I've never really got the hype around the MH series. I gave MH World about 10-15 hours and gave up on it because it felt aimless a lot of the time.

I tried MH wilds as well and it's more of the same. Spending 30-60 minutes doing the same combos over and over and over again during hunts gets old quickly.

The visuals are a step down from MH World as well.
The game is about getting strong as you advanced, its a very grind game but fair.

Its the kind of game that u can play at your own pace and enjoy without "Fomoing".

If u wants to enjoy MH, explore the map, find enviroment traps, trace a path and start the hunt.

It seems “fine”. I don’t know that I love your character having a speaking role, and it feels like it’s lacking a certain amount of charm. I don’t like how much the monsters look like animals, I prefer more dinosaur or draconic looking designs myself. Everything just seems a little “gross” to look at so far.

I do dig some of the UI changes, though. Love that weapons are sorted properly by type.

Are we looking at the same monsters? I would argue that Wilds represents one of the biggest departures from animal-like monsters in a long time. World's monsters were much more "this is just a big lizard"

Arkveld gave a bit of trouble, but got him down eventually. With randoms it's almost impossible though, carts everywhere and I asusume the HP is bloated for 4 players so a 20min time limit will be very difficult.

I remember having more trouble with Nergigante and Velkhana, I hope full game Arkveld will be more difficult.

Anyway, cannot wait till 28th! I always get lost in the MH world and spend hours and hours fighting monsters. GOTY for me always.

EDIT: I'm see some posts complaining about visiuals and saying World was better. Like wtf, are you blind? Just have a fight with Arkveld with lightning storm and you can see a breathtaking spectacle. That's on base PS5, PC is even more jawdropping.

Tried with Randoms and i got screwed time ran our, he's pretty easy once you learn the patterns.

OMG this dialog is killing me. There’s like a 2 second pause after every line. Why do Japanese games do this?
Because the language rhythm doesn't fit Englisch wording, especially when it comes to dramatic sequences. If you just tack it on as is you'd get completely out of sync mouth movements. Pick your poison.

No that has nothing to do with it. They literally just stand there with their mouth shut for 2 seconds after every line.

Played on both console platforms now and, although I love a lot of the new mechanics that make it more solo friendly and takes some of the edge off of the grind, I just can’t get past how visually blah the game is and how bad the performance is.

I understand it’s an old build but I remember how crap MHW ran at launch and all the problems Rise had when it originally launched on Switch. Then add in the past performance issues with Dragon’s Dogma 2, which this borrows from, and I think this is going to be a game I’ll pick up six months or so down the line, after they’ve had some performance and content patching.

Man, this game runs so bad.

Running the lowest settings and it still looks bad and FPS is bad. No other game gives me such issues.

god I love this franchise...but I am thinking of canceling my preorder and waiting for the game to be fixed...

Will wait for reviews…

But not playing while it’s most popular also kinda sucks
If you mean the FOMO period, I agree. But Monster Hunter on PlayStation/PC will always have a healthy player base, just like Fromsoft games.

I have no doubts it will be an amazing game. I just don't know man... maybe I'm not the in the right mindset. I'm always hype for new Monster Hunter but this isn't grabbing me.

I'm just hoping they've been crunching like mad over the last few months.

Similar worries happened with RE4, it ran like shit in the demo and in prior showings, but turned out OK at launch.

Playing later with rando's isn't as fun as playing with people on your friends list

I can't get over the Charge Blade moveset changes, and something about the timing of everything with it just feels... off. I swear my inputs just decide to not happen randomly, and it overall just feels way more sluggish and slow (sword mode in particular).

For an example, try guarding with the shield: even if you tap it, the animation now has you automatically fully hold/guard with it for like half a second, rather than the prior snappiness (slight exaggeration, but you can absolutely feel it). CB has been my main since 4U, and I legit might actually try something new because of all this

That said... game itself is fun- I'm already enjoying just running around having numerous monsters in the field, and the wound system is interesting (if not being tricky to get used to for me haha)

I spent way too much time in the character creator but i think my dude is ready to ask Gemma to polish his longsword.

