Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

as you watch this trailer, some scenes look real for the first nanosecond you glance it after cut to a new scene.
impressive
I'm without words really.

Nobody expect the spanish inquisition of this type of graphic from a stupid ass sims simulator.

Look at some the animations...

I'm so hard to please with big budget games but i lose my mind over small games punching above their weight.

Metacritic and sales numbers are more reliable metrics than Goty Awards, which are made up entirely by fanboys, especially sony fanboys in most European countries.

2019 games

Death Stranding
metascore - 82
userscore - 7.4
sales - 5 million units

RE2R
metascore - 91
userscore - 89
sales - 14 million units

Sekiro
metascore - 90
userscore - 86
sales - 10 million units

Luigi's Mansion 3
metascore - 86
userscore - 84
sales - 13 million units
Exactly, lol. DS winning so many game awards in 2019 is an absolute joke when there were games that were far higher rated by both journalists and gamers. These stupid awards are nothing but popularity contest, wether chosen by journalists or gamers.

You can't tell me this shit is not impressive for an AA sims type game.

jesus i love ue5.

Looks really good considering how Sims still looks like a PS2 game.

I think these asian studios are putting in the work. it's not just UE5. Very few western studios are pushing UE5 to its limits. Xbox's AAAA studios Initiative's Perfect Dark sequel doesnt really look anything special, and while Avowed does look good for an Obsidian game, it's no Wukong or Black State.

Lets hope we see marvel 1943 and Iron Man next week. IIRC, EA Motive chose UE5 for Iron Man ditching Frostbite. Dead Space looked nice, but I am glad they chose UE5.

No I haven't. I have seen others play and at no point did I want to ti engage with it. This is coming from someone who sank ton of time into MGS5, but that is a game with actual gameplay. DS is as much of a game as Detroit is. I prefer to play games with actual gameplay. If Kojima didn't make it then nobody would have cared for that pos.

Btw, I've seen you be very critical of Hellblade 2 for its lack of gameplay, yet here you are arguing about the awesomeness of gameplay in DS. Baffling.
Damn, I’ve spent 60 hours enjoying Death Stranding and now I’m reading that it has no gameplay?

Next time could you please warn me earlier, because I’ve just wasted a bunch of time playing a game without gameplay.

This GOTY tracker has been tracking games going back to 2003. His lists are a comprehensive compilation of all GOTY winners each year.

Here are the rest of them. These awards arent pulled out of someone's ass. The game really did resonate with both fans and journalists. if anything, journos reviewed the game all wrong thinking it wouldnt resonate with gamers and docked points for it leading to a relatively low metacritic.

Do you know why people didn't take that tracker seriously? Russian websites have more votes than Japanese, despite the sheer differences for both countries relevancy in the industry.

2023 with 541 total awards

Top 5 biggest dedicated video game countries

USA, the biggest country for console gaming, had 147 awards, which is around 27% of total awards
Japan, the second biggest market for console gaming, had 8 awards, which is around 1.4% of total awards
Germany, the third biggest, had 22 awards, which is around 4% of total awards
UK, the fourth biggest, had 57 awards, which is around 10% of total awards
France, the fifth biggest, had 20 awards, which is around 3% of total awards

Countries with more awards than Japan
Russia - 29 awards
Spain - 33 awards
Italy - 23 awards
Brazil - 17 awards
Netherlands - 15 awards
Australia - 13 awards
Mexico - 11 awards
Canada - 10 awards
Ireland - 10 awards
Hungary - 10 awards
Poland - 9 awards

At this point, you can see how stupid this award tracker is when he ignored Japan, France, and Germany, three of the top 5 biggest gaming countries, when giving points based on websites he found on the internet lol.
An unknown porn website from Russia has the same voting power as the CESA Award from Japan.

Are we talking about the same website? The guy went MIA after 2020. The site hasnt been updated since. So not sure where you got the 2023 results from. https://gotypicks.blogspot.com/2019/10/2019-game-of-year.html

Some folks on era created a new tracker website after getting tired of waiting for him to return. They also have DS as the top awarded game that year. https://goty.gamefa.com/year/2019/

2019
Japan - 3 awards
Russia - 21 awards

I will also throw my hat into the ring of saying that Red Dead Redemption 2 has much more going on in its open world than Death Stranding, NPCs with actual “lives”, wildlife roaming around, “random” moments etc. It feels like a lived in and breathing world, compared to Death Stranding’s more barren wasteland, which is by design, to be fair. In terms of just sheer simulation and interactivity, RDR2 has it over DS by a considerable margin, and the former still to me has the best open world in those regards, perhaps with KCD2 slotting in at second place.

Of course rdr2 has more npcs and wildlife. The argument is whether or not those few npcs and rabbits put a strain on the gpu to the effect ever ds has an unfair advantage in terms of rendering load. At worst it’s a cpu task and the few animals and npcs it has to render are no different from the mules you encounter in death stranding’s open world.

I would pick rdr2 over ds1 any day of the week but it is definitely valid to compare the two games.

Ahh. That’s a test that just have to be done in a controlled environment then. There would still likely be some variation due to how those two games’ respective engines put load on the hardware they’re tested on.

Would be interesting to see though, for sure.

Next up is Star Wars Outlaws to test out my 5090 rig after the disappointing Spider-Man 2...

... and holy shit, this one is stunning. Only like 30 minutes in but this already has to be a top 5 best looking game. Just stunning maxed out on my rig.
Just wait till you get to the first planet, the intro planet is the weakest part graphically imo, beautiful maps and theres quite a lot of moving pieces there. After all the patches the game is pretty good too.

Hey, would you look at that! From two weeks ago.

1) hellblade
2) avatar
3) black myth
4) silent hill 2
5) star wars outlaws
6) alan wake 2
7) jedi survivor
8) hfw
9) starfield
10) demon souls
Wait till you get to Toshara and check out some of the ray traced interiors in the shiny Empire bases. the jungle planet is incredibly dense too with some of the best draw distance ive ever seen. then there is Tatooine which has some of the worst rocks and yet some of the best visuals ive seen in a city.

Make sure to turn on ray reconstruction. it makes the rt reflections in those enemy bases so much clearer.

What time is it?
Yeah, and its great to see water physics taken to the next level with floods.

I am really curious to see how fires, storms, avalanches and earthquakes affect the gameplay.

It's why I always chuckle when people think Kojima's games are just cutscenes trying to emulate Hollywood. And while he does have those aspirations, the attention to detail in his games create sandboxes like no other. Death Stranding didn't really hold my attention but I do respect the hell out of it. It also has one of the more novel online implementations since Demon Souls.
