GTA 6 costing $100 could help the industry rebound??

With inflation, $100 is actually around what a game should be costing soooooooooooooooooooooooo

From 2006 at $60, that is basically $97 or so in todays money

So yea, I think it would help the industry rebound big time. Prices increase all over, as what you are paying for Netflix, Amazon Prime, a Big Mac, Eggs, Milk, a Movie ticket etc isn't the same from 2006, why the fuck would the price of such an expensive medium magically say the same with zero repercussions?

Yet some of you fucking wonder and cry and bitch about GAAS and MTX in games? lol

Increase the price, if you broke get a better job, let the games that fail, FAIL and let the games that make sense, get the reward and wait for a sale for everything else or something.

That $100 makes more sense then many care to admit.
Because GTA online is single handedly carrying Take-2 as a publisher what crack are you smoking homie? There's been several leaks saying this game is over a billion dollars in budget and I can guarantee you it'll have ZERO tech showing where that money went because we sure as hell aren't going to be toppling skyscrapers or having physics laden gunfights with massive amounts of damage and body reactions

They'll also release it on console only for a year or so. Just to get people to buy it twice.

I won't be buying it for that reason. I get that it can take longer to finalise a game on multiple PC configs but the length they take is absurd and doesn't excuse that.

Remember, there have been a lot of analysts for huge corporations that deal with gaming that fucked up real hard the last few years and the result was 2024's massive failures.
They are not always the smartest bunch when it comes to greed.

I also don't think inflation arguments work here, there are far more people buying games today than 10 or 20 years ago.
They still make lots of money exactly because they're not priced too much, because more people are buying it.
Gaming is bigger than hollywood and music, they don't need more money.

EDMIX why do you want the prices to be higher? How does it benefit you?
Why don't you want it to be more accessible?

With MH Wilds this year, I'll just wait for a sale.
I just bought the steelbooks edition for $75 so I don't have any problems spending top dollar for games I'm really interested in. Problem is the average games. Who the hell is going to pay premium prices for those products?

If game development costs too much then maybe reduce the scope so it doesn’t take 7 years to make that shit.

It would also help me finally finishing a AAA instead of getting bored after 40 hours and not even being halfway through…

How would the "gaming industry" benefit from people paying more money for a singular behemoth product than instead spending those $30 (if we assume $70 price) to other games and developers ?

It seems like it would be much better if GTA was cheaper and people can support other projects too.

stop gatekeeping. video games should not be a rich person's hobby.,
its my gate and I do what i want with it

i said it somewhere else already but i compare games to cinema ticket prices, last time i went to the cinema i paid 20€ of pure ticket price for a 2h movie
wouldnt mind a 100€ GTA 6 because its GTA 6, most other games could still fuck off at that price point - it would still serve as a bad example for grifters like Ubisoft and EA

One game making more money than it's already going to make is going to suddenly make executives from other companies not retarded? No.

Sure, but the job of the industry is to make money, if this is to be seen as a luxury item then so be it, we cannot have such a wild demand for bigger, better and more advanced games, while trying to keep the same price for decades.

Something ultimately will have to give.

Other industries have addressed this by simply increasing the price.

Those that can buy day 1 will, those that can't will wait for a sale. I say, put that shit at $100 and let the industry sort itself out lol

I'm on board with $100 being the standard for AAA games start of the PS6 generation.
While I agree with you, Thing is video games base prices are stuck at a hard top limit. Nobody dared to raise prices more than 60 when it was the standard, same for 70 etc.

And who increases those prices? It's always Sony who leads the charge at the start of the new generation. Without them, nobody would ever dare increase it in the first place.
So It'll increase to 80 for usa at the start of the ps6 generation and that if Sony does it.

So what's the solution here: Ambitious game developers simply need to have the guts to increase base prices when they launch a huge project. For example, BG3 could have been 80 when it launched.

However, before launch, nobody has the guts to believe in their project to put the base price above what is the industry standard. So while they're hoping for GTA 6 to do it because 'it can get away with it', it likely wouldn't be something Rockstar does as they already are expected to break records without what is a financial risk by putting it above the industry standard.

In the future, this 'race to the bottom' will keep occuring and F2p will be the ultimate winner if games like Fortnite haven't proven that already. With budgets falling due to AI, this isn't neccessarily a bad thing but it will lead to a huge amount of quantity of games with niche customers.
