The fact that PS5 is only 2.5 million behind PS4 as of last quarter despite not receiving the same price cuts as PS4. You asked that question and I answered. The only console shrinking is Xbox. Ps5 is on track with ps4 and at worst will still be selling better than any Xbox. Ps5 is keeping up with the ps4, even though ps4 was selling for 200bucks at this point in its life cycle while the cheapest ps5 is comparable in price to the ps4 pro.

Sony sequels not growing, titles not selling as much on console as they used to.

Sony's fastest selling game released in 2024. Before that the fastest selling was in 2023, before than in 2022. Two of them were Sony's fastest selling games while being console exclusives. Spiderman 2 is selling better than Spiderman 1, Ragnarok compared to God of war 2018. Gt7 is the 5th best selling gt game currently and on track to be the best selling gt game even though it hasn't had significant discount or price drop. Sony games are doing better than ever before on consoles.

It doesn't matter to the publisher of GTA if Sony is making the most revenue of every gen. They care about seeing the sales numbers reduce and PC gaming growing in sales. That's why these questions are coming up. It's not just Xbox flatlining. Customers are not buying millions of copies of games for third party published titles on PS5. Not more than last gen. Its reducing. are you just choosing to ignore that?

A bet on GTA 6 selling 6 million copies!? You would have to be insane to make that bet. It will sell 6 million copies easily on ps5 within a couple of weeks if not less I would imagine.

We're literally at halfway through the console's life (without the PS6). Most PS studios are literally working on PS5 games as we speak, GTAVI is going to release around the time PS5's lifetime sales are about to surpass PS3 and Xbox 360...how is that bad?

PS5 isn't already above PS4 for 2 reasons: Those covid years, and that price increase. It's pretty obvious by USA's sales that if that price never increased WW that the console would be doing better than the PS4. But somehow it's seen as "plummeting sales". There's also the fact that comparing 2024 and 2023...PS5 was ALWAYS going to lose. That was Playstation's peak year in sales. 22M consoles sold is honestly amazing when you think about it, and considering the best selling model was 550€ in Europe.

22m is not far off the total of series consoles sold right now. More than the gamecubes lifetimes sales, 10m short of N64 lifetime sales and only 2m short of the original xbox lifetime sales, just to put things in perspective.

So your evidence is a third party game that released at the same time as one of Sony's biggest first party games( Forbidden west sold more than elden ring on ps5 during its launch month in US), a game that released a few weeks before another one of Sony:s biggest games( gt7) at a time wherein ps5 was so supply constrained that it was selling worse than Xbox series consoles?

It's not a "minuscule" thing though; IGN have a long history of bias and favoritism towards Xbox, and when you've got people like Ryan McAssfery and (until recently) Destin Lebakery, both rather hardcore Xbox fanboys, working for the outlet in a professional capacity, that bias & favoritism tends to turn into FUD and negativity towards Xbox's perceived enemy. Which for generations, has been PlayStation.

With that type of history and people among the company, it's no wonder they write headlines like this as if to insinuate Xbox's problems are PlayStation's problem, or that PlayStation is going through the same level of problems as Xbox. Ironically, that fits directly in with talking points Philnochio Spencer started putting out among game media outlets early last year. The idea that Xbox's death spiral in the console market isn't the responsibility of Microsoft Gaming or Phil making years of horrible mistakes, but that it's simply the industry itself declining. And with that, this equally stupid idea that Microsoft are going to lead the industry doing some incredibly novel, forward-thinking platform strategy to "save gaming" while being 10 years ahead of Sony and Nintendo.

When the actual truth is, Phil and the rest of Microsoft Gaming don't want to admit that they're the reason Xbox as a traditional console is basically dead, don't want to admit that getting greedy and buying massive 3P publishers both gave any sort of relevance to Microsoft Gaming while at the same time guaranteeing they become a 3P publisher. Don't want to admit that they are basically a 3P publisher the same way SEGA ended up becoming, but purchased enough major IP and are a big enough company to try distracting from the fact they are basically pulling a SEGA.

As for IGN, I don't even need to say much else about them. They're a has-been website filled with professional shills and hacks, and the only two people gaming-wise over there I have respect for are NXGamer and John Linenmann (you know, since IGN acquired Eurogamer which basically owns Digital Foundry. Great :/). And I guess I have some respect for Rich from their Saturn magazine days but that's about it. He isn't far off from Alex, who we know is a complete Xbox/PC fanboy and you don't even have to look at the secret Discord stuff where he and buddies coordinated FUD against PS5 to know that.
