I don't think the RPG will just be about the world of South Park.

Trey and Matt work best when they pick a target and lampoon this ever-living fuck out of it. The fact that they are making the game an RPG and are working with Obsidian is quite telling.

I could be wrong, but I'm expecting a hardcore RPG, set in the South Park universe, that's largely about...lampooning other hardcore RPGs.

And the thought is seriously making me wet.

Check out the Imaginationland Episodes (what the art on the Game Informer is from.) Then there is also the Let's Play with Weapons episode which riffs on anime and of course their recent Cthulhu/super hero episodes. A lot of fantasy and sci-fi stuff for them to draw on. It's not just about a quite little redneck town.

Towards the beginning of the game you have control of Butters and he's punished. Escape to meet Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and the new kid(You)!

At some point in the game Kenny inevitably dies. (progression Achievement: You Bastard!)
A little ways further into the game, Kenny is back with no explanation or acknowledgement.

:Quest involving getting Cartman's mom to have sex with someone in order to obtain something.
:Tracking underpants gnomes, ends with partial share in business and steady cash inflow.
:Cheesy Puffs regenerate health
:play a football game as the South Park Cows.
:Go hunting with Jim and Ned.


Just off the top of my head and I'm not even creative. The game is definitely there to be made.

I hope it lampoons other games in general. The gaming landscape seriously lacks some good satire

Have Obsidian or South Park done something awful to warrant the reactions in this thread? I feel like I'm missing something.

I don't see how you can't think this world is interesting if you actually watch South Park episodes. As someone mentioned earlier, there is SO much fantasy-land stuff--Imagination Land, Mr. Hankey, Hell, etc.--it just oozes opportunity.

What would make this game perfect is if it were a 2D RPG like Valkyrie Profile but in South Park style of course. Give the game a huge metroidvania map, sidequests, skill trees, n shit like that and HNNNG.
Of course I'm just throwing out my dream game based on whats been announced. Regardless of how it turns out I am super excite.

Yup, I'm really interested to hear what they've planned for the gameplay. Open world could turn out to be really cool if they put some effort into it. Wouldn't even have to resort to the cliched mountains as game world boundaries - stray too far and you get ganged by those goddamn mongolians.

Oh yea of course, you know except for the fact that this past season produced two of the best episodes in the entire series. And that the first couple of seasons have aged horribly.

And when has culturally relevant ever made a difference when it comes to the quality of a game or a reason for it to be released?