Really hope the final build on the PS5 is a bit improved cuz i rather play at 30fps with decent visuals than at 60 fps where it feels i need glasses. And i played it with motion blur off. Really disappointing to see all these japanese devs struggling to make a good looking game that runs decent. They do make great games though, im loving the beta gameplay elements.

Either that or will just wait untill i buy a new PC in a couple of months. Will wait and see how the final build will look and run to decide.

played a little since I missed the first beta. loving pretty much everything they've done so far. hunted all the monsters in the beta except Arkveld.bgoing to give it a crack tomorrow.

Still not a huge fan of Arkveld. Have beaten him now with all the weapons I play multiple times solo and with friends. Oh well, they all can’t be Lagaicrus or Nergigante I guess.

There’s lots of little jank everywhere, animations looking strange, inputs not registering sometimes, washed out color palette but…. I’m still preordering lol, for all its faults I still had a blast since PSN came back up. It’s all I’ve done today.

Rey Dau and Arkveld are fun fights but seem extra spongey compared to the rest of the monsters. And they flee so damn much. Hoping there is a large improvement for release.

I believe they have addressed the fleeing thing as a beta "feature" that's getting fixed for the release. As for the other issue, they are high tier monsters we're fighting with starter gear so no surprise there. Even if they did adjust them for the beta, I doubt they put too much effort on balancing them just right.

Funny thing in very first Monster Hunter the monsters flee A LOT, you spend more time chasing them down than fighting them.

Considering the beta is from last November and doesn’t have most of the fixes they’ve been working on, it’s safe to say it will perform better. Not sure how much better, but there will be improvement. Especially if you’re on PC or PS5 Pro.

If your current build is substantially better then the beta built - why even bother?

New players need to be told that MR hunts won't come until later next year with an expansion. The LR and HR hunts will tell the base story, and probably see tons of patches over the first few months, so don't expect perfection at launch.

Open beta on a 3 month old build.

It's quite a bit older than that, and the point of the Beta is to stress test the servers, not to be a graphics showcase.

I'll admit I don't know what kind of work it would take to implement a new build in the Beta, but if it's anything more than trivial I'd rather they continue to spend that time on the promised optimization and balance changes of the actual retail product.

Probably difficult since they had to make mechanic changes to the game like all the limits imposed and I'm sure their goal wasn't modularity in their ability to improve the game while also it maintaining the "walled garden" of the beta. People should definitely chill a little until release, they have said it will be improved upon and traditionally the last 6-12 months of a game sees a lot of optimization. Don't preorder and you will have your how it runs answer 30 mins after release.

Discovered the Long Sword bomb trick from Rise is still there even without level 3 quick sheath. Neat.

There's also a little bug right now where you can immediately cancel a charging R2 into an Iai Spirit Slash. Which means you can do it at any time, such as immediately following a roll, and you can chain them together infinitely even if you miss.

Runs like shit?

Amusing how people are willing to hand wave the garbage performance due to franchise loyalty. If this was ANY game other than MH, it’d be crucified for running like this.
That's part of it. Runs like shit. Looks like muddy shit. I feel like there's something more to it though. I just can't quantify it yet.

But yeah, I'm definitely not giving Capcom on a pass on this one. They need to fix this before launch.

After Mh Rise, this feels very complicated. I felt the same way in MHW and quit shortly after because I didn't know what to do or where to go. Big map with a lot of icons is overwhelming. How do you select a quest? When I talk to that girl, only optional quests appear... is it like this because it's beta? Is there no weapon upgrading and market in the beta, or did I just fail to unlock them?

Other than those problems, I really liked being able to collect items from the environment with my weapon while riding "chocobo". I've also gotten used to the graphics; some effects look really good.

A lot of people were disliking the feel of the combat because they significantly decreased the hit stop on the weapons, so your attacks lacked any sense of impact or weight. They're changing it for the full release.
