The BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Official Thread [360/PS3] - Be Ready for the Rebel

MrDenny said:
I'm having trouble with the network.
Everytime I browse matches or join one, it freezes.
Help?

Wait for the little network bar to pop up between your drive cards. If it is has no bars(blue/purple) then don't play with them. If its red then don't play either. Just stick ot playing people with at least a yellow bar. Look for that, and you'll be fine. If it is still happening it must be your connection, because this game's netcode is amazing, and I know people with over a 1000 matches who play smoothly.

Yeah, don't be afraid to ask for a FR. I just started adding people left, and right even though I've been getting my ass kicked. You improve much more quickly, and you might get partners for other games as well.

Sure! I'll have to practice Ragna's basic combos a bit more first, if you don't mind... But I'll be ready soon, I promise. :p

My PSN Id is Artieficial. Go ahead and add. :)

I haven't seen the PR posted here yet, so to pre-empt any further questions over what is/isn't, might/mightn't be included in the Euroland version, this is all we know - officially - so far:

The 2D High-Resolution fighting spirit is here, with rebel action.... and ass kicking.

London: 14th August 2009. PQube is pleased to announce that they will be releasing BlazBlue across Europe on PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system.

BlazBlue is a new experience in 2D weapons based fighting games making exceptional use of the power behind the Next Gen consoles and online gameplay networks. The game is created by Arc Works Systems, the Japanese developers behind the critically acclaimed long running Guilty Gears fighting franchise which began in 1998.

BlazBlue has been hailed as the “game that every self-respecting console fighting fan should play”. It has already enjoyed huge success in Japan and critical acclaim in North America scoring above 90% in several specialist gamer Reviews. And a special Limited Edition has immediately sold through in USA, where it has recently been released.

This launch represents the first in the new partnership between Zen United and PQube. Dave Pain, from PQube, said “The long running 2D fighting genre has seen a welcome boost in 2009 with updated versions of several franchises brought to Next Gen PS3 and 360 consoles” and Tomo Ohno, Head of Zen United, reported “BlazBlue reached number 1 in the Japanese arcades and already sales of the Japanese and US console versions have beaten forecasts”.

The European version of the title will be fully localised into English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. It will include additional content – e.g. character strategy guide, music soundtrack from sold-out US Limited Edition. Plus new gameplay content not available anywhere, like new characters and moves.

Features:

  • For those new to fighting action the game has been specifically designed so it’s easy to pick up at the beginning, and an ever increasing depth introduces new and more demanding skills.
  • The game features an all-original goth-anime cast with intricately detailed hand drawn high-Definition character sprites. And they are a unique bunch indeed.
  • A Plethora of Defensive and Offensive Options at Your Disposal - Take advantage of Barriers, Counter Assaults, Rapid Cancels, Barrier Bursts, Ukemi Tactics and Distortion Drives to turn the tide of battle.
  • Drive your way to victory! Use the unique “Drive Attacks” specific to each character to decimate your opponent.
  • Console-Exclusive Content - Brand new music, animations, backgrounds, and a fully fleshed-out story mode have been made exclusively for the console release.
  • Online Battle - Train your skills online through ranked and player battles.

The planned release date is Q1 2010.

So, no tips on how to face Tager in general as Noel, fellas? He's my chokepoint in Score Attack. I can get past most everyone else easily.

Don't spam drive. Keep lots of pressure on him so that he can't even attack.

Tager has terrible antiair? What about his atomic collider?
Atomic Collider doesn't have a lot of priority (it straight up loses to any air move that's active), and has a lot of startup to boot, on top of this, if they are grounded, it doesn't put them in block, meaning you're completely open to be punished (and stuck in a counter-hit state).

Tager has quite a bit of anti-airs, but all of them have huge flaws. (2A only leads to damage on counter-hit, and doesn't hit directly above him, but it has good priority vs attacks that only hit above him). Backdash can be easily baited with spamming A attacks or simply good timing and 2C has even more startup than Atomic Collider, an has mediocre priority (but leads to LOTS of damage on counter-hit).

Ok is Tager's earth splitting ultra escapable? Because I was practicing today and I hit the throw button as soon as Tager grabbed me and I escaped it like it was a throw. There were no exclamation signs when he grabbed me. I'm pretty sure command throws are inescapable right?

Command throws are only escapable if the other person is still blocking/being hit (or just leaving the state). There's like a 1/10th of a second window where you are unable to be thrown after being hit/block even if you're capable of jumping/moving/doing a move.

It's otherwise completely inescapable through teching.

Edit: I should clarify that some moves aren't actually throws too, like Tao's tuna super and Noel's flippy grab, those are unblockable strikes that cannot hit a character in a crouching state. Tager's Atomic Collider is also an unblockable strike that only hits aerial opponents. You have to avoid these moves in some other way.

To answer the question, you probably missed a detail that would have changed the situation, because I highly doubt you would tech a 720 without the !!, unless you did it so fast that you didn't notice them, sometimes its hard to see the "!!"s if you do a tech before the 720, then he grabs you in blockstun with the 720. If you input a throw tech before you're thrown you'll automatically break any throws (of either the regular B+C variety, or the invalid command throw type) for a brief period of time after you attempted the tech, by the way.

Sorry if that sounded confusing, it's hard to phrase engine mechanics without using lots of technical terms.

Well, in the spirit of helping out...(or not)

I managed to grab a Taokaka at the end did their Tuna DD :D (As in, right before the attack connected with me) It felt so good. There are probably better ways to stop it, but it's always fun finding out what can/can't work with certain moves.

the most notable things I got from the PR was

New Characters
New Moves
Charater Strategy Guides

OK, thats cool and all that us europeans get all these extras, but wouldnt new characters and moves make online play fucked up as japanese and americans dont have none of that. Please tell me online will be worldwide and not restricted to your region.

most likely the data will be patched into all systems regardless of region so that it will still be compatible, but if you're playing randoms, you'll probably wanna play with someone in your region anyways to minimize lag.

