UK Physical video game sales collapsed in 2024 (35% drop compared to 2023) according to Christopher Dring

The day physical gaming dies is the day i stop gaming altogether. I love collecting games and i love having something to own and put on my shelf. Buying a digital license is the equivalent of buying nothing because you own nothing and can't sell anything. I also love ordering games online and getting a package in the mail just to open it up and see an unwrapped case waiting for me. It gets me excited honestly.
I wouldn't go this far, but there is ZERO reason for me to own a console if discless becomes the only option available. Why wouldn't I just use a PC when cd keys are so much cheaper than the PS or Xbox store? Not to mention I don't have to pay a monthly subscription to play online.

So what you are saying is people are retaining their subscriptions but it is maybe not growing at all and definitely isnt in line with the collapse of Physical and digital sales.
Well I'm not sure what the breakdown is. I think subs could have decreased or increased in members. having an overall market revenue increase of 12% vs an up to 25% price hike for that year doesn't tell you much about how other numbers have increased or decreased. I can only hypothesise that the 15-25% price hike had some impact in market revenue for gaming subs. I can't tell you how that breaks down for the overall market to 12% though in terms of number of subscribers. It's not possible.

Do we know what the digital rate is in the US? I swear every place I go, the games section is a ghost town, for all platforms. It’s like the retailers don’t care anymore. The only place that still seems to care is Target.
