I want to try this mod when I get home, it looks good

That looks pretty good but the eye textures stand out as they're not as high quality.
I generally think the faces look very good as they are. It doesn't look it from the comparisons on that mod but the original faces look great in game (texture wise, animations are a bit lacking).

I had to force myself to go to the wedding after 15-20 hours but there was easily another 20++ hours of content or probably more to do.

The game is already pretty fuckin easy, being extremely over levelled before even starting the game would make the remaining 95% of the plot a joke.

This is why I am waiting for the hardcore mode before jumping in (I already bought the game though)

This game is a tier above the rest, imo. Its "side quests" are better than most games' main quests. Its "tasks" are better than most games' side quests.

It follows naturally that its main quests are GOAT.

I have 48 hours logged so far. I freaking love this game. I played it 3 days straight Friday-Sunday, and the only reason I'm not playing it right now is stupid work.
I got the early access version of Civ 7 for $100 but I ended up playing KC2 all Friday-Monday. Didn't touch Civ 7 at all.

I just had a main-plot required 1on1 fight, where I 1-shotted the enemy. Definitely over-levelled.

I unequipped armor and the game quickly turn into hardcore sim again. It's amazing and kind of makes sense how the difficulty nosedives once you put some plate on your ass.

For now I just have gambeson and ataman's saber for that wayfrarer drip, and each bout keeps me on my toes

I get what you say, but if there is something i hate more than an easy game, is when i purposely need to nerf myself to have a challenge, balancing the game is the dev job, not the player.

Armour does what it was meant to do, I like that. Though you can easily get comboed to death later in the game as well.

When Henry does not have armor or a good weapon and goes up against someone who does, Master Strikes alone don't damage the bad guy. It was a nice change of pace. And now I know how all those random bandits feel going up against my fully-plated Henry 😄

There would be an easy way to solve this...just scale the enemies to yr level. But this is, in my experience, the most hated "feature" in RPG's...because it totally destroys any sense of progression/power creep. (I hate it as well btw.)

When the core of the game runs on experience (much like Elden Ring, although they did introduce a new mechanism to balance for over leveling for the DLC) it's difficult to balance for all types of playstyles (even looking at stats post-launch), especially when some people are spending a "ridiculous amount" of time (i.e. having "too much" fun) on the sandbox instead of progressing the main quest.. I mean, they could do level scaling, but I bet NOBODY wants that. Idk 🤷‍♂️

Renodx HDR mod is out, and it works well. Better than RTX HDR imo:

It conflicts with optiscaler though, so no injecting framgen with the hudfix for now.
I wonder if this also fixes horrendous black crush in HDR during night on my latest gen QD-OLED configuration... Maybe not?

No idea, I'm using an LG C1 OLED and haven't came across any black crush either with sdr or rtx hdr/renodx hdr. It should in theory expand the colour range so if you are getting SDR black crush it may help?

I don't know how to balance the rpg aspect but you can always balance the combat by making the combat more skill based than stat based, that way you can level up for 50 hours but if you are not good at the core mechanics you are always gonna lose.

In a game like sekiro, you can do all the sidequest and powerups and still die dozens of times against some bosses\enemy encounters, in gow ragnarock at max difficulty i died as much as in the first hour as i was dying after 100 hours, but that introduce the problem of the main character never feeling super powerfull and many people love their power fantasy.

But yeah it's really hard to perfectly balance a game, almost impossible really, i guess they did a good job with kc2 because many people are having much harder times than to make me think that i'm playing a different, much easier game (not a brag, i usually die hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times in hard games).

I think that not having a challenge destroy the sense of progression more than having unfair enemies that level up with you.

When you have a costant challenge, you are happy even for the smallest upgrade but if you have no challenge finding new loot is meaningless.

I know i'm in the minority but i really enjoy getting my ass kicked for the whole game, it make exploration much more rewarding and it is certaintly better than the alternative.

Right now i'm not excited to find better armour or weapons because i already kill everything with ease with my simple longsword and my second rate armour, yesterday i was free to steal everything from the castle where you
save Al capone
but i didn't even wanted to waste my time because i don't need it, and when you don't wanna loot a room in an rpg, it's a problem, at least for me.

That's strange, cause I be tearin hoes up with just my fists sometimes for fun as I'm too strong now. Maybe I haven't met well armored foes yet

I genuinely think this game may have the best crime system I've seen in a RPG.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it's completely bulletproof to exploits once you get familiar with the way it works (then again what game mechanic can really claim to be?), but it does a pretty damn good job being generally consistent and nuanced in the way it handles some aspects of being spotted, suspected, accused and caught red-handed (literally).

I wonder if fists use blunt damage, and that's somewhat effective on armor? I'm talking about using a hunting sword on armor, in a side quest battle, specifically, and a Master Strike alone wouldn't damage the guy. I had to follow it up with combos to do damage.

I mean you dont loot for better wepaons/armor in KCD (it very rarely happens you find real upgrades, most good stuff comes from mission rewards or you just buy it)....you loot for money...I do at least. Lots of stuff costs money....bath houses, repair kits, skill books, trainer, taverns etc pp.

Maybe the "hardcore mode" will suit you better. Its a pitty it didnt come right away for all the masochist & god gamers out there. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I think that not having a challenge destroy the sense of progression more than having unfair enemies that level up with you.
I am fine with that....I dont need constant challenge. Oneshoting enemies in the late game is like a reward for me for the previous whole leveling progression.