Word on the street says the balance update for USA/JP is pretty much ready, but needs to be loketested in japanese arcades after SBO. Considering Europeans are getting a 2010 release, I would bet money that arcades will at least have the same stuff Europe is getting before the end of this year, and the DLC patch that's been rumored will happen before then too.

It's just Europe won't have to pay for the DLC, and we might.

Yeah I'm having trouble understanding that. So basically if I press the throw button, and then he grabs me with the 720, and I press the throw button again, I automatically tech out of it?

From what I understand, command throws are unescapable UNLESS they are in a combo. An unlinked normal throw gives you a !, and a block stringed or combo'ed throw gives you a !!. If a command throw is given during a block string or from a combo, I believe you a get ! and you can escape.

So if Tager did the 720 from a combo, you would have a chance to escape. If it's not, then it's unescapable.

Anyway, I played Blazeblue all day today after a week or so of break (and playing Valkryia Chronicles). I don't feel like I've rusted at all. I still rock/stink as much as I always have. Awesome! :)

Is there a wiki or webpage that has good combos listed for every character? I've only been using Ragna & Rachael since launch and I want to learn a few other characters. I can't really learn from youtube combo videos cause the moves go by so fast usually >_<

Hazama is clearly an act and his true form as Terumi can fuck shit up. Remember how he said only Rachel stood a chance against him?

kakutoubishinTaokaka (Nu) vs. Dora (Bang)
Kyaku (Carl) vs. Diechan (Litchi)
Fumo (Arakune) vs. BLEED (Litchi)
Eru (Rachel) vs. Chou (Nu)

Current top 8 in SBO, the rest of matches will continue a few hours.

He seems like a huge ripoff character of that guy from bleach Gin Ichimaru

Oichi

I'm like a Hadouken, down-right Fierce!
I'm at SBO right now...

HeartNana lost to Inoue (top player in Tokyo) but he didn't do as bad as the score indicated. If he was a little better I think HNana could've taken it.

Dora on the other hand, is a fucking GOD with Bang.

But we get new characters! It's like skipping BB and going straight to BB Turbo (or #reload, if you will)

Still would've been nice to dodge all these shenanigans and get the version of the game the rest of the world has, closer to release, though.

Level 34 on XBL(200 matches total 65,5% win ratio)Level 30 on PSN(90 matches total 66.9% win ratio) I started with Rachel on XBL, then went with Jin, and finally settle with Ragna. I was playing alot on XBL because I couldn't connect for two weeks on the PSN. Once I hit lv.30 on XBL, I didn't care for this game anymore. I just wanted the 200 trails achievement. I really hate the match-ups in this game. Arukune vs Ragna or Hakuman is Bullshit. 50%-60% damage combos are to easy to pull(I'm looking at you Noel)Is not fun when most of the match you have to put the joystick down and enjoy the show.

All it takes is one mistake in this game, and is a wrap! Most of the character's in this game don't have great wake-up moves at all compare to the likes of Jin and Litchi. This game is freaking Yugioh, setting traps and shit. I understand this is the first BB title, and the next one will improve alot of the BS match-ups and game system. But if the next one is still the same non-sense, I'm done. l

First off, 50-60% damage are hardly "easy". Look at the replay what the actual damage data says. And yeah, Noel can dish out 30-40% meterless if she gets you right. And Arakune vs Ragna? That's really not bad... unless you run into a really, really good Arakune.
But no matter how long you wait, this won't become a game for you. Traps are an integral part of the game, if you don't like them, stay away. It's already majorly toned down from GG where after a knockdown the question was "and how do I get away from the nasty wakeup setups"? And I mean really nasty.

Different games are for different folks and you are probably more at home with Streetfighter IV. Maybe give KOFXII a shot though wait if the new netcode patch coming end of August will do good.

I just wish more character's have better wake-up options like Jin and Litchi. I'm fortunate that I have a great Arcade scene and alot of my buddies live not that far away. So playing KOF locally is not a problem. same thing could be said about SFIV. But, to bad I always need to look for chairs at CTF for KOF, lol. Motherfuckers steal them for Tekken, lol.

I think it's good that more characters don't have good wakeup options, because a lot of the characters that don't have good wakeup options don't have them because if they did, it would make, say, zoning, a joke (I'm looking at you, Arakune).

The game's highly wake-up based by design. Even the good wake-up moves open them up to your combo of choice. That's actually very refreshing after the past decade of passing out too many invincible moves that offered little risk and huge reversal windows. Every time a new game in a genre does something a little different, people complain that it's not same enough.

What am I supposed to do when I'm getting wailed on up against a wall by a combo? I try to hold back to block it, but usually I'm already open and it's going too fast for me to find an opening. So I try spamming A to try to get some breathing room, but I can't usually land a blow.

I use Nu if that helps, but I'm kind of wondering if there's something general I can do for any character.

You could always burst, but that will cost you your barrier meter. Consider which is more important- the barrier guard, or getting out of a combo.

A less risky option that a lot of people forget is to Counter Asssault. If you have half a meter, press forward+a+b while in block stun to counter assault and you'll knock them off you for a bit. Otherwise, you just need to learn the pressure strings, block, and be patient and wait for an opening.

You could also try reversal DD (half circle back, forward+D), but that's risky.

yeah i'm becoming fond of that DD of Nu's, but I find that I can't pull it off easily without using Easy Specials.

Btw, do most people allow for easy specials when playing online?
