Path of Exile - Open Stress Test Weekend!

Technically you can use any weapons. You just need to travel really far in the skill tree. You can do some crazy stuff if you plan it out right.

My game crashed going back to town in act 2 like 30 minutes ago, now people are saying the servers are down. Looks like they found their limit. Around 7500

I'm really enjoying the game but I'm a bit upset. I rolled a Marauder and their passive skills tree really pins you down to only using a certain weapon. Don't like that at all. And then it doesn't help that some active skills require certain weapons, narrowing you down even further. Really regretting choosing Marauder now.

Also wish that skills dropped more frequently but eh. Feels like I don't have many actives to play arond with.

Easy way with marauders is either hammers or axes, one handed or two handed. Sword gets a little tricky but you can do it too.

Claws, daggers, bows, wands, sceptres and staffs take major effort tho.

After playing this for a few hours today I have to say: I Love it! Will definitely keep playing once it's out of beta.

I'd be eternally grateful for a full beta invite key. I've already logged in like 7 hours starting last night. Here's my karma resume:

~ Gave away two DotA 2 beta keys to fellow gaffers a few months ago when they were a $uper hot commodity
~ That's all I got

Just got to Act 2. Really enjoyiing it!
Merveil
was a bitch to kill though, playing as a witch that is. Got my first support gem aswell, although it just increases my spell's critical damage by 58%. Firstorm is the death to all!

One thing I found odd though is when ever my raised zombies get hit by ice or any element attack that sustains (like burning and etc) they get this slight blue checked texture over themselves. Not sure if it's a bug since it is subtle.

So, I got to Act 2 as a Duelist, really enjoying it so far, started another character to play with a friend and found that your stash is shared! All my currency, items and skill gems I'd put into my stash on my duelist showed up on my new character. Hadn't seen this posted anywhere, but I think this is a pretty awesome feature, as it would help you to farm for skill gems and such for a new class.

That is, if it is a feature.

I've been playing a duelist since the legacy move as well.

Going sword/dual wield, that's the quintessential duelist build lol. Can't be more vanilla haha.

Which class and build is the most pure fun to play? I am just spamming 1 skill and it can get boring but the loot helps with that.

I have been playing a hybrid of summoning zombies and skeletons, with doing mass electric aoe, and some ice bolts for single target, pretty fun.

I've been going dual weild swords on my duelist as well. Using Flicker Strike, Leap Slam, and Dual Strike as my two main abilities. So much fun Flickering around the battlefield destroying everything.

Flicker Strike is very powerful.

I'd suggest you get hold of cleave, for tightly packed enemies it works amazingly well.

I think that's a combination of the low challenge of early difficulty levels and lack of knowledge about the game, specifically what skills are available.

To give you an idea, on my Avatar of Fire staff templar I was using Infernal Blow as my main damage dealing skill, Leap Slam for mobility and getting away of tight spots, Ground Slam as safe DPS (huge area so you can hit them from far and it stuns; great for difficult packs), Molten Shell as additonal DPS, Warlord Cry (i think it's called that, it generates tanking charges that reduce incoming damage) and a curse that reduces fire resistance for fire resistant mobs.

Every class :) [except dual welding focused] It just starts slow with first char, because You dont have skill gems ;]
Dual welding sux now, because there are only like 2-3 skills for them and most are single target. It will get better when they'll introduce new class though ;p

My very old gameplay - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbqkIB4LcFw

Thanks for the replies. One other thing I wanted to mention is how cool the website is. You can click your character and see all of your current equip, inventory, stash, skill tree, everything. And mousing over the items shows their stats. They put a lot of work into it and it paid off, good stuff.

Btw Thanks Staab for the beta key today!!!

Sorry, how does the closed beta work? what is legacy and such? Do I have to make a new character (no biggie, I want to try the other classes) or does my open weekend beta character go over to closed when the weekend is over?

You can even drag those items into Your posts on the board to show them to other people :) You will be able to trade items through boards in future.

Dunno how this legacy will work, but earlier ones were just like ladder and non ladder games in Diablo 2, when Your ladder resets they are moving Your chars to non-ladder, it was the same with Legacy few months ago.

There was a move to legacy with the 0.98 as well, it happened last night.
You can still play with them in the Legacy realm, but the majority of players continue making new chars in default/HC.

Whenever devs want a fresh start for feedback, they move all current characters to legacy league.

No one plays legacy tho...

Ok got this email that i'm in beta. I am a full beta member or only weekend ?

edit:

Someone have spare key ? :)

So far i love it.