However I agree, that this point of being overpowered might come a tad bit to early in KCD. But there is so much content already on the first map....and there is this "fomo" if you dont clear the whole map before progressing the main quest. Over leveling is than just the natural consequence. Maybe if there would be some hints from the game which says...."hey this wedding main quest should be done ideally at level 8-10" might help. 🤷‍♂️

Anybody know what's up with the Milanese Plate Leg Armor? They're far and away better than other equipment I've found.

I got the Milanese back in the first area, Bronze-quality. They sell for 600 Groschen. Even when finding Gold-quality armor pieces that go for 4000+, they're nowhere near as good.

The Milanese equips to two slots (legs and feet), and I think it's double-counting its effectiveness--may be a bug? Whereas all the leg armor I've found only equip to the leg slot. And I've not found a leg + foot combo that's better.

just started my first quest (search for Pavlena) and am pretty hooked.

Did check out her boyfriends house and ate all his food (letting it rot would have been a waste :messenger_smirking: ).
Following a lead to a clearing, I killed a lonely hog on a meadow for its meat just to be informed that poaching is a crime. Thankfully, no one saw me butchering this poor pig like a lunatic with my sword...
Covered in pig-blood, looking like a killer on the loose, I eventually crawled out of the woods to ask hogherd Hugo if he
had seen the murderer of Roman, Pavlena's lover, I found just a view minutes ago.
God, I was so fucking lucky that Hugo is so gullible and didn't call the guards.
He, for whatever reason, didn't suspect me at all and told me where to look for a guy who might be involved.
Well, on my way to this fellow, I went to Roman's house again, curing the meat of the hog (that hopefully wasn't Hugo's) and consider taking over the house :messenger_beaming:

Usually I don't give a fuck about quests in games, but this stuff is seriously intriguing and fun :messenger_grinning:

There are other cases like that with clothing e.g. some clothes that are cheaper and bronze quality having better stats/buffs than more expensive and higher tier clothes. Not sure what the rationale is.

Kingom come 1 question:

I wish I understood this fucking combat system. I really do.

But I just don't get it man. I've been gaming for 30 years of my life, and this is like the first time some game system has just completely gone over my head.

I know there is something there. People are enjoying it, but I don't understand how they understand it but I don't.

People say "train with Bernard". I just did again for like 2 hours. I landed 1 hit.

Someone said "learn master strikes". But I can't......because I have to fucking beat Bernard to go it.

I'm on the verge of deleting this game and just washing my hands of this whole franchise.

Henry asked Erik in the 1st game if they were gay. Erik said they didn't, just a close father/son relationship

Combat is simple, watch what your opponent is doing and trick them.

If your opponent is left handed and is holding their weapon to their left, what would you do? You'd attack their right side which they're in position to swing over to block, then attack their left which they'll need to swing back for and then you attack their right side. That's the most basic of combo's. Another is if they have their weapon above their head. They're can block the head and are waiting for a stomach stab. Instead attack their side and then go back to the head. When you think about it, it's just following common sense. The longer your combo is, the harder it is for your opponent to guess your plan of attack.

Game needs accessibility features like being able to upscale the HUD. Some of the menus and such are difficult to read when playing on a TV and not right at a computer screen

Pro tip for extra 10-15fps, enter this console command:

e_svoti_AsyncCompute 1

(sorry if old)

As it names suggests, this enables async compute on the global illumination system.

I uninstalled it. I wanted to like it. I kept going back to it. What ended my run was I was 1 step away from the castle, so I took on a bunch of other quests. I kept circling around the objective, leaving for periods of time, going wherever I wanted. Where I ended up was getting arrested for murder, being branded, and now everyone ignores me for barter. Not only that, but each quest felt like I was circling some kind of may pole without a real reward. I spent my points on skills I thought would be useful and I was a level 9 or so.

I want to like it, but it’s been such a time sink already. It’s an addicting playstyle, but the rewards aren’t that great if you ask me. I feel less control than I do in most games. Maybe I’ll go back someday. I’d rather fight Malenia back to back.

What’s weird is, I thought I was going to really click with this game. Oh well.

This is something I will never understand. Just let me scale up the UI/HUD elements. It can’t be that hard to implement. Ím having a hard time using the navigation bar as I can’t tell what symbols belongs to what quest. Makes it really painful to navigate sometimes. This is something that should be included in every console game

Just never attack first...never. Always wait for yr opponent to attack first...than (perfect) block....than try immediately to hit them afterwards. As Gymwolf already mentioned in this thread, you are basically invincible this way. When yr stamina is depleted, dodge backwards, bring distance between you to recover stamina and wait again for yr opponent to attack.

Just doing perfect blocks (and no counter) also replenishes your stamina.

I didn't, i sold like 10 potions total, most of my money come from selling the loot from bandits.

Also, using a feature of the game is hardly exploting something, it's not a cheat, the game teach you how to make potions in the first 2 hours and plants are fucking everywhere, every dude that is not playing his first videogame ever can do 2+2=22.

And i was not talking just about the economy, combat has been a breeze since the beginning.

KCD has always had that "problem". It's really more of an action game than an RPG in its combat - if the player is good enough, combat will be easy relatively independent of Henry's current stats.
KCD2 combat is still better, because way less buggy/janky, but it's still the same system suffering from the same issues.

And if someone has played KCD already (or games with very similar systems like Mount & Blade or Mordhau), they'll likely have a too easy time without mods.
I can recommend this one:

It doesn't completely change the combat, but basically ups the frequency and variance of AI actions, so it's a bit tougher to keep up with them.
