS embraces their new third party role Xbox will become more and more irrelevant as its replaced by Playstation until it ceases to exist.

You’re confusing Microsoft with Xbox.

You do know the Microsoft has like, a shit ton more money than Sony, right?

When I say MS studios I mean Microsoft Gaming Studios aka. Xbox game Studios + Activision.

It has nothing to do with MS' size as a company. MS is several times richer than Sony but they still want a return on their $70 Billion Activision investment and if they get no return they shut everything down. Playstation is ensuring they get a return on that investment hence my statement

I do agree MS is releasing a lot of games but honestly without MS I'm still doing fine. There is to much to play for me right now. KCD2, DS2, Ghost, Trails through daybreak 2, AC Shadows, GTA 6, MH wilds, Ender Lillies sequel. That's just off the top of my head. On top of that I can guarantee you I wont get to all those games this year and this doesn't even include my backlog which is massive.

This is why I don't care about Sony and their first party output. I'm overwhelmed right now.

Which can easily be brought to other side by pulling a rug.

Lol yep I see this the new narrative being spun up by Xbox fans. This is a 4D chess move by MS.

Give a rundown of the games they put out in the PS3 era vs PS4 and 5s

How’s all that Microsoft money working out for the Xbox platform?

Then why have we not fallen for the rug pull up to now? That is one of Xbox’s problems. There is no magic to this. Nobody has to be conned. Just put out good games and people will play them. If they had been doing that all along instead of sending mixed signals about Xbox/Game Pass I believe they would be in much better shape on the hardware side.
