With GTA 6 looming, EA says it's willing to delay its "biggest ever Battlefield" to make its launch 'all it needs to be'

EA CEO Andrew Wilson had confirmed the publisher would be willing to delay its next Battlefield - currently expected to release before April 2026 - if "some things happening in the year" meant that "wasn't a great window for us".

Wilson acknowledged in a response to an investor question regarding the new Battlefield's launch window in its latest financial call. "I do believe that this year might be a nuanced year relative to competition," he admitted. "There may be some things happening in the year that may cause us to think differently about our launch timing."

Wilson also noted EA has "invested more in this Battlefield than any Battlefield before... We're looking for this to be the biggest Battlefield we've ever made." As such, the publisher "[wants] to make sure that we launch that into a window where we can deliver on the fullness of the promise of what Battlefield can be and grow the community to a level that is commensurate with the size of the game that we're making.

And while the publisher believes its new Battlefield "will be great and ready" for release in Financial Year 26, Wilson admitted, "If we got close to that timeframe and believed that this wasn't going to be a great window for us, then we would take a look at what an alternate window might be that would give us the appropriate time, energy, and player acquisition opportunity for this Battlefield to be all that it needed to be."

It isn’t just that many will buy gta6. Folks COULD buy more than one game in the same time period.

The issue is that gta6 will be all the internet and media coverage will be on for months leading up to release, at release, and after before anything else can get attention.

You’re wise to get the fuck out of the way. The delays let you polish and will lead to more revenue in the long term.

I do think rockstar needs to hit us with a gameplay trailer and a MP trailer, along with a release date already. It doesn’t effect them in anyway.

A lot of publishers are probably having the same discussions right now.
I would just stick for right now with your initial release date goals for this year. When GTA finally picks theirs then pivot.

It’s easy to delay a game and if you’re reason is get out of GTA6s way? That’s the best reason to avoid being completely ignored.

GTA dawg! it's tomorrow to see if it's GTA dawg!

can you believe that? GTA man, it's time to see if it's GTA dude!

GTA bro, release date and all! GTA t2mrrw, to see about it man! GTA man

I agree with them that it's best to avoid the GTA window. Although they released Titanfall 2 right between a Battlefield and Call of Duty title... So EA, can you apply those rules to your games so that you're not sitting there scratching your head wondering why Titanfall wasn't as successful as you thought it should have been? Cunts.

GTA 6 is getting delayed to 2026 anyway. They should launch the next Battlefield when it's ready and not when there's no GTA 6 around.

EA needs to understand that GTA6 launch time is the least of their concerns.

They have a TON of heavy lifting to do to get people like me to even pay attention or give a shit about battlefield again. I was a day one buyer for every single Battlefield game ever since Battlefield 2 on PC. I couldn't care less about the franchise now and I'll only buy this new one after it's been on the market for a bit and the general play base gives the thumbs up.

Also, in regards to the actual release timing. If GTA6 slips to spring 2026 (which is a likely possibility), EA is 100% gonna rush Battlefield out the door this holiday in a completely busted state, aren't they?
