Pokemon TCG Pocket just dropped

Are God Packs just random or is there something you have to do to trigger them?

They're just extremely ultra rare (0,05%). The internet makes them seem more common than they actually are. I've already dropped a few hundred € on the game and I've 0 god packs and 0 crowns.

Yeah, I think Nintendo doesn't like you after taking your money. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm just sticking to my free packs and hoping one kicks in.

I heard 1 crown is worth 64 special tickets, so you could grab all the special ticket cosmetics.
how do you exchange a crown card for special tickets?

EDIT: oh I see, it's under the flair exchange, which is a strange place to put it since I wouldn't call special shop tickets "flair."

But you essentially need 3 of a high-rarity card to be able to use it, so no luck on my side yet.

Venasuar event dropped. Finally some SP content! I want that coin though, but can’t seem to find it. Any help?

So apparently you can complete the missions in these singleplayer events by just performing the task (e.g. put the opponents Pokemon to sleep) and then conceding. And by doing so you’ll complete the mission and get the reward without losing any Event Stamina.

Only wins in Expert Mode 100% guarantee a pack. So that’s where you should spend your stamina.

If you go first against a competitive deck, it’s virtually an auto-loss. It’s also far too reliant on EX cards (just like the real game).

Just noticed how aggressive this game is to “encourage” you to login every day. You can’t have more than two unopened packs. The pack timer just stops.

I did the free premium trial. It’s been mostly fun (especially stomping people with my Venusaur deck), and I got my gold emblem, but I’ll be retiring once the premium expires.

Downloaded this about a week ago and I've been hooked. I get that it's new but feel like it's gonna need more content though. Completed nearly all the battles, just have to finish up winning 20 battles in the final Venusaur event and that's it. I guess I could always just do the random battles online, but they really haven't been that enjoyable as the rest of the game for me though.

Also agree with a poster above. Going second is such a massive advantage. I get that the way it's designed and all but feel like if your playing against good decks, you need to go second or else the odds are heavily against you

I cant for the life of me summon up a Venusaur. I have better luck getting a Gold Mewtwo. Even the event isnt giving me a Venusaur. Wtf.

Its crazy, I got I think 6 Venusaurs a couple ivysaurs but just can't get Bulbasaur. Its wild 😂

I will say for Venusaur though, if you are able to beat the event on the max difficult, you get a card Everytime. I think there is only like 6 different Pokemon you can even get out of those packs, so your chances are pretty good there.

Ive gotten multiple Jiggly's, Onyx, Greninjas, Haunter. Just not Venusaur. Cooked.

The gold cards seem incredibly rare... my son and I each have about 1k cards now, and between the 2 of us we've pulled only one single gold. So that's 1/2k

Eh. I've already made a neat sleep deck. It does take ages to win though.

I love weird decks

All mine have different unusual combinations of non-EX pokemon. Getting a lot of mileage right now out of a water/leaf combination deck that uses dual Greninjas for bench attack + Victreebel for the special draw ability, then some fast 1-energy attacks for the rest.

My snakes + birds deck was also amazing. All of these are more fun to play than the standard EX decks that I find so mindnumbing.

I sort of like how balanced it actually is, mostly.

Sure EX cards do silly damage, but the two point loss of one when you only have three points is quite the disadvantage.

I also have an ekans/pidgey deck. Good fun to be had binding their pokémon, then swapping them around.

haven't really touched this recently. i've got most cards or at least it feels like that. i only get a new one every now and then. only having 3 types of boosters to open is boring. are we going to get new cards/expansions?

i've played a bunch of matches but i'm at the point now my cards just ain't cutting it. i'm getting my ass kicked and it's not even against other players. so i need to get better cards but doesn't feel like i'm making any progress.

have started playing the actual TCG live game. i suck at that too but seems much fun and i have got like 150 booster codes to redeem. still got 80 cards to redeem and have pre ordered 50 prismatic boosters.

Not entirely sure but I think there was some leak/datamine suggesting new booster packs this month or January.

