Mat Piscatella: Despite "a rocky couple of years" Xbox's "future is actually looking pretty bright"

If Microsoft is going to make most of it's growth due to being a 3rd party and their hardware market share keeps decreasing..........they'll be better off calling it MS Gaming.

It would be less confusing, that's true, although I don't think "Microsoft Gaming" sounds great. To my ears, it sounds like "MegaCorp Gaming, Inc." I think "Xbox" sounds slightly more gamer-friendly. And MS has dumped a lot of resources into the Xbox brand over the years. So I can understand them wanting to use it during this transition. It's confusing, but it's what they have available.

Oh okay, so you at least understand that MS is trying to hide their hand with this "branding change". As long as that's understood then all good. And I agree it is a lame change.
I think the terminology muddles things, but it's nothing particualrly new. I've been pointing it out a lot lately, the "This is an Xbox" campaign is just a dorky extension for what Microsoft has been doing for years. I mean if you buy one of their games via the PC store you own the game on both PC and console.. that's been going on for ages.. the line has been muddled, cloud further muddles it.

I'd rather they have a better differentiator between Xbox Hardware and "Xbox the brand" but it's not something I get bent out of shape over and think people need to kind of get over it.

And you will likely see Sony doing the same thing in some of their PR/financial results. Someone buying PC games that require a login to the Playstation Network.... someone buying a PS Portal only for cloud access.... these are Playstation users.

CEO of SIE/PS said:
However, we are also seeing an increase in the number of PCs and other different styles, so we are in the process of thinking about how to increase the number of PlayStation users overall,

I mean you buy a PC game, and are required to have a PSN login.. you can use PS VR on.. PC.. you can use DualSense on PC and it has full feature support in some games, etc.,etc.

I think the bolded goes hand in hand. It will never make sense for Sony as long as they are competiting for console market share. I think it does make sense for Sony if they can get 30% of all PSN-GamePass subscription money and have a GamePass version that's dedicated to Playstation only. Similar to PC GamePass has different games than Xbox GamePass.
I see the logic in that, I think Sony would consider saying yes to a version of Gamepass that only had Microsoft games (but not COD).

Official Sony policy is to not acknowledge a competitor console exists.

Bethesda had to make a PS-specific Doom: The Dark Ages trailer that only showed the PS logo and not including the Xbox or PC logos at the end.

That’s IF Microsoft can CONTINUALLY execute with quality games from their acquisitions. and if history is to go by, Microsoft has a really bad track record with CONTINUALLY Executing with quality games after acquiring developers.

Because of that, maybe 2025 will be ok but what about 5 years from now?
Cry harder lol

Thanks for sharing!

Why are you trying to put the jinx on COD? The other guy isn’t exactly wrong about the poor track once studios are under their fold. Not something to laugh about in my opinion.
What poor track record after acquisitions. Psychonauts 2, Cod, Hifi Rush, Pentiment, Starfield, Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and Pentiment all were good games after acquisitions. You guys keep using antiquated Fanboy talking points to sow doubt about Xbox it sad and see through. Now you go stand next to him and cry harder lol.

Cry about what weirdo? And why you calling people fanboys of, wait, what do you think people are even fanboys of? Think about that question for a minute. Did you not get the message that there’s no benefit for hoping negative energy onto MS gaming since everything is an Xbox anyway?

OMG..........I never thought of that. But if Sony does this same dumb crap it's going to piss me off so much lol. You maybe right, but I swear it's going to piss me off if they call PC gamers playing a VR game with PSVR2 "Playstation Gamers". I swear man......

Weirdo? Psc you messaged me defending another man 🤡. You backed a fanboy argument that once acquired by MS, studios do worse. I showed how wrong you and apparently your boyfriend is. Now either prove the statement your defending is right or stfu psc.

That's as dumb as saying the future looks bright for Ubisoft despite a couple of rocky years with the all the flops such as Prince of Persia, Star wars Outlaws, Xdefient, Skull and Bones, Avatar, and the delay of Assassins Creed Shadows with all it's controversy, and with their stock price dropping of a cliff.

But with the simultaneous launch of Shadows on Stream and consoles this years, and the potential sales to Tencent this years, it could only go up from here (rock bottom). The future indeed looks bright for Ubisoft.

As a 1st party publisher with its own ecosystem and platform, MS absolutely is a failure and they do not have any future. The only future for them is going 3rd party, being forced by the competition and the market to do so by getting trounced in sales

Those were already cooking pre acquisition. Microsoft in general has trouble managing creative teams, we've seen that over the decades.

I can see them counting portals that aren't connected to ps5s because cloud only you are paying for ps premium. Can't see them counting psvr2 users on pc (based on psvr2 pc adaptors sold?)

Seriously, 2025 is gonna be a hell of year for Xbox and gamepass. Avowed, South of Midnight. Doom, Clair Obscur, Fable, OuterWorlds 2 and more. That’s one crazy ass year.
I would've agreed 2-3 years ago. But now, all those games, except Doom could easily flop. Then they're f*cked.
