Most animation quality complaints are nitpicks and ideally there wouldn't be any, but I'm always happy to see complaints against Arc animations, because they are just as "bad" as whatever else, but with swoosh graphics obscuring the reusage of frames.

I'm glad I can't sympathize with the criticisms of the GG series' animation quality. The games animate beautifully to me, with a distinctive anime flair that I appreciate.

It seems their animation style is more about being practical than aesthetically pleasing. I mean the games animated as intended.

I've seen the occasional 720p Nico Nico video for UNIB, and I've also seen 720p 60fps Nico Nico videos. I wonder why that quality is so scarce. Maybe you have to be a premium member or something.

I think it's cool if they do other games too, but Marvel is where HoC really shines.

What's the deal with "kidnap" anyway? Is that the official name for one of Firebrand's moves, or a nickname people came up with?

Some people actually prefer fighters that animate this way, myself included. It makes it easier to visualize when a move is active and what its hitbox should be.

That's the nickname of Bon Voyage, the move where he dive towards you horizontally and then drags you across the ground into a wall bounce.

Because of its generous hit box, it hits you out of nowhere sometime taking you by surprise.

Someone should gif that last portion of the video for posterity.

I'm fine with how GG animates, and I'm fine with how SF4 animates.
I'm NOT fine with how NRS games animate, though...

So landlord tells me to find a place within 60 days

I find a really good place better than my current place for the same price first try within 3 days of them telling me that.

I tell landlord, they get mad saying I'm a scumbag for leaving so early after they were nice enough to give me a 60 day warning.

WHAT THE FUCK? LOL

ASW animation is actually really good for fighting game players. Casuals might find it bad though I guess. :p

They're just jealous.
-and apparently unaware of the availability of decent living spaces where you live.

And yeah namco has some good damn animators.
Tekken and SC always bring me back because of that

Yeah the guy was really nice too, he works on homes and stuff for a job so he was willing to do some mods to the stuff I would be using so it would be easier for me to use.

and I'm sitting there thinking why the fuck would I pass this up.

So I am guessing the crazy moment Mike Ross and Gootecks talked about on Excellent Adventures is probably going to happen today. I think Xian might somehow pull it out against Alioune.

If not, there is always tomorrow.

I agree that NRS animation is very rubbery and bad
I think VF animation is not particularly outstanding, except maybe 3, everything is so fluid in that game.

MK9 animates the way it does for legacy reasons. Using a different animation style would require a major overhaul of MK gameplay.

Keeping that animation style for Injustice is an odd choice though. I guess it's a combination of trying to cater to the MK audience and NRS just being used to doing things that way. I saw an interview where one of the NRS guys talked about wanting to put fatalities in Injustice just because that's how they normally do things.

Maybe they were talking about the Alioune Juri pick.

SFIV has the best KO animations going. Game goes into slow down and the models transition from hit into collapse for the loser and standing for the victor. It looks great.

Contrast with the awful KO animations in KI and Injustice. Just looks terrible when you land the hit and then they do a stock fall animation afterward. Doesn't look like they were knocked out, instead it's more like "oops my life bar is out, time to fall down." I don't know why they haven't tried to figure that.

Can you get him to manufacture a fake feud so that you can get EVO funds? :p

HAHAHA No sadly I don't think so.

How do you mean?
Like how stiff the characters are for the most part. Like with Tekken and Soul Calibur the characters have really good full body movement with everything they do.

Edit: Like I don't know how I can describe it other than it looks like 2 robots fighting each other

i really enjoy marvel 3's animations

like, a lot

i really abused the z-axis glitch alot and i wish there was more comprehensive footage on it- like literally everything in that game is just astoundingly well animated and full of personality

the only vids available are for supers, which aren't as nice as the normals animation and really low quality vids of a few

if i ever get a capture card i will make it my mission to capture taskmaster's animations with the z-axis glitch by removing my HD and playing off the game disc because dude his are sooooo nice

the animation on his st.m is so, so, nice

Yea I am sometimes perplexed by the animations in MVC3... almost hypnotized at times.

Only Vergil is stiff in the game, that combined with his stop makes him stand out among the rest but they still did a fine job with him. Still has the godliest of god LVL3s..

I never understood why meter strategy changed so much in people's minds once this trap was removed. If you play Ryu, your super is still super effective, as it's more versatile in terms of how you can connect with it vs. U1 (e.g. you can combo into it more easily, air tatsu into it).

It's true that Super is easier to connect but Ryu needs to use his meter to. EX fireballs stop focus or approach, FADC to make SRK's safe, and EX tatsu can blow up crouch tech and give him max damage Ultra combos in the corner. But the main reason why people stopped saving for Super is because it lost utility.

Back in Vanilla, having the super stopped certain things and forced characters to block. Chun and Abel couldn't just focus my fireballs to build Ultra and then run away to recover their life. If they want Ultra, they'll have to lose life to gain it. Honda couldn't do neutral jump stop sign all day, Sagat and other fireball characters may have to stop throwing fireballs if their down in life. I normally didn't want to use it until my opponents were down to at least half life because it didn't do that much damage. The threat of it was just too good as it was free chip damage and stopped certain options. It was really good and really cheap.

Once it lost that utility and went back to something that you only use to combo into, it wasn't as important as using meter for EX moves.

The only stiff thing in tekken is just walking. Watching jin walk forward is like watching a little kid tip toe across the street.

It doesn't straight up look bad, it's good. I'm just saying compared to SC or Tekken it feels robotic. I guess lifeless is another word I could use. Like if I could program a perfect martial arts robot with no emotion to perform perfectly it would be the characters in VF

This sounds more like a complaint about character design than animation, to me - and it's not a new complaint about the series, although IMO the character design is quite good, just a slow burn.

Not fair. VF has had some of the best 'realistic' animations of most fighting games ever. Also the best use of motion blur.

Max play VF with me :)

It's one of the many problem with the animation prowess of Boone and his gang. :/ You just don't get the impression that anyone at NRS actually as a clue about physical combat given how the characters fight in an artificial way with no sense of physical logic.

Even if MvC features super powered characters, it's easier to buy how they fight because the way they chain moves make some sense physically (even sentinel doing a flying body splash :p).