I think there are two more cards I need until I can get the immersive Mew. After that all I really want is the immersive Pikachu card.

I hope the next boosters have some neat immersive cards as well.

Stop spending so much money on predatory crap right now. People like you are the reason why the videogames industry sucks.
Someone is actually spending money on this? I think this is proof that these games are predatory. Only someone vulnerable to gambling would be buying these pathetic packs. Two free packs a day not being enough is a red flag.

I only played for my two week premium trial. Those are the only packs I use. I stomp almost every deck I come across with Venusaur + Lilligant (and it is largely decided by the starting coin flip). The card variety out there is severely lacking. There are like three competitive-level decks, and I built one without even trying. If I had a second Mewtwo Ex, I'd have another. Why would anyone see a need to pay money for anything in this game?

EX cards could be worth a billion points and it doesn't matter if they win you the game once they hit the table. If you opponent isn't already setup with a strong counter, or an EX combo of their own, it's already over.

Most of my games end in 5-6 rounds via concession. What can someone do when my Venusaur EX becomes active in round 4 with full power (after their initial Pokemon is pounded by Lilligant)? The 20-card deck limit (plus literally unlimited energy) makes decks overly powerful, easy to get online, and boring.

Yeah, the game is broken. But as pointed out in this thread already, battling, especially with other people, is not even a tertiary concern of Pocket.

Still, a sleep or bind deck is a good way to annoy EX users.

So, uh, what do people do then? Are you implying that it's even worse than I thought and people are paying for virtual cards that they will not even use and no one else will ever see?

Ugh, one onehand this game looks absolutely incredible and fun to me. Having grown up with the Pokemon GB games. One the otherhand, a lot of it sounds predatory and the game is banned because of its gambling/lootbox mechanics in Belgium and the Netherlands.

I'd love to try this, but it's probably good that I can't play it...

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

Did you miss this?

This thing is pulling in ridiculous amounts as we speak.

That said I personally think the two-pack-a-day thing is pretty generous. Don’t really feel like I need to spend money on it. But I’m only in it for the card collecting.

Different strokes and all, but if you're spending hundreds on this game at this stage of... really not much there, then my God, no wonder this/these games do well.

It's weird and rude to come here and try to shame ppl that buy mtx, especially in this day and age.

It is really simple: if I like a product that I've spent decent time on, I'll gladly spend money on that product.
In the case of Pokémon TCG Pocket specifically, my goals were dex completion and having a variety of high tier decks. Having rare variants is a very nice bonus.

I'm not a hardcore TCG player, gacha whale (the actual whales spent a couple grand in the first weeks) or gambling addict (wtf?). I used to play Magic: the Gathering back when I was a teen and the only online TCG I've spent money on was Chron X back in the late 90's. I'm 41 now. I'm not going to seek out a bunch of awkward nerds with smelly armpit odour to spend my Sunday evening with. At most, I'll play a board game with my gf or friends. In that sense these 'useless, virtual cards', for me at least, are a huge QoL improvement compared to collecting actual real cards. Besides having to find live players, I'll gladly skip buying, collecting, sorting physical cards.

I do not feel this is any more predatory than physical TCG's, as meta decks that require at least some rare cards have always been the business model.
Also, if our government (I am Dutch) was seriously concerned about gambling, they would've restricted actual online gambling (which is a growing problem amongst the youth) and physical casinos. It is even more hypocritical considering Holland Casino is a state-owned company and has the legal monopoly on gambling in our country. But yeah, let's ban Pokémon TCG..., but only the digital version.

Had a fun battle just now with two Gardevoirs charging up my MewTwo Ex:

Good shit. Been using a similar deck in the full TCG live game using the other Mewtwo Ex that does additional damage for each psy energy attached to all Pokemon in play, so you can effectively keep backup Mewtwo ready without risking all that energy being discarded when they counterattack.

Though that is using Xatu to grab energy instead, I might try some Gardevoir action too.
