Has the Xbox Series already cemented itself as the worst Xbox generation in history?

What’s Microsoft’s worst generation?

In my opinion, outside of some type of a miracle in the next few years, the answer is definitely "yes". Particularly with the news of every game coming to PS5 and Switch 2.

There's been some good/great exclusives, but just no where near the level of Microsoft’s past generations thus far.

Personally, I'd rank the generations as such:

  1. Xbox (due to Sega exclusives)
  2. Xbox 360 (great start until Kinect)
  3. Xbox One (poor start but One X was great)
  4. Xbox Series (dead)

Xbox One was the worst Xbox generation for me. When the model without Kinect released I picked it up to play Sunset Overdrive, but outside of that I mostly ignored it until One X released. I did nearly all of my multiplat gaming on One X last gen with PS4 Pro for Sony exclusives. My primary console this gen is PS5, but I still game on my XSX quite a bit. From a technical perspective it's a much better experience than Xbox One was.

No way, Xbox One was the turning point, they had PlayStation groggy and they decided to go with "television", "television". They just had to do what Sony has always been doing, add more power and keep the same games and PlayStation would have been gone by now.

What time is it?
I could see an argument for it being the worst or at least the most nonessential with the majority of the library heading to other platforms and the excellent backwards compatibility being available on One X.

It had exclusives though, despite the hardware flaws

This.
XONE had Quantum break, Ryse SOR, Sunset overdrive, Gears 4 & 5, Halo 5, Sea of thieves, Gears tactics, Killer instinct, Ori etc, meanwhile , the series consoles had...*crickets
Not only that but they fucked up so bad that the few (super mediocre) exclusives they had are now all going multiplatform...

XSX/XSS lose by default IMO

I have to give the prize to their current gen. Although Xbox One was undoubtedly bad, this gen is the one where they raised the white flag and sent their games to Playstation. Their big plans imploded, and they couldn't survive otherwise. Sending your exclusives - and not just your everyday exclusives, but your traditional, cornerstone franchises (Forza, Gears, Halo) - to the competition, that is a huge fail from the console standpoint. Also, this is the gen where their console sales have tanked the worst, and it's also the gen where they spent 80 billion dollars to boost GP, which caused them to send everything multiplatform. And Xbox fan morale is as low as I've ever seen it. At least during the Xbone era, they were hanging in there and putting on a good face. Not now.

It's cool that both PS and Xbox are having their worst generation ever. I feel privileged to witness this historic event.

Moderated wildly
It's the generation they went multi platform and sold the worst. Deffo 100% this gen so far.

I suppose there's an argument that the Xbox one generation killed the brand but I fully believe they could have turned it around this gen. They just totally botched it at every opportunity.

Stupid monster eating marketing
No launch titles
Weaker performing third party - wait for the tools etc
Buying abk and having your stupid dirty emails all over the Internet.

It's almost like a comedy sketch...lmao

XBO felt way worse in terms of actually missing on games you'd have to play on other platforms, and there was a long stretch of very few new exclusive games.

XSX had a much stronger offering but the damage was done at this point - at least it helped people ascend to PC.

Let's put it this way. The xbox one generation was a disaster but could've been fixed if phil spencer wasn't terrible at his job once he took over. But the series x generation is so bad that it caused xbox to go third party and has single handedly killed xbox hardware sales and the brand image itself.

they all suck
OG xbox was interesting though and had some energy

x360 basically got lucky sony fumbled the ps3
x1 was super boring
series x also boring

x1 is the easiest to hate for whatever reason

I'd say Xbox One.
This is the gen where they gave up and just went third party, true.
But it was the massive failure of the Xbox One that pushed them to this point

I don't give a shit about exclusives. Overpriced weak ass hardware + Kinnect disaster + it killed the Xbox brand. Can't get much worse than that.

Gamepass killed the brand by devaluing every single exclusive and being a subscriber service that has completely died in terms of growth. Gamepass forced them to buy bethesda and activision/blizzard to fuel it and it's been a disaster beyond belief.

this is revisionism. xbox live was a breakthrough in the 2nd half of og and especially on 360. MS practically set the standard for all the features Sony only caught up to on ps4.

also xbox 360 didn't just benefit from sony fuckups, it had an incredible library in its first 3 years.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Lol, okay, this one I can get behind. I have literally only used my Series X to play Xbox One games with better visuals. From that standpoint, it's hit the mark for me. From an actual, original software standpoint? Categorically useless. There hasn't been even one game I've wanted for the Series X that isn't better played elsewhere, and that's absolutely astounding to me.

I feel like Xbox consoles have gotten progressively worse each time there's been a new one, particularly if you care about exclusive content. The OG was great, the 360 had some good stuff despite the performance issues with that gen... then they fell off pretty hard with the One and completely shit the bed with Series.

Edit: Wow, not a single vote for the Xbox or 360 as the worst gen. Good.

Xbox One is the worst. Hands down. No question. There's a reason Microsoft wanted to kill Xbox during that generation. Every problem that Xbox faces today can be traced back to that ill-fated moment.

2005 - Owned XBOX but only ever had 1 game for it Forza 1

2007 - Owned a 360 and I had alot of games for it.

2013 - Never owned a XBOX One

2022 - Owned Series X for 7 days had 1 game for it FH5

My pick is XBOX One as the worst since I never cared about owning it.

The whole generation has been pretty forgettable. For me, at least. Definitely the worst in terms of exciting games. Again, that's me speaking personally. Don't come at me with your sales figures and whatnot. I don't care.

live was great, and 3rd party titles were often best on x360 (performance/settings)
those were two major flubs from sony, esp. since sony framed ps3 as the premium option

if ps3 had superior performance in 3rd party titles, i dont think i wouldve ever bought an x360
