Is it completely irrational that whenever I see a game announced with pre-order bonuses and retail exclusive content, that I automatically mentally put it in my 'do not buy until deeply discounted' list?

That stuff drives me nuts.

The irony is that the only recent game I've pre-ordered at full price is Diablo 3, and that's basically because Blizzard didn't pull any of that shit.

Everyone's skipping over the return of Psycho. Co-op maybe?

EDIT: Nah, they'd mention that. Still, it's good they didn't kill him off.

Psycho is awesome.
"I am british you muppet!"

ninja edit: maybe the only character in Crysis that has some kind of character.

Same Alien design from 2? :/

The bipedal robot aliens were such a downgrade from the ones in the first game. Definitely looks like more of an expansion pack from where I'm looking. Same tech, same enemies, same gameplay, new environments.

They say in that interview there are more aliens, they just aren't showing them yet.

They should put out Crysis: Warhead on console in the meantime.

If it helps, in this case the preorder stuff is only for MP and it sounds totally inconsequential.

Can someone explain to me why the aliens in Crysis 2 look nothing at all like the ones in Crysis 1?

You've got to be kidding me. The enemies in Crysis 1 were fucking garbage. They LOOKED fantastic, but they were not even remotely fun to engage.

Fortunately they accounted for very little of the game so it didn't ruin the experience, but the changes for Crysis 2 were a definite improvement.

They DO need to work on the AI and increasing the number of enemy types.

In the time frame between 1 and 2 they packed their alien bodies into exoskeletal frames to help them get around the new environment.

I believe they specifically explain this point at some point in the game.

But they could, like, fly and hover and shit. Need they be more mobile than that?

If Crysis 3 is gonna have multi, I hope to hell Crytek will seperate the EXEs like the COD games. Having all the CVARS locked down as an anti-cheat measure was lazy and killed tweaking; one of the main draws of Cryengine.

This game sounds more like "Crysis Ultimate Hunter" rather than Crysis 3.

The plot sounds especially dumb as hell even by vidya standards. Graphically looks about the same as C2 to me.

I enjoyed Crysis 2 for what it was but it's hard for me to get excited about another Crysis set in NYC.

Same here. C2 did not evoke the same sense of place as GTAIV, and while it looked nice, the art design was pretty standard military fare for the most part. Outside of the suit elements, it was a pretty rote shooter.

And seeing the pattern of EA-published-2-year-development-cycle rearing it's head again does not fill me with confidence.

What?

I'm gonna wait before pre-ordering. I don't give a flying fuck about Prophet, really.

You play as Prophet who is getting seriously fed up with being kicked around and he wants to do what is right. He’s taking matters into his own hands and he has a strong goal – one I cannot talk about now. But as part of succeeding with this, he will take on Cell as well as the Ceph and avenge the past. In doing this he partners up with a usual suspect of the Crysis franchise – Psycho aka Sergeant Michael Sykes, who we all remember from Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead.

It's just a tech demo. Epic, has, no plans to make that into a game....ever...

:(

doesn't mean we aren't seeing elements of something that will turn up in a game later on. the early UE3 demos and Gears of War shared a lot of visual elements. it's probably something similar to the Audition > Heavy Rain.

i'm sure we'll see a game in a very similar universe.

i love the screen shots of the jungled up New York. i wonder what other environmental styles we're talking about.

Yup. Sci-fi guns are the worst guns in any game that has normal weapons.

They usually look lame and don't feel satisfying. Give me bullets any day.

Perfect Dark had some rad alien weapons that I thought were really fun to use. Taking down a Skedar or friend in multiplayer with fully charged dual-wielded Maulers was immensely satisfying.

Alien A: I don't want to fly around freely anymore.
Alien B: Yes, let us walk around on two legs, this'll give us a combat advantage.

I like plasma weapons. :/

Also, the K-Volt and Microwave weapon from Crysis 2 were alien weapons already, basically.

I like the art direction. Day 1 if there's a MP beta and its highly improved over C2's MP netcode.
Otherwise I'll pick it up when its used for $20

I'm on board with this. I don't own a gaming PC so my first experience with the franchise was Crysis 2. I played through the single player campaign fully maybe 5-6 times. That's not counting times when I just jump into favorite missions and play through them.

When Crysis 1 became available on PSN I also picked that up and loved it as well. Even though the levels were probably shrunken a bit because of console limits I could still see what PC gamers had loved about the game.

So fun not having to follow a rigid path through the campaign. Picking how you choose to play out your encounters is great fun in both games.

One wish I have though is that if they could get a more stable framerate in the console versions. Both Crysis 1 and 2 at times felt more like they were running at a 25fps average. But since they're probably pushing better graphics the framerate will suffer again. :/

If they could optimize it first, get it running at 30fps 99% of the time then make it pretty that would be so good.

The boxart looks hot. Would've been cool to have the protagonist becoming partially invisible to play on the predator-prey theme it seems to have.

Overall I'm not sure how I feel about Crysis. I felt that the game was disappointing from a narrative and gameplay perspective. I didn't feel emotionally infested in the story and was simply going through the paces. They didn't take advantage of the verticality that was present in the game and the enemies were dumb as doorknobs. Guns lacked feeling and enemies weren't varied but hopefully this changes with this installment

Nah, they didn't shrink any of the levels impressively enough, but they did really have to cut back on the draw distance in a lot of areas.

I bought Crysis 2 when it was on sale at Amazon and I'm playing through it now. The tech is amazing, but boy, does this game really emphasize just how important good writers are in game development The plot and the characters are just so generic and boring, that I've found it very difficult to really care about what I'm doing and Alcatraz's actions in the game. I mean Halo feels like "War and Peace" in comparison to this game. It's too bad, because the engine really is amazing (too much bloom though).

Haha OK OK you got me

Where is the logic behind that?
Maybe he's thinking split screen

I know I'm in the minority but I thought the story was OK in C2, as far as sci fi/shooter video game stories go. I think it compares favorably with say Halo 3's story, or Gears of War 1/2.

I don't get it. How are you playing as Prophet?

Didn't he fuse or whatever with Alcatraz? Or did he take over his body at the end?

Not excited for this. Crysis 2 was way too pared back on the PC and the controls suffered from being streamlined for consoles.

The jungle NY thing just sounds like they want to reuse assets to throw something out quick. EA online pass sound about right too.
