Yeah, we get it. Ff7 looks much better, I've been Reading the same thing for a good 2 weeks. Now what about all the other games, especially those which look trash in perf mode? (Looking at you Alan wake 2)
I think it's safe to say that Alan Wake 2 is going to look much better too

He's apparently one of the few who actually really cares about PC gaming and wants it to be perfect, instead of pretending in front of others there are no issues just to feed into some sort of superiority complex. Something many PCMR types unfortunately suffer from.
The thing is, he's ranting about the subject on a video about PS5 Pro, and - why as a PS5 gamer (not planning to buy a Pro at launch, maybe later) is this relevant to me? "Consumers could make it really well known that is not acceptable to release PC games the way that they are released." Like really, Alex. I DGAF. Not all of us do.

Oh trust me, I've encountered some master race clowns and they can't handle ANY PC criticism. Some take it personally too!

John is by far the least biased of all and have the receipts showing the brass at Xbox knew this

Also remember not long ago how they all thought the idea of a PS5 Pro was stupid?
I’m curious, I’ve heard it mentioned before that you broke this story as it were. Do you mind linking back to it so people can see your full stated context?

- John about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: I famously tweeted about it being a huge leap, and it was actually even larger than I anticipated. It genuinely is game changing.
This is the kind of enhancement I hope to see, the games that really struggled with the base model. Not some fancy RT reflection resolution bump that will be hardly noticed in real gameplay session.

The mental gymnastics Alex plays are infuriating. $700 for the full package is deemed "expensive" territory when it's a console, but if we're talking about needing $550 for just an equivalent GPU (sans all the other components needed to match the Pro), then suddenly that's somehow a better value proposition. "But my PC can do so much more!" - fuck off, we're talking about gaming.

It’s not a video about the Pro. It’s a clip from DF Direct where they talk about various subjects. In that section, they were talking about John’s impressions. They trimmed it and uploaded it as a standalone video.

PS4 Pro was needed because PS4 looked bad on 4k tvs, that was the logic for this console to exist. There is nothing like that now and I think that's why there were surprised by the rumors (most of gaf was as well).

Looking at abysmal image quality of some games - of course better hardware was needed. But those games also shouldn't be released in state like that in the first place, no one at development studios should say "yeah FSR2 720p to 4k - looks great!".

If you want high end visuals at a blistering 60fps and no st stuttering issues it's time to turn that amateur card in and become a pro

Its mostly personal chat logs between me and some people pretty far up the food chains and no way I would share it publicly as there is too much personal info like chatting back and forth about visiting places to see things thus home addresses and phone numbers and even salaries of people

It wasn't so much of a story as proving to the mods here what was said back then and they let me say some stuff without smacking me around too much

I'm aware. It's the segment that has to do with John's experience with the Pro/PSSR. It has nothing to do with PC. Why should a discussion about the Pro include PC?

They sit for 2 hours talking about a bunch of things. They’re bound to go on tangents. Your complaint is ridiculous.
It's about an hour, tops. And they specifically cut these different pieces to reach more targeted audiences (or for more views, your call). This specific clip was about Pro/PSSR. And Alex says I'd have to do some kind of consumer advocacy for him. Well, fuck no. Also, fuck him. Not in a pleasant way.

Edit: OK, the last episode was about two hours. My point about Alex not contributing anything still stands.

He was directly asked for, though.
It all started with a user question regarding PS5 Pro being a good place to experience some games suffering on PC, and Rich wanted Alex to comment on the matter.

This is such a self defeating argument I’m shocked (not shocked) to see it still being made.

Image quality is image quality, period. If PS4 ‘wasn’t looking good on 4K sets’ then why is the PS5 Pro any different in dramatically boosting image quality on current 4K displays.

You make two subsequent claims to try and paper over the need for Pro

‘well the current games that are 720P to 4K FSR2 shouldn’t have been released in this state’

And

‘no one at development studios should say "yeah FSR2 720p to 4k - looks great!"’

Isn’t that nothing but a tacit admission that the PS5 Pro is needed.

Yeah, yeah it is.

It’s ludicrous to say that these issues are just lazy devs. Even if it was that doesn’t change the reality for the end user.

Here’s what they care about: My image quality was bad before and now it isn’t just like the PS4Pro jump.

But we largely agree on the reason right? FSR2 falls apart at lower resolutions, to say nothing of the disoclusion and ghosting issues.

And the reason games are coming out with sub 1080P internal resolutions? *Everyone* will talk about how devs are all on Unreal Engine 5.X and the engine itself is still posing a massive problem for developers because of Epics lack of optimizations.

So you can piss and moan about ‘well XYZ game shouldn’t be released in this state’

But while you’re at it don’t piss on people and tell them it’s raining.

And that’s not even getting into how the Pro is offering a bigger jump than what the prior mid Gen upgrades could offer.

Completely understandable. I hate to ask but do you mind summarizing? If not I understand. You’re under no obligation. Thanks for the context.
This you?

I would have to look at my chat logs on my other pc in Indiana to get it exactly right

But like I say Xbox targeted DF to be "pro Xbox" and give positive affinity (I think was the term used) by giving them exclusive access to hardware

It's not, you had 2x and 4x jumps in resolutions in games on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. You talk about perceived image quality thanks to PSSR ML reconstruction (while base res is the same in some games).

PS4 was never designed to look good on 4k tvs, it was released in 1080p era and looked perfectly fine on tvs like that, while PS5 was in 4K world from day one with 120hz 4K support (even with 8k sticker on the box).

Developers set targets to their games and we can have game with native 8k resolution (The Touryst) and 720p game running on the same hardware. Some developers just didn't care about "this console should look good on 4k tv" and released games that would look questionable even on 1080p tvs. Pro will fix this to some extend as long as native resolution isn't too low.

Wasn't this pretty much assumed ever since x360 anyway?

Yeah. PS5 Pro is too expensive. Mainly due to the fucked up economy and cost of living we're in the middle of right now.

But judging stuff like this based on screenshots and compressed youtube streams is always going to be unreliable. Unfortunately there's not a lot of other options for us, the masses, to go on ahead of that. And - at least where I am - demo stations in stores aren't really a thing anymore.
