Shpeshal Nick of Xbox Era claims Switch 2 is $449 ($500 for Mario Kart bundle)

Even at $499, it will sell out for the first year easy with the early adopters around the world. Provided the software is there to support the system.

By holiday 2026, i suspect a Pokemon game is ready. Maybe they introduce a cheaper model at that point.

I need to see more Switch 2 games and really get an idea for what this thing can do. $500 is right on the cusp for me to be honest. I am not opposed to paying more for a console, but this makes me worry a bit as I feel it is going to delay a lot of people from getting one until there is a price drop. Nintendo might sell millions of systems to fanboys, but it sells 10's of millions of consoles to kids that parents buy for them.
It really does come down to games.
I do like what I see, but I need to see the games.

Can't these families sell their old Switches to recoup the cost of the Switch 2?
Switch price is going to tank. Heck, it’s already tanked. And since you will have millions of others do it prices aren’t going ti be great for sellers.

Plus it’s a pain overall. I think Switch 2 will of course sell out for the first months, but it will be interesting to see what happens long term if the price remains high.

Because like others said in the thread, for kids and families there is no huge driver to do quick updates and higher prices will impact this even more.

Nintendo knows that even at $499 they will sell out in seconds.
That's not the case. Just like Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo can't sell the Switch at a loss this time. Or at least not like previous gens.

Do you guys can also expect cross-gen titles at least for 1/2 years.

I think a big question on Switch 2's success is when Switch 1 gets discontinued by Nintendo.

I think if that's still available in stores then a lot of super casuals possibly still buy that?...

Yea.. I'm not paying over 400 for a Nintendo system. I really think to pull me in it would need to be $400 with Mario kart bundled in. Hopefully this system will be more flexible on price. Switch and Wii u weren't at all.

I paid $800 for a console with no games, I have no issue paying $500+ for a Nintendo console.

Day 1.

$450 for a PS4-level hardware, no OLED and no full backwards compatibility* would be insane.

*which means if you sell your Switch to buy the Switch 2, you won't be able to play all games

Sure.... if you believe the hardware is actually worth the price to begin with.

You are going to be paying $450USD to play Nintendo games and essentially PS4 ports....tough swallow in 2025....let alone 2026, 27....
Is it a tough swallow? It's a handheld first, and the only one that will play first party Nintendo games natively. It will play those PS4 ports in 4K with DLSS. I think the demand is there, at $450 it's going to be the best value handheld at launch. People obviously had no problem buying 160 million 2015-era Android tablets at $300 each over the last 8 years.

The Switch 2 won't play all Switch games. I'm not sure if it will be a just few exceptions, but the disclaimer at the end of the trailer wasn't encouraging.

Oh shit, no way? I didn't read it. Gonna watch it again now. Surely it will only be a few exceptions.

$450 to play PS4 ports is underwhelming. Also the biggest issue of the Switch is that 8 years later it's still being sold at $300. In 8 years the Switch 2 will still be $450...

Portables are supposed to be affordable because they aim for a bigger audience. There's a reason portable PCs don't sell that much (they are pricey)

Edit: I just realized Switch 2 games will likely be $70 too.

Yeah I wouldn't hold your breath on that:

There is no way Nintendo would ever release a console above the €399 price. Hell, even €349 was already a big ask for most of their fans.

The product is for everyone and the price should reflect that.
