Rumours that NTC developments could be getting announced at CES 2025 and that's the reason the 50xx relatively low VRAM too.......Nvidia about to pair texture compression with DLSS and use Switch 2 as the playground?

We already had news for that some time ago, for both Nvidia and AMD's AI texture compression.
The question is if it will require new hardware to implement, or if it's just a software based solution, that can run on current Tensor cores.

I sense that picture quality is going to be all over the place.
Perhaps texture quality will somewhat suffer but game download sizes will go down and that's a good thing.

Edit: according to the summary this will also positively affect memory requirements (so: hardware cost) and can be computed on existing hardware, possibly fast enough for real time.

Sounds like a big win to me!

Sounds like a perfect solution for Nintendo tbh. Curious to see if it’s something they’ll actually utilize.

Would be great to still get all their games on the cartridge without needing any downloads throughout their next generation as well.
