I’m playing Monster Hunter Rise to see if I liked it enough to get Monster Hunter Wilds tomorrow but it’s so overwhelming and confusing. Mega hard pass!
Yeah. It's not your typical Hack n Slash adventure game.
I tried MH: World, when it came out. HATED IT.

If they made it more single player friendly, it'd be cool.

It is as single player as can possibly be to the point where you can even choose to have the SOS flare only summon NPC hunters to help you instead of other players. You can also choose to play single player online in your own lobby so you never see any other players (or just play offline altogether).

Un bel figotto paciorotto :messenger_savoring:

Btw for people on pc:

According to my testing, the game has a bugged reflex implementation that causes massively bad frametimes, as does the internal framerate cap option. Disable frame gen, disable reflex, disable the framerate cap. Rely on vsync/gsync and the game will feel *substantially* smoother.

Saw some who were interested in playing together, so I setup a NeoGAF squad to get things started (if someone wants lead/sub-lead let me know). For those who don't know, it's basically a guild/clan and you can use it to join a squad lobby to more easily play together (bc Capcom somehow made multiplayer more confusing than ever).

Squad name: NeoGAF
Squad ID: XG6EV5EH

How to join:
  1. Talk to Felicita/go to squad information counter at base camp.
  2. Manage squads --> join a new squad --> squad ID search.
  3. Search for XG6EV5EH and request to join (approval required).
  4. Post your character name in this thread and tag a leader/sub-leader.
You need to finish the tutorial hunt and talk to a few people in base camp to unlock the squad counter.
Sent a request in game. Same as my GAF username.

Reading around reeee perf topic.

Texture pack seems to make things worse no matter the hardware for kinda of a minimal graphic difference.

People with uneven performance should do a try with texture pack disabled.

Thanks for doing this. I generally run solo through the main story, unless I’m farming… but will definitely join!

How does multi work if no one is online? Does it have matchmaking?

I have a pending request to join the NeoGAF squad from Thomas Magnum P.I - is that one of you?

SOS flares are closest to matchmaking, they are quests that can be joined by anyone (not just in your lobby). You can also join a Recommended Lobby and it will place you in a populated lobby where you'll find many quests posted that can be joined, even if they don't send out SOS flares.

This is actually a good resource to explain multiplayer:

Just sitting in the tent with your Palico is a treat:

There is an undeniable, infectious charm to this game with it's lavish, vibrant animations and bold sense of style, it makes up for the uneven visual presentation though we should absolutely have expected more this deep into the gen and from CAPCOM, especially considering Monster Hunter is their best selling IP.

On chapter 2 now, the enemy designs are fantastic, each boss presenting unique mechanics, at times amusing, at times powerful in their thrashing, sweeping movement, it's can be quite the spectacle.

Have to say I'm enjoying it so far, although I haven't had much time to play yet and I spent way too much time in character creation.

Got a bit caught up in the negativity about it's visuals and honestly, it isn't that bad at all. But it isn't great either.
Colors are a bit muted, but not to the point that it really bothers me.

No complaints about performance either on PS5 Pro. Decided to go with Balanced-mode in 120hz with no framecaps. Plays pretty good on both my OLED and my Portal.

I can see myself spending quite some time on the game. Happy I bought it after all.

Yup. Its this. 100%.

No Silksong? = Delivering the pain.
I’ve decided on ps5 pro that 30fps resolution mode is the way to go. The performance mode is just too bad and ugly. If I had a 120hz tv, balanced mode would be an easy choice. The game actually looks decent minus the garbage textures.

I will say, I feel like the graphics that are in the cutscenes should be what actual gameplay looks like. I don’t think that’s out of line.

As for the game itself… it’s amazing. Characters are fantastic. I’m loving the story focus. Monsters are great and the game does a wonderful job introducing new concepts and game elements at a digestible pace. Can’t wait to hop back in tomorrow.

Gemma is an all-time god tier character design.

Game defaulted to "ultra" for me, and I'm not gonna fiddle with all the settings because they did nothing in the beta; getting 40-60 fps, 50 average, which is honestly about the same as I was getting in mhw at launch, no stutters at all so far.
runs at 70-80 with framegen and it doesn't feel too bad so I'll keep it on and see if I'll get annoyed by it or not.

My game is running good so far with the ultra texture pack and latest drivers. But keep in mind that I am playing on a 4090

Higher framerates don't seem stable enough for me, especially in the village/base, so I just wound up locking it to 60.

4 hours in and having lots of fun. Even if I'm noobing it up with the Charge Blade...

MHW probably sold 1.5 millions on the first day on all platforms (1 million Steam and the rest is a guess). Good start. Im too much into Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 to start it today same as the friend i will play it with, so is better while we wait for a patch

noped out of the game when I saw other people walking around the game and restarted in online single player, being able to pause is essential.
Feels like world to me so far, the adjustment to monster running away behaviour so it's like world is immediately noticeable over the beta and Rise as well.
I also like the radial tool to use the most effective status healing, no need to have nulberries/antidotes/etc on the menu now.

I have a high tolerance for resolution and low tolerance for frame rate. On my base PS5 is at least 720p 60 fps doable? I'm buying today when I get off work anyway just wondering about optimization.

played about 6 hours or so last night with my buddy and his wife. just the starting basic stuff and a couple optional hunts. got myself to the new biome and hunted the first two monster in the story there too. one of the benefits of WFH is that I can kinda just run the game in the background doing some exploring, fishing and gathering. going to be stocked up when I get back to actually hunting.

also, I decided to try the human language for my Palico to try something new. at least with the Japanese voice option, the younger "baby" voice for the Palico is just too adorable that I decided to stick with it. and the "play with Palico" option when you're in the tent is just SO cute I ALMOST want to go adapt a kitty. almost. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

i just got a code for this from buying an AMD cpu.

the cpu isn't for me. i'm building a PC for someone. do i need to install something with this CPU in the PC to redeem it? or can i just create an AMD account to redeem it on my own PC?
