Path of Exile - Open Stress Test Weekend!

Hazaro

relies on auto-aim
Also a note to new testers...
Don't expect to ID every blue item you find. This is not Diablo. Save your early scrolls for items you can actually use.

This is a lot better than I expected it to be. Only played it for 45mins or so but I'm pleasantly surprised. I like how they handle potions.

I'm a Witch in.. plate armour. Is that right? Haven't came across any robes or leather items yet, aside from a belt. Dunno if the rng just isn't on my side.

You should have seen what it was six months ago.
At that time every1 have spammed 2-3 Flasks/sec xD

Now it´s not so "spammy" anymore and there are some nice Flasks without mana/heal Reg, for Example a Flask which give you 10.000 Armor for 3sec or 100% crit for 1,5sec.
It´s really nice now

What magic is this? Having a latency of 350-500ms and it feels like zero! After having played the D3 beta, where I get around the same latency using an unshaped account + Tunnelling proxy. I would rubber band like crazy!

Anyway really enjoying this. The atmosphere is really nice, this constant dread. The skill system is kinda crazy. But in a good way. Enjoying this so much.

Although not sure if this is a bug, or part of the feature set. Essentially I was at the shallow depths .. or whatever it's called. Anyway it was a dungeon with two levels. I went down to the second level, cleared it, and when I went back to the first floor, the whole map changed. It was like I was never there.

Anyway will be playing some more tomorrow, level 8 witch.

Btw any idea what type of 'changes' we can expect regarding skills levelling up? I mean do they just become more powerful? Or will there be like some visual changes?

@bug, every Instance will reset after 15min

@Changes, the skills will only get more powerful BUT u have Support Gems for the real changes.

For Example:

U have Fireball
Now link it with the Support Gem "Multiple Projectiles" + "Pierce" + "Increased Area of Effect" and u have a Fireball like that:
-3-5 Fireball per shot
-high chance to pierce the enemy
-Greater Explosion Radius

Now u have a Firebal who hits maybe 5-15 Enemies with on Shot with 5-15 Explosions.
But the Manacost are much higher and the damage per Fireball is a little less (10-30%)

This is just one example of millions ^^
It´s really crazy, u can link Multiple Projectiles with ur summoned Minions and they will shot Multiple Projectiles with they ranged skills *g*

After playing for a hour, this game is pretty damn good, hope they don't screw it up with game breaking items you have to pay for.

Guess I will start a new dude on the default server. If anyone wants to play give me a friend invite. Username: Atomski

I'm a bit overwhelmed. Is there a video that breaks down all the games mechanics. I really don't feel like reading a bunch of stuff right now.

So my first impressions, I've played all the way up to Brutus so far.

-Graphics: Technically wonderful, artistically messy. The game definitely has this very sinister atmosphere following the theme of being exiled.
-Gameplay: It feels like Diablo 2.5, with a big twist in how skills and passives are handled, mixed reaction from me. The game is very picky about how you handle your items with no gold to speak of at the moment. I learned to not use Scrolls of Wisdom like crazy.
-General: The game feels like it has all this potential but has some execution problems, it feels a lot slower than other Action RPGs and much more complex. I think the game has it's own place among Torchlight, Diablo, and Titan Quest. For 16 guys and FREE? Not bad at all, but I probably will be playing Torchlight II and Diablo III instead when they are released.

Overall 7/10

This game is pretty cool. I don't really understand how to get skills though..

For active skills I think you can only get them through gems. The first one I got was from a quest reward, but I'm not that far in so I'm not sure if there's other ways to get them.

This game is pretty fun, the beginning was pretty yawn since all the monster die in 2 range attack.

Then I go deeper and see a rare mob that rain down fireballs that follows you, and rare mob that frozen you and slow you with attack. It was actually really fun to fight them, had to use all my potion just to barely survive.

I love the way they deal with potion, no more picking them up like some kind of farmer, the hide white item option <3.

I am still confuse on how scroll of wisdom are used as currency, when will I ever identify an item? Wouldn't it better just to save them and buy the thing you want, rather than blowing them on random item that sell for 1/4 of a scroll? Also too scare to allocate point, I don't see a respec option anywhere.

By the way, there are zero lag in my play through.

They can drop too.
In Act 2 u will getting the first Support Gems, these gems can put into items with linked sockets.
With these Support Gems u can change ur normal skills

feels a lot slower than other Action RPGs
It will get faster later when u have 20-50% more Movement Speed and 75-150% faster Attack/cast Speed :)

I am still confuse on how scroll of wisdom are used as currency,

Scroll of Wisdom worth nothing, there are MANY more Currency items :D

Glad it's useful.

Ah, you are probably right but I'm still bitter at the RMAH=/

Thanks again for the thread, Bitmap. It's 3am and god knows how long I just played... probably like 4 or 5 hours straight, non-stop. Made it to act 2. The game is incredible. It's just like D2 except better graphics and some great new features. I love the currency system... how clever is that? ingenious.

Technical/latency issues: None to speak of! I'm in the U.S. and had like no lag at all for 4-5 hours straight. Didn't get kicked off or anything. I must say the graphics are much better than I ever expected. The textures are so sharp and detailed, what the hell? Lighting and shadows are glorious. Didn't expect the game to look this good at all. Settings were everything maxed out and check-marked at 1080p except V-sync (I always use D3Doverrider for all games) on a 5770 and quad core.

