Has the Xbox Series already cemented itself as the worst Xbox generation in history?

Xbox One in its first few years had some pretty good third party exclusives, like Titanfall. It had Killer Instinct which is a very good fighter. We also got Forza 6 and 7, both excellent games, and Horizon 2-4. Gears 4 was very good especially in multiplayer. We also got a Master Chief Collection which was a disaster at launch and for 3 years later but by the time the One X came out, it was an awesome package.

Yea that is about it, and it's not much, but it's still better than what we have gotten from Series.

This.
XONE had Quantum break, Ryse SOR, Sunset overdrive, Gears 4 & 5, Halo 5, Sea of thieves, Gears tactics, Killer instinct, Ori etc, meanwhile , the series consoles had...*crickets
Not only that but they fucked up so bad that the few (super mediocre) exclusives they had are now all going multiplatform...

XSX/XSS lose by default IMO
Good point. They screwed the pooch with Xbone but at least it had actual games that came out (including lots of crossgen)

2005 - Owned XBOX but only ever had 1 game for it Forza 1

2007 - Owned a 360 and I had alot of games for it.

2013 - Never owned a XBOX One

2022 - Owned Series X for 7 days had 1 game for it FH5

My pick is XBOX One as the worst since I never cared about owning it.
I call beards. You had an XBOX but only ever owned Forza 1? Fuck off, you never played OG HALO or Rainbow Six, Splinter cell or NG?

Sales might be bad but the hardware is good

Yes, because the One has had at least exclusive games (a few..) and the game pass was a stealer.
Let's wait 1-2 years and MS will be mostly some kind of a third party publisher and the XSX will be only interesting for console only players, because of the game pass.
But buying a 550 $ console just because of a 20+$ subscription service..?

Not my type of games I like JRPGs and racing games I bought a OG xbox back in 2005 cause I was tried of GT4 and wanted something new and Forza 1 looked great.

I voted for XB1 mainly because of its botched launch. The xbox series has been an absolute gen of meh, but that doesnt compare to the tvtvtvkinecttvkinecttv shit of the first couple years of the xbox one.

Think of it, when the leaks of the reveal dropped, even the mods here went into the bunker because they knew the outrage was coming.
Worth remembering the Xbox One generation had the most powerful console

I thought the xb1 was ass, but not the Xb1x. So even better yet, it didnt look like ass and was outperforming the ps4 pro more times than not

Unlike the SX

For future proof reasons if i wanted to rebuy an xbox it would still likely be a SS, but man the xb1x was still a damn good choice

Hard to decide which. But ive kept all my Xboxs to this point cause they felt like i needed to maintain their exclusives.
I let go of my Series X due to the lack exclusives and lack of future.

So i voted Series

Xbox One X was really powerful with great specs but I remember the PS4 Pro was closer than it should have been. Feels like devs didn't put the work in to optimize games on XOX.

Never had the Xbox One (was turned off by direction Microsoft was going back then) but briefly had the Series X before reverting back to PC. I actually enjoyed the Xbox experience better than the PS5 experience. Quick resume across multiple games was incredible, and Game Pass was a great way to try out titles I may not otherwise. If Xbox had actual, legitimate console-only exclusives then I would probably think the Series X is great. Without those, can't really justify owning one when I have PC + PS5.

xb1 generation struggled so much it needed a reinvention of the hardware not once but twice to even keep its foot in the door to maintain a minimum level of relevance. But it had software. It had reasons to own it over other platforms. It made the decision one people had to actually consider and weigh up.

How could anything ever possibly be worse than tha....

xbox series x enters the chat... "behold my 12 terraflops, lack of exclusives and curious inability to outperform ps5 in 3rd party titles. Wait for the tools?"

xbox series s "I got this, hold my shandy bass".

And that's how xbox died an unremarkable death, not with a bang but a flaccid drooper.

Worth remembering the Xbox One generation had the most powerful console

Xbox Series is stuck with S and X, both weak
Most powerful console for the 2 years 8 months it was on the market before they held their hands up and admitted they'd stopped producing it. A paper crown. then the S comes along and can't even run its improved versions of games thanks to a lack of memory. Genius.

It was uphill battle to recover from the failings of the Xbox One, but the damage the brand has done by porting exclusives to its most direct competitor is irreversible. Microsoft had unrealistic expectations on what type of immediate impact the Activision deal would have and blew everything up mere months after finally being able to close the deal.