+ potions, system is wonderfull. Not only flasks are diffrent but also can be magical. Also you can't spam them and replace since they refill only in camp or by killing monsters.
+ passive skill tree. Damn it's awasome. It's FFX sphere grid system -spheres.
+ Active abilities. I love that those are gems. Materia anyone ? Thanks to this you can really create crazy classes.
+ Graphic. This is how Diablo3 should look like. Not only that whole fighting system is superclose to D2 but UI is superclean like D2 one. As of UI it's almost a copy of D2 (it's + not -)
+ Intersting barter type economy. Gold in D2 was useless, as portal scrolls, identification scrolls and many other things. In this game i sometimes wonder if my 3 srolls of wisdom are worth bartering for a ring.
+ You feel those hits by your weapons. Torchlite and many other D2 clones didn't really feel fun when my hammer hit somethin. Only D1 and D2 menaged to have this feeling and PAth of Exile is another one.
+ Animations. Those death animations are wonderfull.

- no mini-mini map. There is one D2 esque but it covers whole screen. In D2 there was small minimap in corner. They should add it.
- it's weekend beta and it ends today :(

Also tested it this weekend and it´s really good overall.
Was kinda confusing getting into it but finished the first act and am pleasently surprised and would have liked to play more.
They do a really good job with this game so far.

Supposedly they're going to have a way to donate to get into the closed beta after the stress test weekend is over or something. The GM mentioned that the donation would give you microtransaction credits too. I might just do that

The ignorant comments about D3 in chat and in forum posts like this are smh-worthy. Some of the stuff you here in global chat is just unbelievable.

Its a challenge when you go into a new level and don't have any summons.

Yeah but frost spells are pretty over powered in the first place. Stops most mobs in their tracks. Only thing I ever have to worry about is if theres a ton of ranged attackers.

I do wish they gave you a bit more control over your minions. Sometimes my zombies just go crazy attacking everything in the area while I am moving forward.

I've finished Act 1 with a dual wielding duellist and I quite enjoyed the game. However I've burned out on it due to the fact the 2 skills I got at the start (dual strike & cleave) have been the only ones I've been able to use. I really wish there was more of a sense of progression with the active skills in the game.

Its about connecting those skills with support gems, but I agree. They are going to be adding a lot more skills in the game as it goes on.

Dual wield builds have the less amount of skills available... the last class is supposed to be the dual wield specialist and will debut with new dual wield skills.

For a 14-man development team making a F2P game, I'm impressed.

I ran through Act I twice and half of Act II and I really enjoyed myself. I definitely plan to play it when it releases and when I'm not busy playing Diablo III.

Hopefully the stress test weekend and the fact that the beta is sitting at 0.9.8 are indicators that it's almost done. I'd love a few weeks of PoE before DIII's release.

I'm at Act 2 of Cruel difficulty and still have the same issue with my Ranger (bow). I forget what lvl, around 32-34. I use the same offensive ability for the past like 30 levels. The other ones aren't as good. I put a couple support gems adding multiple arrows and pierce but it's still the same thing. Just spamming the same ability, occasionally using a curse on yellow unique monsters, while having your fingers on the number keys to use potions. This is a key issue that needs to be of the highest priority on their to-do list.

It's also exactly why Blizzard did what they did with D3 in re: the skills and progressive skill rune system. Many of the runes are basically like new skills entirely, they change the original that much.

Still, for an 18 man dev team PoE is a fantastic accomplishment.

Thats the plan. There will be more skills [50+] and more support skills that changes skills drastically.
Still i'm amazed that You are using only one skill, i was using frenzy [for frenzy point generating], split arrow [as a spam skill] and damage skill like rain of arrows/explosive arrow for bigger and stronger packs + blood rage/phase walk for buffs and curse for debuffing and also sometimes corpse explosion when i was kitting. If i had more keys for skills i would use even more :p

But to be clear, PoE skill system wont be probably as active as Diablo 3, more like upgraded D2 path.

Ps. I wont get any new keys for now from Chris, because they want to use microtransactions and test how it will work, and those will grant keys.

Man really enjoying this game, But it feels like I'm rushing through for the sake of getting the most out of the weekend. Feeling kinda burned on this atm heh.

Really looking forward to this though. Would love to get some friends in on it aswell!

Those of you complaining about challenge need to hit ruthless and merciless ;D

My witch is around lvl 10 ish on normal difficulty and I'm starting to find it a challenge. I don't use any summons though, kind of playing her as a mage. I'm probably gimping myself that way but I'm enjoying it.

I love
the prison level.
Moody as hell heh. I just killed The Butcher..
ok, the Warden :p

Dude a lot of people hate how Diablo 3 looks. There is a reason for that.

As of global chat, do you really care? Seriously.

Also, he's only played act 1 of the first difficulty. But yes, more skills are going to be necessary.

Well, one can point at the first third of Act 1 of normal difficulty in D3 beta, and we can already see that you have far more skills to play around with in those first 2 hours than in the first 2 acts of Path of Exile.
