Shpeshal Nick of Xbox Era claims Switch 2 is $449 ($500 for Mario Kart bundle)

Why would these families buy a switch 2 when the switch 1 is still fully functional and can play minecraft and fortnite?
I'm thinking this too.

The Switch, when bought by a parent to give to a child, is just an iPad. It's something to get the kid to occupy themselves in the car or at home.

It's going to sell well but I don't think it will hit the numbers of the OG Switch.

Has there ever been a console released which was sold for only $50 more than the current price of the prior generation SKU at the time of release?

Like for example if the PS5 was $499, then the PS4 was being sold for $449?

Since we know NS2 doesn't have an IR port, and the joycon are different size, we already know it doesn't have 100% BC. It's comparable to Pokemon Pinball.

It would have been even stranger had they announced full BC with no caveats. We would take it as confirmation the system did in fact have an IR port...or were lying!

Over $349 to $399 is a fat ass “no” from me dog. Between the fact that those plugs on each side for the Joycons wearing out in two years, and the power being equivalent to the early ps4…it ain’t worth it. Can you imagine the next Nintendo console in 8 years being as powerful as the ps5? Shit is laughable how they are a whole gen behind at this point, and seemingly have ran out of innovation. No reason this shouldn’t be called a Switch Pro, and not Switch 2.

There is no way Nintendo would ever release a console above the €399 price. Hell, even €349 was already a big ask for most of their fans.

The product is for everyone and the price should reflect that.
$400 in US is about €480 with EU VAT since US price doesn’t include taxes. So it depends on Nintendo’s profit per unit and how much they are willing to subsidize European customers.

It has to be attractive for kids and also as a present from parents to kids. 400$ isn't a attractive present. 299 or 350 is. The 4 makes it look too expensive.

If they want widespread, Switch-like success, the Switch 2 imo cannot be a penny over $399.99 and $449.99 with a pack-in is really pushing it. I think $500 would definitely hurt it’s sales potential long term especially since there’s strong competition in the portable market now.

Rumor is $399 (so $400) to $449 in US. So yeah, most likely this thing will be expensive :(.
No. Nintendo won't go above 399. That's just not how they roll. It won't go above 399. Either in Dollars or Euro.

It's a psychological thing. The 4 makes it look to expensive. That's why 299 is a great price and even 349 is.

With the OLED still being $349, I can't see them releasing the Switch 2 for less than $50 more. But maybe they'll positively surprise us!

the games they showcase better be magical. That Mario cart blurred background and DS looking graphics are not getting my 500.00. I know its not a games showcase but it looked so washed out and flat I was unimpressed with the game part.

The OLED will get a price reduction obviously. Nintendo will not release a console at 400 or more. It's all about the psychology behind the price.

The 4 makes it look expensive. And people don't associate Nintendo consoles with expensive normally, so doing that now would make a lot of people doubt about a potential purchase.

I wish I had your optimism haha. Do you see $399 being possible?

New dock clearly does a lot more. BOM definitely more expensive but not THAT much more to justify a $200 price jump on it's own. I think $500 is fair from a "yeah I'll use this for 5+ years" perspective. Probably saving room for a price cut down the road to $350-400 and Nintendo definitely wants to protect their current margins throughout the launch.
I highly doubt the Switch 2 Dock does much more than the OG dock. Its not like there will be some secret hidden GPU in there lol.

That would of been cool if they could pull that off. A throwback to the old SLI graphics cards.

Put an additional gpu in the dock and the Handheld and dock create a bridge gpu connection.

Yes, but only if it won't go above €399. So maybe $349 / €399. Nintendo wants to keep this product as interesting and accessible to as many people as possible. That's their whole thing. For a lot of parents Nintendo is still being seen as a "toy". When you go into $400+ territory you ain't a toy anymore.

350 when the Switch 1 hadn't ever gotten a price cut is very optimistic imo.

This is going to be $400/450 at a minimum, especially when you factor cross-gen into the equation.

Did you consider that in my example Nintendo would give all Switch 1 models a hefty price cut?

Possible, but I don't see why they should do so? It's not like they have a problem selling those Switch 1s, and like I said, cross-gen is going to last a while here.

Like I said before, Nintendo needs to keep the S2 as interesting for as many people as possible. Taking into account the huge library of S1 games, Nintendo needs to have some gap between the S1 and 2 to make sure people buy the S2. So, maybe a price cut wouldn't even be necessary.

As long as it doesn't go above $400. That's the main thing.

I think $400 is a reasonable enough price, but it will still be compared to Steam Deck at that price (starts at $350).

I don't see Nvidia of all companies cutting Nintendo a sweet deal on that SoC tbh.

Nintendo will do everything in their power to keep the price attractive to as large an audience as possible. They need to move units so they can sell their software.

My main questioning isn't whether they will do their best or not, we know they will.

But they are over a barrel from a bargaining position perspective because they have to go with Nvidia (because of backcompat).

Nvidia knows Nintendo intended price point and worked with them to make sure they hit the price lol

People acting like Nvidia is Nintendo adversary is a bit hilarious tbh