The day they decided to port their games to Playstation is the day they decided to port their fanbase to Playstation. Gamepass isn't going to fix this.

It was mainly because what had to run on the xb1x still needed to run on the launch xb1. And the powergap between the og and xb1x was much larger than ss to sx (especially with the dram they used)

But the xb1x still had some absolute W’s. Native 4k at a solid 30fps on RDR2 vs the ps4 pro’s ~1440p upscaled to 4k for example.

The scary thing is that the Xbox console itself isn't even bad. It wasn't overpriced, it wasn't late and they had a budget alternative to reach a wider audience from day one.

I guess what killed them is the lack of exclusives, they launched full cross gen, even more than Sony with the PS5. Halo came out a year later, and was still unfinished as fuck. Then they had some other exclusive bombs like Redfall. I think the ABK deal backfired on them as well. It generated a lot of bad press.

Its not like the PS5 is even that good. But its better than Xbox. They do have more well received games you can only play on console, or you could for a good while before they jumped to PC.

There is basically nothing you would need an Xbox for. Its not like there is something like GT7 thats only on Xbox. Even though thats on PS4 as well, its ofcourse far more beneficial to get it for PS5.

Original Xbox. Had the least amount of games, and the Duke controller. Just awful.

Original Xbox had a ton of (console) exclusives though. Halo was console exclusive for a good while, there was also HL2 and Doom 3 which weren't on PS2 and GC. DoA, NG, PGR, KOTOR, Jade Empire.. there was quite a list of games only available on Xbox. And it was the best place to play popular third parties like Splinter Cell too. They were ported to the other systems, but they were nothing like the Xbox versions.

Hard disagree on this one.

OG Xbox one had some fantastic games, NG, PGR, Forza, Rainbow Six, Halo, Splinter Cell JSRF plus many many more. Also had the best online at the time and the Duke fit my massive hands perfectly.

For me OG Xbox and 360 are tied then distant 3rd the Xbone and dead last the Series. Its all about the games and despite the X being their best effort at hardware the software falls catastrophically short.

Gamepass killed the brand by devaluing every single exclusive and being a subscriber service that has completely died in terms of growth. Gamepass forced them to buy bethesda and activision/blizzard to fuel it and it's been a disaster beyond belief.
And when did they start it? In the Xbox One gen.

I would say Series generation has been the worst, yes

At least when compared to the competition

  1. Xbox (original) had several resons to own one (Halo, PGR, Sega Games, exclusive pc ports etc). Also great graphics for the time
  2. Xbox 360 was THE console that generation with lots and lots of exclusive titles. XbLive was way ahead of the competition
  3. Xbox One was bad, but it had SOME exclusives. Games comping to PC too made it a bit pointless but One X had the best third party ports at least
  4. XBox Series will have no exclusives (PC versions are best and PS5 will get all else). It will not even have the best versions of console titles (PS5 Pro). Series S is one bad piece of hardware too. Murdered by Xbox everywhere

not just worst xbox, but worst console, a total collapse, that probably cemented the death of a 20+ years old hardware family for good.

Xbox One was a complete DISASTER, the 900p VCR machine, idiotic choices, etc. As much flack as the Series generation gets it at least corrected some of the wrongs of that, as much as we complain about the Series S it was at least offered at a cheap price point and is still a decent entry as a game pass machine, it was also a GREAT emulation box before MS got pissy about that.

Xbox console itself is great. AutoHDR and FPS boost are winners.

Problem is no exclusive support- consoles live and die by that. Its why Nintendo and Sony are where they are.

Having a hard time seeing XSX as worse than Xbox One except from a sales perspective. XSX has better features, plays all Xbox One games (many performing better on XSX) and wasn't an overpriced piece of shit from the moment it was launched like Xbox One was. I mean.....Xbox One is the very reason Xbox as a console brand is in the sorry state it is. Really isn't close, imo.

XBOX One is the worst gen - they pretty much lost all the momentum coming in from 360 days. Big f'up - and I don't think Xbox as a brand has ever really fully recovered from it.
Series S/X situation is partly to blame for that.

I think XBox One is the worst.

With the amount of studios they currently own, and Sony being on a low, they have the means to skip ahead (for a while). But they're cucks and have no fight in them, would rather play nice and give Sony all their games.

Its been the most disappointing. I own every Xbox they have ever releleased and I've relegated my Series X to "the game pass console my kids play". Which is still fine for what it is, but just not compelling to me