Even with D3 coming I'll gladly support PoE when it releases. In the global chat the devs were saying donations would be up soon and you'd get some merchandise and a beta key them. Take my money!

Everyone give it a shot before the open beta weekend ends! No harm, free to play.

Some quick tips that are vital and asked a lot in chat by nearly everyone when starting out:

* Where's my weapon? Hold ALT to see items on the ground. You can also go to the options menu and in one of the tabs is "always show items" on ground so you don't have to hold alt. I think just pressing Z toggles this as well, so just try that.

* Where's the map? press tab

* How do I upgrade the skill gems? a gem is upgradable after it levels up and you see a + sign on its icon. Equip it on any weapon/gear and then in while in your inventory screen there's a + sign at the bottom... click to upgrade.

* How to get skills/spells? The skills in the game are gems you socket into gear. You're awarded them by doing quests (you have to choose between several) and also via drops.

* How to unsocket the gems? right click

* Easiest way to find/make identify scrolls? You'll notice that they're not nearly as common as in D2. Later in the game I'm sure you'll have a ton but the easiest way to get them besides just drops is to pick up 5 random WHITE items and sell them to the vendor. Each white item gives you a "identify scroll fragment"... get 5 of those and it turns into an ID scroll.

* Should I identify all these blue items before selling to the vendor or just sell them without id'ing? ID based on what you need, then sell the rest.

U = quest log
I = inventory
C = character stats screen
Tab = map
Hold alt = see items on ground
Z = toggle between see items on ground or not

Pretty sure the head guy (forget his name) said in a interview nothing of such would be for sale. More cosmetic and league based purchases.

But I could be wrong and even if he said it it's hard to believe, but could be true.

Just tried it for a few minutes and really like it. Only thing that bothers me a bit is that the camera can't be zoomed out.

Desperately needs a good tutorial because it's so different in many basic ways from other games of this type...but wow this is a lot of fun! I really really dig the sphere-grid like passives. I thought it was horrible in FFX, but it's perfect for this game. It's almost totally overwhelming trying to imagine the build complexity you've got available to you. I also really love the flask/potion system. the inventory feels a bit small to me, because you get more shit than diablo 2 gave you at low levels it seems like.
Played a Duelist, figured i'd be up for an hour or two, now it's been like 4 hours and I'm level 12 or 13 or something and desperately need to sleep.

Consider me sold, I expected the game to suck balls, but it's great! right up there with Torchlight and TQ for me so far (will not elevate to d2 status on such little playtime).

Glad you guys are enjoying this!

As for active skills, as it's been said, you need to equip a skill gem by placing it on an item which has an open slot of the apropiate color. As you gain experience, so do all your equipped gems. Once the gems have earned enough XP, on the inventory screen at the bottom you'll see a little icon with the gem and a + sign. Hit that to level the skill.

Is there a way to minimise the map, or shrink it perhaps? There doesn't seem to be (unless I've missed it).

Not yet, as far as I know.

There are plans for it, maybe offer the choice of both D2 style map and a modern style one, but that's not yet in.

Ah ok, lol makes sense. Was strange at first, but I kinda like it. Although it does give me this constant level of 'doubt' about if I was at the area or not. Then again the game is structed in a lineer enough fashion that I doubt I'll ever really get confused.

The skill system is insane. It reminds me of Two worlds 2's magic system, although slightly more straight forward. Can't wait for support gems lol

Suprised as hell with this! I was getting spikes up to 700 earlier and it still was close to zero impact on the game it self!

Nice, I've grown use to it being the middle, so not too phased. Although I would love to have a slightly more zoomed out view.

Fair enough, and thanks.

As soon as I finish up with some rl stuff I'm gonna go back in. Been thinking about it on and off this morning, a sure sign a game has 'got you', I think.

bah, I was going to play today, maybe not now.
I got the passive skill that allows you to always hit but never crit. I was 1 hit killing everything.

Have anyone checked how many people were online? [/online in chat]
It would be nice to get some info about playerbase :)

I'll login in couple hours :). Havent played in ages, so i'm really excited to see the changes :)

Ps. And about latency, before stress test, when i was playing on EU server i would normally get like 30-50ms :)

Didn't check chat, but I did see where the GGG guy said where they'd increased the server cap to 6400 (about 30 minutes ago), so I assume that?

Edit: This was on the USA gateway.

Sol..

Can you quick switch between bow and melee weapons?

If not, i really don't see the effin' point of all this spell and passive skill flexibility.

having no gold is a very interesting concept....

you don't feel the need to get more gold and the game becomes more item focused....
more direct,cant describe it

You aren't going to be powerful enough if you do that. Its that you can use stuff that's on the opposite side of the board if you plan it out. Someone on the boards broke fire arrow by using strength passives.

Played for a couple of hours and I'm thoroughly unimpressed.

The UI needs a lot of work, and I'm not a huge fan of the art style, although I like how much work they put into the texture detail and lighting etc.

It seems like a competent Diablo-style action RPG and being free-to-play is cool, I guess. I'd rather play something like Titan's Quest, Torchlight II or Diablo III, though.

I'm really enjoying the game but I'm a bit upset. I rolled a Marauder and their passive skills tree really pins you down to only using a certain weapon. Don't like that at all. And then it doesn't help that some active skills require certain weapons, narrowing you down even further. Really regretting choosing Marauder now.

Also wish that skills dropped more frequently but eh. Feels like I don't have many actives to play arond with.
