actually did a quick check and it seems I did not own the deluxe packs for world, iceborne, rise or sunbreak, which seems to check out with how I used extra cosmetics.
So ultimately I went for the regular edition for mhwi, I'm sure they'll have plenty of cool enough cosmetics or music packs I'll be willing to purchase later on, but I've just never felt these deluxe pack cosmetics.

Very excited for my first MH game. Now I just need to decide what weapon to pick…
Check out some Youtube "which weapon for you" videos to help find your answer. Especially if you missed out on the betas and are completely fresh. Here's one uploaded a few days ago.

And for the ol' veterans I stumbled on this old video that was way, way back in my list of favorite videos.

This is the first one since the Wii U MH that I'm really not hyped for. I played the beta for a bit on PC and it was pretty underwhelming. I also feel a bit tired of their formula when it comes to release schedule, we really only get half the full experience until they release a huge expansion with extra ranks and everything, so I will probably wait until that is out to jump into this one.

I personally really like their release schedules when it comes to their expansion. It gives me enough time to fully enjoy high rank and complete my build before master rank gets released instead of rushing to get to it.

It also gives me time to take a break after completing high rank to catch up to my other games while checking back time to time for free title update.

I disagree. Playing through World with friends, grinding for things there, getting strong and then much later getting Iceborne with a lot of new toys to play with felt great.

In contrast, when I played Rise, Sunbreak was already there and it made playing through Rise feel meaningless, since everything would get thrown out as soon as I hit Sunbreak. It didn't help that the Rise base game was pretty bad.

I played the hell out of world with my wife and ended up skipping iceborne though i may actually own it... need to go back and look. (prob should at least create a save there for the cosmetic bonuses in wilds) I dont think i will ever go back to world as awesome as it was even with the Iceborne expansion (that i never played) i supposed i will just jump over to wilds and put ton of hours into it with the wifey again. *Damn just checked, i actually DO own Iceborne but never played it.

Ok so i started up the Iceborne expansion on both my wife and my accounts and made sure the monster hunter and iceborne saves are on our local consoles... though i'm reading conflicting details online as to how far into Iceborne we need to be to get the cosmetics? Some websites say you have to go into the ancient forest and defeat the first monster but the capcom website itself says we just need to get the save on the console and load into the ancient forest itself? Hmm

*Ok i ran through the beginning pointless section following tracks and saw the large ICEBORNE screen and returned to the council table and saved... hopefully having one Iceborne save counts for both World and Iceborne? Cause i checked and i only have a single console save.

Pardon the noob question - I don't know much about the series - but is Monster Hunter primarily focused on multiplayer, with SP being sort of a tacked-on, subordinate function? Or is the SP robust enough to make it worthwhile for someone who just plays that mode?

I played the entire Monster Hunter World/Iceborne solo and never touched multiplayer.

I wouldn't say either mode is "tacked on", both methods are perfectly viable methods of play; heck I would argue that getting familiar with the monster by yourself so you don't drag down the team in mp is the preferred approach.

The monsters get more health if there are more people but you can do it solo. Back when I played them, certain monsters were better to do solo because people would die to them online and wasting 20 minutes because of someone else sucked.

Saw some leaked returning monsters that are in the game along with some datamined stuff. Also what I imagine to be the "secret" high-rank boss that most games have. I guess I'm pretty happy.

Fulgur Anjanath and Ebony Odogaron seem to be back

There's a really weird tentacled nightmare reminiscent of Lovecraft horrors

The datamine found Gogmazios info. Update for the base game or expansion? Who knows.

Take all of the above with a grain of salt.

Anyone here console/game share to play with friends n family? I preordered this and downloaded everything on my main console first... a bajillion separate downloads for the ultimate version. Next i went to download for the wifey and it only shows the base game and like two cosmetics? They gate keeping all the preorder stuff to the main person who purchased? Shoot my wife gonna be jealous haha. I'll go to game/manage and see if anything else pops up after i get hers installed i guess.

I would think it should share the cosmetics too, unless there is some fine print. I haven't preordered yet, still deciding if I want to get any of the cosmetics (leaning toward no). I am on PS5 and am planning to play with my wife.

Ok yeah it only showed two cosmetics in the initial download list but once her MH downloads started they all began popping in... dunno if she's missing anything that i got from purchasing or not but she has a ton now. She will be happy.

At this point I’m not watching anything else, I’ve seen enough and want to experience the rest blind for myself.
Same.

I hope Gaijin Hunter does his weapon tutorial videos again. I can honestly say I wouldn't even be playing Monster Hunter if he hadn't made them back in the day. So helpful.

one of these guys, not sure if it's him or another MH creator, has the most obnoxious voice / personality... just insufferable lol. i never watched guide stuff, but i do enjoy general commentary. but i wince clicking on vids hoping it wont be that dude. cant recall if it's gaijin or not.

Gaijin's got kind of a soft spoken voice, but it never struck me as annoying or anything. If anything, he always provides chill videos. I don't really care about that part though, his tutorials are great and really help you learn the ins and outs of a weapon, including all combo branches, motion values, etc.

At first I was gonna go with Bow as my 2nd weapon but I think I’m gonna go with Hammer.

I’m gonna use LS on monsters who do have tail and can be cut while use Hammer on monster who don’t have tails or their tails cannot be cut.

I changed my mind too. I'm gonna go IG main but now I don't know if I'll do Bow or CB as sub. Only problem is that IG always feels shitty early game because they give you SUPER fucking slow bugs until High Rank. Still, I'm going to try a ground-focused IG this time. I liked the moveset from the beta.

Yeah it has sick move sets .

They've really gone too far by taking away the knock down penalty. SuperRad's review says you can now whistle for your mount when you get wrecked, and the sequence renders you invincible with no penalty. Just wow...

For old schoolers/series vets in this thread, Gaijin Hunter put up his review/impressions. Some interesting stuff from the vantage point of someone that's been playing the series for a long time.

thanks for this...

edit: unlike everyone else, the more i hear about all these 'change's, the more interested i'm getting, to my great surprise. i've always loved this series, but up till the last couple days, i'd been thinking i'd had enough, & sorta lost interest. but, suddenly, not so much, it'd seem...

Yeah same, and something he said in this video really helped: the idea that "easy" means room for error, meaning room for experimenting and fun builds.

playing through rise as a bit of prep, also since I barely touched sunbreak, might as well finish up and get back into the hunting vibe.

Ammy best Palamute skin.

This is my biggest concern after hearing some impressions. It's like Wirebug Fall Pro Max™. I don't mind that casual players have an option to get out of trouble, but to make it essentially free/unlimited leaves a sour taste in my mouth. They're never going to learn timing and risk/reward if they can just i-frame out of any bad situation. It should be seen/built as a tool to allow for a learning curve to figuring out when moves are/are not safe.

What this probably means is that they're going to add mount catches (delayed homing moves to capture people using it too liberally). That's fine, but I'd rather it just be a limited usage learning tool.

He also said one could hop on the mount and do unlimited high jumps on monsters which will likely add to spamming that repeatedly for a quicker kill.

I'm also concerned that streamlining the hunts to this extreme might lead to less grinding for endgame gear and lead to running out of content much earlier than previous titles. I sure hope that doesn't happen.

That fuckin' sucks. I admit I don't use MH language much, but I liked having the option. Maybe if we have a big enough bitch fit they'll add it in.
I used wyverian l voices for entirely of my World/Icborne playthrough I was hoping they would do same here.
