Have you heard of that fun rumour where Nintendo will implement a technology for the Switch 2 that assures physical games are bound to the user account they are first associated with, thus making it impossible to sell used games? Man, that one is good.

I read that a few weeks ago( cant recall where). That was the original Xbox One vision IIRC.

And man, if there's truth to that......

An actual physical release of their 8 and 16 bit era Mario games without a subscription but only on "Switch Too"!

Honestly I don't know what the selling point is other than a new Pokemon, Zelda and 3D Mario. I doubt They will have any games completely exclusive to their new console hybrid iteration. They may have to resort to being just another cross-gen platform but with higher framerate and resolution. Do they take the Sony approach and just re-release all their previous gen games with that selling point?

What I fear (and I think Nintendo does too) is another Wii to Wii U situation where there is barely enough there to justify the upgrade to most people, or confusion as to what defines their new generation. They go completely lateral and its not enough, they go completely "next gen" well they will have to prove the reasons why it's a valuable upgrade.

Personally for me, better hardware is enough, as long as it delivers on new exclusive games and enhances the games of the previous gen. Major 3rd party support with CoD and Sports games while maintaining a lower price point (Under $500) could elevate it considerably. They go with a more lateral upgrade, then basically they have to make the first Switch irrelevant and basically force that user base to upgrade if they wish to continue getting new Nintendo games.

Typical, I’ve got to be in work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, so no time to sit on the internet mocking or loving it 😢

I would like to see a variant of this. Put tech on the cart that stores the license. Allow you to transfer the license to the console so you don't need the cart. But also allow the reverse process because you are not a piece of shit company.

I think this is, again, something like what Xbox wanted to do with the One, but they dropped the messaging like an anvil by highlighting the restrictions more the benefits. In retrospect Microsoft may have seen the digital era coming and wanted to get ahead of it, but the console market wasn't ready for it.

Honestly, if there's any truth to this idea that's gonna dull alot of enthusiasm for the next Switch. Like, what happened to the right of first sale? It's like we're perfectly fine with this slow erosion of consumer rights. And Nintendo is infamous for keeping their software high, so they're the absolute worst company right now to curb used sales.

I doubt they want to kill their holiday season especially in Japan.
If they didn't care it would have been already announced.
I guess early 2025 announcement with launch in spring? If it's not delayed.

I still think they need to show it this year if it will be released in March.

Seems like such a weird thing to announce before the holidays. I know they announced the Switch around the same time, but the Wii U was dead. The Switch is actually still selling, but you'd be brain dead to buy one right before the Switch 2 comes out.

It'll be very interesting to see how much is actually revealed, i.e. specs and price.

Not necessarily. When they revealed the Switch around this time back in 2016 the Wii U was dead at retail. There was no fear of cannibalizing its sales. And that was with the 3Ds still on the market.

This time around, their only system on the market is Switch and it's still selling. It doesn't make sense to kill off any sales it can get over the holiday when they have no other hardware out there to sell.

If I were Nintendo I'd drop an OLED lite model. There are always people who may grab another Switch for collector reasons or what have you. I would have bought the recent Zelda lite if they did that.

Well, if they are going to announce it this year it should be very soon as to not interfere with holiday sales. I would expect them to give a heads up, but I suppose it could be announced on monday and presented on tuesday. If it doesn’t happen next week then I doubt it will be this year at all.

And that was with the 3Ds still on the market.
Nintendo’s estimate for the 3DS was also waaaay lower comparatively. They expected to sell ~6M 3DS units by March 2017.

They’re now expecting to sell ~13.5M Switch units by March 2025.

This holiday season will be a lot more important compared to 2016.

Yes exactly. I only bring up the 3ds because it would be remiss to not mention they did have 'something' other the Wii U to sell. They also put the NES classic out to supplement it( albeit extremely supply constrained. I guess they underestimated demand).

This time around, they only have the Switch. Announcing its successor now would kill their 2024 Xmas season.

I'd be shocked if they announce it in November, weeks before Black Friday and during the prime Christmas shopping weeks. Literally makes zero sense.
I said that a while ago, makes no sense to announce it now it would completely kill holiday sales.

I still say the will announce in March for a September release.

I still feel like that's too wide a gap because then that's gonna be half the new fiscal year gone with the market waiting for the successor, which again would crater sales. I would also guess a September- November release date at this point but the official announcement will be 3 months prior to whichever month it ends up being ( so case in point, June announcement for a September launch).

If it's gonna be a March 2025 release the earliest it would make sense to announce it is January, but then you're pissing off the people who just got it for Xmas. Granted, at this point I feel like most people who would want a Switch have one so most people who buy now will do so with knowledge that Switch 2 is inevitable on the near horizon. I personally would buy one, as I said in an earlier post, if they released a OLED lite and I would use it almost exclusively for smaller Indies.

They don't have any big first-party games planned for the end of the year. No bundles announced, nothing.

There's only DQIII left, and it's multi-platform. I understand that there are sales to be made during this period anyway, but there are no big new releases to boost sales anyway...

Still going to shift numbers. Get rid of inventory and then start the hype in say march, late enough so you don't piss of those xmas buyers.

Announce now and you kill your (very) last chance to sell this thing.

Can’t wait to see what Mario will look like on the Switch 2.

I feel bad for those people who will buy a Switch and then be like “wtf I should have waited”.

It's really too empty to stay that way, I still think they need to make an announcement. Those who buy Switch at the end of the year are parents who have no idea about the announcements on twitter/youtube etc.

Anyway, we'll know soon enough. The next release of NTDOY results is scheduled for November 05, 2024. Either they announce something before then, so this coming week, or it will be early next year.

Honestly, i doubt it by this point. Pretty sure be this year, but my bet is that the reveal is whithin 16 days because of Mario and Luigi and Halloween being next week

I'm not sure the people buying them now are the same crowd as the day 1 Switch 2 buyers, so it shouldn't really matter. If anything. an announcement coupled with a Switch price drop might shift more consoles with confirmation of backwards compatibility.

Knowing Nintendo they'll do the safe 'bundle a digital Mario Kart' thing and call it a day. Best way to get a last sales push IMO would be slashing $50 off each unit, bundle it with something like Smash Bros+DLC, or introduce new colors to tempt the collectors. They probably could have done something like keep Echoes of Wisdom with the Zelda themed Switch as their holiday release but they decided to release it a few months ago. Basically they need something to encourage people to drop money ( maybe needlessly) during the period when everyone is in the 'spend money' frame of mind.

Yeah, I don’t see any announcements this year at this juncture. I am thinking January or February announcement for April to June release.

They specifically said before it’s not coming out this fiscal year which ends in March.

To be clear, this is Brazil just speculating. He doesn't actually know when it will be revealed.

The only reasons I can think of are:

1. They want to share some details with investors in their early November briefing
2. Mass manufacturing is about to begin

I could see a simple video that introduce the look, features and a few third party games. Price will probably be saved for next year and they might never talk about specs.
